Hi after the effort I put in... you dont even list me..

You have to post your time in the thread so that I can add it to the leaderboard. Occasionally I may add/update a time automatically, but to do so with every single GTPlanet member would be far too much hassle.

I'm too tired to update the leaderboard right now; I'll do it tomorrow as soon as I can.

I'm in a similar position to you, I've not (currently) got the resources to gain enough real life driving experience. Hell, I went karting for only like the second time yesterday, I beat a guy who's a regular at the track and my mates by a second a lap and it was my first time there, so I must have some natural ability.
Funny because last year, I went karting for the second time with two people that went with me to Finals. I was consistent but two seconds a lap slower. Natural talent unlikely.

I went last year because that was my first time making the cut and it was in a city I've never seen before. Where I stand now, my odds aren't any better. Decision's an easy one to make for my case.

Fair play to you sir, as I said I feared I was clutching at straws. I will try again tomorrow knowing a g27 is capable of much more. I fully suspect I'll be pulling my hair out again! How much faster do you reckon you can go?

Maybe a high .5xx or low 6xx, that would be if I can hook my best sectors up, the amount of laps I've blown going into the bus stop is infuriating. My aim is just to improve everyday, even if it is by a small margin 👍

I went to nationals last year as well, just for the experience because I qualified outside top 16 so it was a nice surprise. I think the people you were racing against were of a higher standard that my mates, so hard to compare haha. I think we must all have some ability otherwise we wouldn't be qualifying. Though virtual and reality are obviously totally different.. I'm going to try and do it either way, so should you:tup:

The fact is, nobody who qualified with a controller has ever made it to silverstone. You will never make it through the national finals if you are not fast enough on a wheel. They don't use controllers in New York City. If you honestly want to go to silverstone, you need a wheel and you need to be rediculously fast with it. The racing in NYC is intense. If you insist on pushing with a ds3, just know that National finals should be your ultimate goal because beyond that is not feasible.

You have stated this before and very true. Although, any thing is possible, the reality is that you can't just jump on a wheel and expect to be able to do what you can do on a DS3. It will take time. In some areas almost learning all over again.

In my case, I have had my wheel since round 2. I am getting better and better w/ practice here and there, but I am seriously still struggling on hairpins (working w/ the degrees and FFB). I had more confidence w/ the DS3, because I was use to it. So I could be more aggressive. With the wheel, especially w/ the Finals, I feel like I'm just holding on. Was able to get aggressive in Rnd 3, as time went on, had a blast. Over all, well worth the cost. makes GT much more enjoyable.

I would think too that it would be a fair deal to give choice for the contestants. The wheel or standard DS3. After all the DS3 is what comes w/ the PS3. A wheel is a mod job

...or, let me get bashed on this  make everyone in GT Academy use a DS3. Like I said, it's the standard issue. Ok, ok forget it, I had too much fun w/ the wheel in 3. But it is a serious over all disadvantage to non wheel owners.

I have been wanting one of the fastest wheel users to do this and you have confirmed it's validity. Eau rouge and the last left hand corner before the last chicane where wheel users can take flat out, DS3 users can't. It's really not fair to DS3 users. Like I said in the main news article everyone deserves a fair shot at going to the finals and silverstone. They should take the top 16 wheel users and the top 16 DS3 users to the finals. Top 8 wheel and top 8 DS3 users advance to silverstone, simple. Just because your on a DS3 doesn't mean you don't have potential in a real car, and just because your fast on a wheel doesn't mean your going to be fast in a real car. But this just proves that DS3 don't stand a chance and I bet even Ayrton Senna himself wouldn't approve. He would want everybody to have a fair shot.
Im not trying to start anything, but if one was wanting to make it to the finals where they use wheels, wouldnt one want to have already been using a wheel? I can only imagine the intensity at finals, that plus using a wheel when used to a ds3? F that!

There is already a gulf between virtual and reality, why would you want to exacerbate that by specifically selecting a number of DS3 players. I'm not saying don't let DS3 players go to nationals, but choosing them separately is nonsensical.

EDIT: The Facebook game is also ridiculous IMO.

I'm surprised someone / everyone hasn't just set up a "macro" and record a perfect game on facebook.

Typical James. :P Great lap!

Finally saw mostly blue numbers and made small gains tonight. Glad I didn't decide to chuck everything out in the front yard. The first thing I had to do was NOT get hung up and frustrated over the hairpin at start. I realized it was eating me up after I posted about it earlier. I thought, " just take what you get and make some laps!" My next two laps were gains

that's how i usually improve! Mental strength is a key for fast laps, and with that comes consistency and faster lap time! I should take a leaf out of my own book and do the same thing and not get so frustrated! Thing is sometimes i might do a 36.8xx first sector and i get excited then blow it at Les Combes by going in too deep and turn in too late which blows up the left hander! Arrrggghhh lol

...Great challenge in that respect :)!

Tidgney -- thanks for your efforts and for sharing your knowledge. Mighty decent of you and you're a smart dude. I watched your GT5 Academy videos and they've been a great help, especially the drill on running consistent laps (5 laps within 5 tenths, any track, any car). I didn't have a clue how to improve before this but now I have something that's giving me some solid feedback. This has vastly increased my enjoyment of the game as well as my appreciation for the skill you and the other aliens have acquired.

Anyway, I beat my fastest time today by 7/10ths precisely because I spent yesterday focusing on running consistent laps to learn where I was gaining and losing time. Thanks again.

2:19.331 and aspiring to 2:18.anything.

I finally golded it, but i seem not to get any faster then 2:20. I'm using a G25... You guys take eau rouge at full throttle?

Atm sat on 2.15.639 22nd uk how many go to finals 28 or 14? And how many of the top guys not allowed to finals?

Gold! Finally.:D Personal best 2:20:710. I can probably manage to shave half a second off but I'm happy with what I got. I don't know how to squeeze out an extra 4-5 seconds so good luck to all of you who are competing for the top times.

Well, after a 190 lap stint today, (1300 miles total) it was a complete disaster. :banghead: I mean absolutely awful. It was as if someone had put ice on the track, grip was minimal to say the least. It was as if the physics for this had totally changed. I couldn't even come close to my ghost. I just don't know, at this point, I'm at a complete loss. Last night when I quit, I was gaining time in certain sectors and making headway, now tonight is a complete opposite. All my settings are the same, nothing has changed, but the car feels absolutely awful tonight. Anyways, that's it for me tonight, I can't take anymore frustrations. Hopefully tomorrow brings better things.

Damn we ds3 users are at such a disadvantage :indiff: Well i just got a 2.16.816 and it took a lot of tries. one of the main problems using a ds3 is being able to maintain consistency. With a good lap I can get a mid to early 2.16s but getting a good lap is going to take forever .

If Nissan and Sony are trying to extract the best wheel users because that's what the real deal is all about, I kind of understand...but it is kind of annoying for us DS3'ers!

Meanwhile, I'm down to 2'19.278. I can run mid to high 2'19's pretty much all day now and I had one dirty 2'18 so hopefully I can whittle my time down now that I feel confident with car and track 👍

I also analysed my lap vs. IMMORTAL and I noticed that I only lost 0.5 from the bottom of Eau Rouge to T1 and 0.5 from the penultimate corner to the bus stop. They appear to be the two main places I could never catch up as a DS3'er...all the rest is just my lack of skill :dunce:

If you don't get gold, can you get the car a different way? Because I don't know whether or not to waste my time on this (I have a DS3 and stand no chance and will just bring myself to tears)

Had a decent shot at this last night after a couple of short stints earlier in the week and figured out how to take Eau Rouge at full throttle! Manged to get down to a 2'16.546 last night, which knocked about a second off my previous best! Good for 78th in UK at the time. Pretty pleased with that espeacially since I was behind my ghost up untill Campus so I know I can improve on that!

Do you calibrate pedals when going into event by pressing full brake and full throttle?

No Ti-Tech v Immortal battle :( Damn shame.
@ionstriker This combo is proof that a wheel is faster than DS3. I'm beginning to think they did it purposesly so they didn't have to select DS3 players.
Great time btw 👍
May not be a battle all the way through but I remember Ti-Tech85 showing up right near the end of a month long TT and coming out on top. Not over yet and good few super fast drivers still missing. Hopefully leaderboards still work for Germans after first week is over too.
