"Well, looks like I owe some of you an apology. Earlier I said this event was an easy Gold without taking into consideration my DS3 friends. I sincerely apologize for not taking into consideration the difficulty level of this event with the DS3 when I made my initial statement. I guess I just took it for granted that if I could do it, with a wheel, others could do it also. I was not thinking it was going to be this hard for the DS3 users. Again, I apologize for my earlier statements and can greatly sympathize with you all trying this with a DS3. The only real advice I can give at this point is to just relax and take your time, you have two weeks to get this done. When you start to feel yourself get to the point of real frustration, take a break for awhile and just clear your head and come back to it a bit later. Keep at it and don't give up, if at first you don't succeed, there is always tomorrow. Good luck you guys, I'm pulling for you and know you can do it, your perseverance will pay off eventually, trust me." ;)

2:16:585
Still room for slight improvements. 2:15:xx should be possible.
Any Tips for the double lefthander? It's hit or miss can not find a braking point on this one.

Get on the curb on the right(the one before the turn, it helps with turn in), tap the brakes, turn in and floor it.

Edit: He's not talking about Eau Rouge Matheus

I spent over an hour just to complete a lap around the track thanks to the absolutely stupid and useless cones that prohibit normal apexing, the photo below is an example:
image.jpg

(I came in sliding and the front wheel tipped the cone while the OTHER TWO WHEELS WERE ON THE TRACK, no reason for the cones, no need to invalidate laps for hitting a barrier (remember Bathurst?), no need to invalidate laps when people have two wheels on the track, just penalize people who have 3 or more wheels off like in real racing. I don't understand why PD thinks time trials should have the same rules as Japanese drift trials).

After an hour, I finally completed a lap. And I got gold the first time! A 2:20:539 on a controller. Not that impressive compared to the 2:14s though .

Up to 5th in the US with a 2:15.730 and that's with few corners where I can shave off even more time.

I know it's way early to make a prediction but with all the people that are already ineligible/not going on the list, I'd say a 15.5 will get you in or if going by ranking, 50th.

Anyone notice that in the scrolling text at the bottom of the GT6 My Home menu it says "Round 4 events of GT Academy 2104 are now available!"?

Wow... now that's a motivational speech right there... You know what, I'm done... for tonight at least. I'm gonna get some rest, wake up early and try again.

Good luck to you brother. Me and the fellow DS3 users are routing for you! Get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast, and go at it! You can do it.
While I was doing the event, I was listening to the Japanese intro of Sonic CD, as the song is called "You Can Do Anything (Toot toot Sonic warrior!)" It's quite motivational if you ask me.
Damn my inner Sonic fanboy...

Do you have pictures?
Gimme a second to snap a pic. Gotta wait for the damn text to scroll. Will edit this post when I get a pic.
Edit: Realised the typo was also in the Notifications section of GT6 My Home

Didn't realize the event took place 100 years into the future. :scared:
Edit x2: My math sucks. 2104 is 90 years ahead of 2014. :ouch::lol:

90 years, but yes. Cars will be even easier to drive then.

...

On a serious note, I actually enjoyed it today. Going at it tomorrow again and all day Wednesday should be fun.

Since I'm not going to Finals anyways, here's a few notes I've collected in my head:

La Source: Best if you can drift the car to point it in the right direction. Jamming it into 1st helps a bit if you're terrible with trailbraking or using the handbrake.

Eau Rouge: It's all about setting the car for the corner. Use every bit of curbing on the left so that you use minimal wheel on the uphill. If you breathe the throttle going in (go at 80~90%), you'll have a bit more stability. The small time loss at the bottom is worth roaring through the exit with tons of momentum because you avoided scrubbing the tires mid-corner. I have actually made it through at full throttle once or twice without losing much speed but it's incredibly risky and you'll only gain maybe a tenth at most. Seeing 144 mph when you touch the right curbing at exit's a good sign.

Les Combes - Don't be a caveman with the gas. Use moderate input through the first two bends. The final right's a pain because it requires having the car under control and turning in at the right time. Too late and you'll understeer wide and too early and you hit the cone. Time the upshift to your advantage.

Bruxelles - Shove it in and try to get the rear a little loose for great rotation. I doubt this is the fastest way but I'll need time to experiment.

Turn 11 - A hated corner of mine because of gear placement and figuring out a good entry point. Pretty much a How close can I get to the cone without hitting it exercise where you want to go full throttle ASAP without having to lift at all. If you're still fighting the wheel when you touch the curbs, they will spin you.

Pouhon - Another corner I need to test. I use one of the braking markers and then turn into the apex off-throttle. The moment I see daylight, 100% gas.

Fagnes/Campus - I had better results hugging the right hander all I can and then try to induce oversteer while on 3rd to tackle the subsequent left. Upshift and then nail it.

Stavelot - Tricky one since the curbs on the exit can upset the car or even spin you if you're not in complete control. I tend to delay my turn in to avoid that drama.

Paul Frere (corner immediately after Stavelot) - I always dip the throttle (go from full to 90% and back to full) right before turn-in to avoid any potential understeer. Works like a charm and I do it so fast, time loss is all but nothing.

Blanchimont - Same as Paul Frere

Chicane - I'd tell you except I hate these abominations and I always get them wrong.

We all know if you hit a cone it automatically starts you over, but let's say you go off and invalidate your lap, do you start over or do you keep driving and finish the invalidated lap? Whenever I invalidate my lap I start over right there and don't waste time driving a lap that's not going to count. Just wondering if I'm doing it wrong or do you get better results by keep doing lap after lap to develop a rhythm.

Last year, I went with 2-4 lap sessions and in most cases, my fastest lap was often the last one. Everyone's different, though. Some are just freaks of nature and can bust out insane times cold, a big advantage for GTA.

I actually hate the forced restart from cone hits. I'd rather just have an invalid lap, and keep going around. I like to get good at the whole track at once and get into rhythm. Also, I'd rather know roughly what time I would have gotten for the invalidated lap, which I can then correct in my head and give myself an idea whether I'm on the right track (ha!) or not.

I'm aware that there's the problem of people clearing out the cones on one lap and then abusing track limits if there wasn't an auto restart, but that wouldn't be a problem either if the invalidation was triggered by car position instead of impact.

Happy to have given this a good 30 min tonight, was able to get a 1:15.710. I feel like i can get another second off that with time, but as for now sitting P1 in Canada and P5 for USA :D

Also i am of age and will be going for the top 4

I sure hope your mean a 2:15.710 or there are going to be some accusations made of cheating :D

Nice job man, I know what ya meant - that's a good time!

Currently holding 6th in Canada.

@Johnnypenso, you know you want to best me.

Does anyone know which of the top 10 Canadians are eligible?

-MrMelancholy15 / ITCC_Andrew
-LLOYDZ_ELITE69

...Add to this list please.

Edit: my time is a 2:16.760

Not sure if I am misreading your question or not, but clarifying that the top 4 Canadians are the ones they are selecting to go with the top 28 Americans..
