outlaw4rc uses an old beat up DF Pro and I have a Fanatec GT3.
There's probably also a lot of G25's, T500's, and DFGTs out there. Doodle and Harrison are also up there with the dual shock controller.

Equipment doesn't matter. Very few people have expensive setups and "proper" cockpits. And actually come to think of it the fastest people are usually using the most ghetto setups.
True but a wheel that won't slide or come off every other lap and with a paddle shifter that will go from 2nd to 3rd rather than 4th would be nice. :)

So, with what we know so far, which spot is the minimum cutoff? I want to say it's 40th.

Yeah, up until very recently my wheel-stand was a pair of bar stools with a sheet of 1/4" lexan pony-clipped between them.

And GTA has put so much stress on the old GT3 that yesterday I started losing my downshift switch (I'll have to solder on a new one for the weekend push, now that I've plummeted down the table to a dismal 41 :ouch: ). I ran a 1:17.988 where going into village it went from 5th to 1st in one pull. So to get proper downshifts without double-triple-quadruple dumps I have to be very careful with the paddle. Pulling it in and back out.

ahhh.... the joys of grinding time trials. :grumpy:

:grumpy: I literally turned an inch too early at becketts, i was surprised to see it being invalidated. Finished the lap anyway, 2:17.580 :ouch:

That would have been .300 faster than my fastest lap.

I might as well ask others for their opinion anyway. When you guys sit in your rigs are you guys laying down almost like in a car? Or sitting up like in a truck?

Keep pushing bro! That proves you can do it. Got 48 hours to nail it :)

:ouch:
Is anyone here who runs 2:17-2:18's using a wheel other than the G27? I am using a DFGT and wonder if I am just wasting my time trying to get it to work!
:ouch:

Im using a dfgt and have a 17.840 but havent ran a lap since last weekend, since I know I wont be able to go this year even if I qualify. But dont see there being a problem running a good lap with dfgt.

So after being stuck on an 18.1 and taking almost a week off. I decided to give it a go. I was in the zone on route to a 17.7 at the slowest and the back end started coming around approaching the final straight... lost all my time..

Either way its no biggie. I am still not fully adapted to the wheel, and have a bit to learn about trail braking and just overall weight transfer and car control. I kind of decided to opt out of this years academy because my physical fitness isn't what it should be, and I would hate to be booted for losing a foot race or something stupid. Also, my consistency with other cars on the track isn't up to par yet with all the recent changes, so in case they decide to change the rules and disallow all finalists, I would hate to waste my chance because I was unprepared.

Good luck to everyone, and Outlaw I have a feeling I will be seeing you on TV.

PS. Thank god I live in America. I would be SOL anywhere else.

Hey man, IMO if you have the pace which it seems you do, I'd go for it and work my ass off the next few weeks. I am also not in very good shape at all but plan on killing myself getting back into shape if I do make it. It's basically a once in a lifetime opportunity, who knows where you will be or where GT Academy will be by next year, it may be non existent. Strike while the iron is hot my friend :)

I don't want to waste the chance. Besides, Next year there will be another 16 of you out of contention.
I think wardez had indirect confirmation of future GT academy competitions.

p58+ will be the bubble spot or something next year haha

Starting to wonder what the actual bubble spot will be. Wish there was some way to know for certain. Seems there's more people than we know of not going or not eligible. They should really have a leader board that has just the people eligible because you never can tell if you're safe otherwise. I know I'm going to keep pushing till I'm in the mid 17s at least. Copse killed one for me last night that was going to be a 17.5 or 6.

Give or take 1 or 2 spots, bubble I'm pretty sure is p45 right now, 2:17:958. GL!

To the best of my knowledge you're 29th/30th depending on if you want to count kingbestjr.

The rules don't say anything about me not being allowed at the moment. If Sony is "saying" that's the case, they need to get off their ass and update the written rules.

1.3.k looks like we're not eligible.
and 1.5 looks like they're saying anyone who goes to national finals may be ineligible too.

And sorry for the double post, but they're two sorta unrelated topics and its a pain to edit it back in with a new quote.

Looks like they finally updated the rules! It also says that the top 32 this year will be banned from all future competititons.

Thanks. Been dreading the end of this week coming but right now I wish it was that time. LOL. Guess it's back to the grind. GL to everyone (except those behind me)

So then it looks as if you can't advance if you don't make it this year to next years finals. But I take it us who didn't make it to Silverstone last year can still make it this year then? Considering it only says future finalists can't make it and not past finalists.

Thats only in UK rules though

^ Since the rules aren't updated are you considering a session this weekend?

Yes. No confidence in getting anything under .18.0xx though. Time trialing just isn't my strong point lately.

Me either. I've never been a time trialer; better at racing.

I may hop on, but I don't see any chance to sniff a 17. I'm too rusty.

Here are the U.S. rules currently as stated on http://www.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/2013/terms/:

Contest Dates.
The Contest begins on July 2, 2013 8:00 PM EST and ends on July 28, 2013, 10:59PM EST. Please note, due to technical and logistical factors, Sponsor reserves the right to change Contest, and Contest registration, start and end dates and times. See www.us.gran-turismo.com for updated Contest dates. Any change in start or end dates from the Official Rules will be posted at www.us.gran-turismo.com, and an email will be sent to the registered contestants.
Contest Registration.
Contest registration begins on July 2, 2013 8:00PM and ends on July 28, 2013 10:59 PM EST. Each contestant must provide required contact information upon registering to participate in this Contest. Failure to provide complete and accurate information may result in disqualification of entry in Sponsor’s sole discretion. To register, Contestants must download the GT Academy 2013 demo. Contestants will be required to update their SEN account information with accurate name, age, home address, phone number and an e-mail address so that Sponsor can notify them of their standings. Contest entry requirements will be verified by an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release, to be completed by contestants before the Prize is awarded. Contestants may only register once. If a contestant registers more than once, Sponsor may disqualify some or all of that contestant’s entries.
Contest Race.
To enter, download the GT Academy 2013 demo from PlayStation Store, log into your SEN account, and complete the first four (4) driving skills tests. Once you complete the four driving skills tests, Contestants may begin posting times in the Online Qualifier Time Trial 5. All contestants will compete using the same vehicles and tracks, which will be announced at the start of race. A contestant’s result is determined by their fastest race time for Online Qualifier Time Trial 5. Once a contestant completes the time trial, the contestant’s fastest race time will be posted to the Contest leaderboard. Contestants may race as often as they like. If a contestant betters his or her previous fastest race time in one of the Round 8, Event 5 Time Trial Events, the new race time for that event will be uploaded and reflected on the Contest leaderboard. It may take up to two hours for leaderboards to update or refresh. Leaderboards can be viewed from within the game and at www.us.gran-turismo.com.
The 32 contestants with the fastest race time from Round 8, Event 5 will be deemed the Prize winners. In the event of a tie, the contestant who achieves the fastest race time in the fewest attempts will be deemed to have the higher score.
If Sponsor cannot verify a Round 8, Event 5 winning contestant’s age, residency, or other factors deemed essential by Sponsor for participation in the National Finals, or if a Round 8, Event 5 winning contestant is not available to attend the National Finals, Sponsor may select an alternate contestant beginning with the contestant with the next fastest race time from the leaderboard.
Prizes.
The 31 contestants with the fastest race time at the end of the Online Qualifier Time Trial 5 will win a prize package to the GT Academy National Finals (the “National Finals”) that will take place on or around August 24-25, 2013. The prize package (the “Prize”) includes one roundtrip airfare to the National Finals, hotel accommodations for two nights, ground transportation to and from the airport and the National Finals, and a chance to race and compete at GT Academy (Approximate retail value (“ARV”) of each Prize is $3000.00. Total ARV of all 32 Prizes is $96,000.00). At the National Finals, the contestants (along with one additional contestant who qualified for the National Finals through a different competition) will compete and race for one of 16 spots to compete in GT Academy, which will take place at Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom, where the contestant will attend GT Academy Boot Camp and compete for the ultimate prize of becoming a professional race car driver. Separate contest rules apply to each of the National Finals and GT Academy. A contestant will forfeit their Prize if that contestant is unable to travel during the designated time period, if that contestant does not return the required Affidavit of Eligibility and Release within the required timeframe that verifies age and state of residency, and or if that contestant fails to comply in any other manner with these Contest rules, at Sponsor’s sole discretion. A major credit card may be necessary for hotel check in and for any incidental charges that are billed to the room. No refund or compensation will be made in the event of the cancellation or delay of any flight. Travel and accommodations are subject to availability. All expenses and incidental travel costs not expressly stated in the package description above, including other ground transportation, meals, incidentals, passenger tariffs or duties, surcharges, airport fees, service charges or facility charges, personal charges at lodging, security fees, taxes or other expenses are contestants’ sole responsibility. If Sponsor determines that air travel is not required due to a contestant’s proximity to prize location, ground transportation will be substituted for roundtrip air travel at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
Winners.
Winners will be selected from the contestants that achieve the fastest race times during Round 8, Event 5 as recorded by the game software. A contestant cannot post new times to event leaderboards until the contestant beats his or her previous fastest race time as recorded by the game software. Race times are ranked in order of fastest to slowest. In the event of a tie, the contestant with the fastest race time in the fewest attempts will be deemed the winner. All decisions regarding all matters of this Contest are at Sponsor’s sole discretion and are final and binding. Sponsor is not responsible for technical, hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions that may limit a contestant’s ability to participate in or win the Contest. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify, cancel or suspend this Contest should disruptions, interruptions, hardware or software malfunctions, data loss or corruption, a virus, bugs or any other cause beyond Sponsor’s control compromise or corrupt the administration, security or proper play of this Contest.
Eligibility and Release.
Contest open to legal U.S. residents who are 18 years of age or older as of July 2, 2013. Unsportsmanlike conduct, disrespectful or inappropriate actions directed at Sponsor or its employees or other contestants, or other behavior deemed at the sole discretion of Sponsor to be harmful to or inconsistent with the positive image or reputation of Sponsor may result in disqualification from the Contest in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Winning contestants must execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release within seven days of receipt and must meet eligibility requirements as described in Addendum A attached. Return of any prize or prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification, and an alternate winner will be selected. Failure to return Affidavit of Eligibility and Release within seven days of receipt may result in Prize forfeiture. Winning contestants may be required to sign an image release acceptable to Sponsor in order to claim any Prize. Any contestant who does not meet the requirements of these Contest rules may forfeit Prizes or be disqualified from the Contest in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Neither Sponsor nor their affiliates, subsidiaries, division or related companies are responsible for any damages, taxes, or expenses that winners might incur as a result of this Contest or receipt of a Prize or any portion of a Prize.

There is absolutely no mention of past contestants being ineligible. I can't imagine they would (or legally could) change the rules with only 2 days left.

Its unfortunate that many of us haven't put in much seat time because of the "hearsay" about ineligibility. The rules from the U.S. website seem very simple and straight forward.

I hope to find some seat time before the end.

Good luck fellow GTP'ers!

Well I guess I'll say hello and introduce myself. I'm new at this, been following this thread since it started and I must say this GT Academy is frustrating stuff!

I decided I'd try my hand at it this summer, borrowed a Playstation from a friend, bought a wheel (came in the mail July 2nd) and started playing. Long story short I'm stuck at a 2:18.2 and have been for a week, which is only good for 75th at the moment. Super annoyed because I decided I would quit when I got into the 17's and I can't seem to find the time! Well not all in one lap... looking like 17's aren't good enough anymore though so I guess I'm SOL either way, haha.

Anyway, good luck to all you superfast people, I think I need to get some more practice before I can compete with you. Probably would get owned at nationals at my current level anyway if I was to miraculously drop a half second...

Oregonians: If there is ever a thread made about an Oregon meet up I'd like to know, might have some interesting opportunities to share... see below ;)

🤬 it! I'm over it! Lol. Wasted 4 hours tonight getting no where. Probably ran at least a dozen 17.7s but could not break my .6 to save my life. Grrrr. Don't know if I'm gonna hop on for the remainder of GTA. Crossing my fingers I'll be safe with my time. Maybe I'll be better at selling some cars this weekend instead.

Im under the same circumstance as last year, i had to go away the last few days of competition. Difference is last year i nailed a top 10 time, this year im sitting in 18th or so just hoping my time will hold. Im pretty sure it wont, or itll be somewhere towards the bottom at the end of the weekend. Either way, im interested to see how this weekend pans out, and where the cutoff ultimately lands up!

Well, I tried my best at trying to get a lower time from 2:20.405 and now in the 600 ranks. I tried very hard yesterday and I couldn't get my time any lower :banghead:. So until later on the final hours, I'll probably call it quits until next year.

But I'll be rooting for the fast guys as always. Go get them guys! :D:tup:
