🤬 it! I'm over it! Lol. Wasted 4 hours tonight getting no where. Probably ran at least a dozen 17.7s but could not break my .6 to save my life. Grrrr. Don't know if I'm gonna hop on for the remainder of GTA. Crossing my fingers I'll be safe with my time. Maybe I'll be better at selling some cars this weekend instead.

With so many 17.7s you probably wouldn't miss one. You mind letting me borrow one till after this is over. Lol. I know I can do a .7 or .6 I may keep throwing it away every time I'm up on my ghost. Grrr

I finally broke 17's... 2:17.892

I hope it's enough given weather or not past ppl are ineligible

Crossing fingers

So that's why I moved down another spot. ;)

all good though, I just popped an 885 ... time to start working on the 7xx

Here are the U.S. rules currently as stated on http://www.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/2013/terms/:

There is absolutely no mention of past contestants being ineligible. I can't imagine they would (or legally could) change the rules with only 2 days left.

Its unfortunate that many of us haven't put in much seat time because of the "hearsay" about ineligibility. The rules from the U.S. website seem very simple and straight forward.

I hope to find some seat time before the end.

Good luck fellow GTP'ers!

That is what I was thinking too, seems like changing the rules of eligibility after the fact could give them legal problems. I've had very little free time over the last 3 weeks, and certainly no weekend time at all. I moved a trip that was supposed to be this week (its only $$$ right), and cut a trip short that ended Tuesday so I could make some time for this. Having to put every minute of what little free time I've had over the last 3 weeks to this, I've passed up many things I had planned.

Sadly most of that could have been avoided if they just gave us the end date earlier than a few days before it started. I'm sure many others here have had to change plans to free up time during this also. There was no reason they could not have told us the dates earlier:grumpy:

Needless to say I will be quite displeased with them if all my sacrifices were for nothing.

On this upside I finally managed a decent lap last night (well besides my 1st sector, ugh). It was getting frustrating seeing how much I've improved each section since the time I ran last week, yet I couldn't make use of all my improvement (I bet more than a few of you know what that is like:banghead:). Then luckily it started to come together last night, perhaps it was the whole "not trying to run on little sleep" Apparently sleep is good, who knew :)

Not much time left now till everyone can have there life back, good luck gents!

Glad to see you're making a push Z! Seeing as how we actually may be eligible I'm kicking myself for not putting more time in.

Jumped 20 places today. Man it's great to have a day when I'm not tired from working. :D đź‘Ť

now... everyone stop making it rain 17.5s!

I mean but in the past GT Academys they didnt let Silverstone Finalsts Compete in next years nationals correct? I mean they can do whatever they want or change it even after the fact depending on whos running the show. Id love to run with some of last years runners if so but i doubt they will allow previous contestants to go to finals again

Good luck everyone

For the guys who are hoping to be allowed to compete again this year. It is important to remember this line from the rules.

"All decisions regarding all matters of this Contest are at Sponsor’s sole discretion and are final and binding."

They will not get in any kind of legal trouble for any decisions that they make regarding the competition. They could make us drive red bull flugtag vehicles and rescind the prize if they really wanted to.

Aside from all that, chris, I'd love to get to race with you and the other guys from 2011 :)

From what I remember last year from insiders involved in this for the US, their plan going forward was to make Silverstone participants take a year off before being allowed to compete again. Jason may remember the details of that better.

I guess I'll give it a go tomorrow for Top 31 since I don't know whether I'm eligible or not. Might as well try and get denied than to not try at all. I haven't touched the demo since July 7th...may be too rusty for a late charge but I'll try.

Nope. Mike wanted it that way, doubt they listened to him.

Hello Chris! Nice time mate.

I completely agree that the rules are clearly stated and you as a competitor have reasonably relied on them.

It was in the past GT Academy. There have only been 2 for the United States. You are correct that they didn't let the Silverstone Finalists compete. BUT, that was clearly stated in the rules from the beginning of last year's competition. This year there is no such declaration of ineligibility. Hard to call it a constant pattern when it has only been in the official rules once.

I disagree that the line you quoted gives them carte blanche. Competitors have acted reasonably to spend time on this competition per the official rules stated.

Aside from this bonus drama.. I wish everyone the best of luck. As has been stated, we are in the final push.

The final 24 hours has initiated. Not having to drive tired after work has helped me alot today. Just dipped into the .6s. :)

Regarding the past racecamp finalists... I think if they really want to find the best driver for Nissan, why not just let them do it again. At a certain point, you will have many drivers that are quick, but won't get another chance.

Just have the judges eliminate them if they show little to no improvement at Silverstone. :sly:

I just red lapped two 17.2s:banghead: i might just call it a night and hope my time sticks.

I'm pretty confident you are locked in. With 4 ineligible drivers (2 Canadiens and 2 youngsters) ahead of you ... You are at worst in 11th place. Good luck at the finals!

Plus, I'm not certain that I will attend the finals, even if I'm eligible ... You could be in 10th!

You really should go to the finals

You really should go to the finals

I will make up my mind in about a week. Family comes first ... this is certainly a fun dream, but I have to be realistic and just think of it as a memorable life experience and nothing more.

I'm an old dude with a great family and job. Racing in Europe for $0 isn't really an option for me. Like I said, I'll continue to think of GTA as a memorable life experience.

Great job, Tim! I just knocked my time down to a .605 and that was with junk tires. :)

That cutline, though, just moved a bunch. Might want to get back onto the saddle, both of us. :scared:

I'll probably give it another go tomorrow just to be sure. I didn't have any PB sectors on my 17.7 so there's more to gain if I need it. Though I'm happy with my effort no matter what. I've already achieved all the goals I set for myself, so no regrets no matter what goes down in the next 21 hours.

I'm pretty sure the cut line is in the 40's though. I'll be shocked if they take previous Silverstars. Basically for the same reason they exclude people with racing licenses etc... Going to race camp once gives you a hugely unfair advantage being a "veteran" the second time around. Plus it's also bad for the show if you have people that have an idea what to expect.

But seriously guys... they have the right to change the rules any time they want during the contest period. That's how contests always work. We probably agree'd to it in that long EULA we had to accept before running the time trial. I would re-read that before I went by anything on the website. The website information is pretty suspect since they mention the 8-5 stuff from last year. It's an obvious copy/past job.

If you guys want to get to know some of the GTA guys a bit better, here's a special podcast I recorded with three guests:
Dr_Watson (PURE_DrWatson)
iamsupernasty (GTP_iamsupernast)
outlaw4rc

A nice long listen if you have time to kill, interesting discussion covering pretty much everything to do with this year's competition. If you give it a listen please feel encouraged and welcome to post some feedback here and if you like what you hear there's plenty more in the regular podcast I host every week (link in my signature)

Here they are hosted on Soundcloud and Google Docs -

Point is it should be up front and available to anyone right now. Its not. My inside source is telling me to go for it and that they could have a PR mess on their hands if they dont fix it. I agree with him 100%.

As stated earlier, I'd love to see previous competitors back :) Legally, they can do whatever they like, but I'm in no way saying that you guys should stop goin for it :) Nice time Rees :)

Try "drifting" or a 4 wheel powerslide on turns. I am at a 2 21.3 because of that. A few days ago I was at a 2 23 driving smooth. (you still have the better time but I'm saying this because it is a quick way to improve.)
