Don't think its a massive surprise about Gerrard, will be a shame to see him good as he has been a top class player, and that's coming from a United fan!

Ched Evans can't work abroad, scuppering his chance to sign for Hibernians (the Maltese club). Instead, he's heading to Oldham.

Interesting.

So United just beat Yeovil 0-2 in the third round of the cup, it was very far from a vintage performance and it was o0-0 at HT, Van Gaal named a strong team to start too with Rooney and Falcao starting, it was all really sloppy in the first half but thing improved in the second with goals from Herrera and Di Maria who came off the bench..

Big night in La Liga last night, Real Madrid's winning streak is over as they lost 2-1 away to Valencia, they had 22 wins in a row, also Barcelona lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad managed by David Moyes!

Talks between Ched Evans and Oldham are still ongoing, Sponsers have threated to pull out of the club if he is signed and online petition against him signing stands at 22,000

Man City are said to be in advanced talks with Swansea over a transfer for Wilfried Bony who has been linked with the club for a little while, as a swans fan I do have mixed feelings about this, it'll obviously be disappointing to see one of our star players go but we will get £20 million plus for him and we have an able replacement in Gomis...

...should this transfer go through it'll be the first major deal in a flat January window so far..

He did have a £19 million release clause on his old contract but he signed a new one in November with an increased £25 mill clause...

I'd rather Swansea sold Neil Taylor for a massive price because Wrexham are due 10% of anything over £150,000.

SSN are mentioning a fee of 30 million. At the start of the season @neljack stupidly said he wasn't worth 20.

Don't remember saying it but I'll take your word.

With his form, right now, I'd say 20-25m as a maximum. Spose about right if Lukaku was 28m.

Still don't get why City would want him. Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic along with all the other attacking players they have

Interesting.
Apparently they've signed him. Ridiculous.

On their own heads be it.

Oldham were in, then they were out, now they are back in for him. With 22,000 signatures against it. Expect both sides to be in full voice next time he plays. Amongst the boos there will certainly be a few morons singing "He does what he wants, he does what he waaaants" or something similar.

Interestingly Oldham Athletic have form for signing gaolbirds. They were Lee Hughes' first club after his release on a death by dangerous driving sentence

Edit: Also mildly interesting is this article on the Beeb where each of the bottom 48 league clubs were asked about whether they would sign him. Eleven of them publicly said they would not, Oldham said they were in negotiations and the other 36 clubs offered diplomatic or no comment.

LA Galaxy confirm that they have signed Steven Gerrard and he will join in July, Liverpool have blown it big time here I think, should have kept him for another year...

Valdes is close to joining Man United on a two year deal, he is a free agent and has been training with the club the last three months..

@Famine

One Journo's Twitter
Press box for Oldham v Doncaster now full. The League One mid-table Roses clash has clearly captured the imagination.

The Dickov Derby will be secondary to the interviews.

It was death threats.

Show the club that condoning rape is wrong by killing them. :censored:ing stupid.

Okay, that is out of order and I need to read more thoroughly. You're right, it's bloody stupid indeed. There doesn't seem to be an end to this case any time soon.

Its going to be like this every time someone tries to sign him now, he gets linked to a club, club confirm they are interested, a backlash ensues with petitions and sponsors threatening to pull out, going to happen every time now...

People threatening to rape and kill others not involved in the deal is both horrific and almost laughable..

You have to be some sort of person to follow this logic.

"I love Oldham Athletic so much I will rape the director's daughter to prove a point and not sign a rapist."

???

Victor Valdes has joined Man United on a 18 month deal with an option for a further year

Evans has released a statement saying 'mob rule' was to blame for him not joining Oldham, He also released a statement earlier today apologising for his actions and apologising to the victim concerned, but still protests his innocence like he has done since the incident...

Rather unpopular opinion coming up. I think Ched Evans should be able to play again. He's committed a crime, done his time in prison for it and is now free to live his life. The crime that was committed shouldn't be a factor really. I don't agree with what he did and he probably should have spent longer in jail but hey, I don't have any qualifications in law.

Going back to transfers, Valdes has signed for United on an 18 month contract with the option to extend for another year at the end of that. I think he's a good signing as a back up 'keeper because Lindegaard isn't really a viable option if De Gea gets an injury.

I think Ched Evans should be able to play again.

No-one here has said any different. Just "not for my team." No law should prevent him playing again but it is down to the clubs and fans of those clubs to let it be known that they do not tolerate this sort of behaviour by actually signing him.

Hypothetical, absurd, or not, I don't want Wrexham to sign Lee Hughes. I don't want Wrexham to sign Luke McCormick. I don't want Wrexham to sign Luis Suarez. I don't want Wrexham to sign Ched Evans.

Yeah that seems fair enough. The general voice of the public is more what I was referencing though (all the petitions).

Indeed. In cases like this it always comes around full circle and both the "He does what he waaaaaants" crowd and the "I would rape/kill to prove a point" crowd look absolutely disgusting.

Yeah, fortunately, the people that sing those chants are usually in the minority and usually get banned from going to football matches.

I agree with you. The amount of programs the country runs to try and get prisoners back into work after being released and these people are doing everything they can to stop him working. So what if his trade is a footballer. If he was an plumber and someone hiring him to unblock their toilet would that guys daughter get rape threats. It's ridiculous. He went to jail, did his time, give him another chance.

Does your plumber sell shirts with his name on the back and get celebrated by 20,000 people a week?

Footballers are public figures. Their names are brands and these brands are used as promotional tools. Football clubs make lots of money out of selling the brands they own for public consumption, both on the pitch and off it - ticket sales corresponding to performance, shirt sales and public appearances for charities, schools and community projects. They are the public face of the football club.

Evans's brand is badly broken, not just by the fact he's a convicted rapist but because, as a convicted rapist, he's shown no signs of acknowledging his crime or showing any remorse for it. If you're happy for him to pull on a shirt with your team's badge on it and cheer him on when he scores, is given man of the match or does a TV interview then that's your prerogative - but tens of thousands of supporters, sponsors and patrons of the two English clubs who've tried to sign him so far have said they aren't.

It's nothing to do with preventing him from working, but preventing him from representing the football club you hold dear because he is an unrepentant convicted sex offender who is on the sex offenders' register and is not allowed to be left alone with anyone under 18. In either case, he shouldn't be allowed to represent his country again.

Point of correction - he hasn't done his time. He's out on licence.

Okay. First, PFA chairman Gordon Taylor compares this to the Hillsborough disaster.

Gordon Taylor
He wouldn't have been the first person to be found guilty, maintained their innocence and been proved right. We know what happened with Hillsborough.

He later apologised. But now, it is being reported that the FA is considering changing its rules. FA Chairman Greg Dyke said that "new FA guidelines and rules of conduct" could be introduced. Not sure how I'd feel about that; the FA, a governing sports body, is a for-profit private entity and has every right to include laws on who is allowed to play in their little club. As with the Suarez case when he was banned from "all footballing activity" that was what FIFA said. That couldn't stop him, or anyone else, conducting non-FIFA footballing activities or hypothetically establishing a new body.

Hmm. I'm rambling. As has been generally accepted, Ched Evans has every right to carry on playing football but most fans would say "but I wouldn't want my club signing him". As Famine says, it's about preventing him from representing the club you hold dear. If this forces him to find a new trade because no-one will sign him, then so be it. But I highly suspect Evans will just have to keep his head down and sign for a club much further down the football pyramid.
