Yeah, that ad's international.

Anyway, how exciting have the races at this track been at this current layout in the past? I just kind of want to get a vague idea of what to expect come Sunday.

It's the scene of the infamous 2002 race where Ferrari forced Barichello to move aside for Schumacher. And also the huge Heidfeld-Sato shunt in 2001 or 2003.

But as Valencia and Abu Dhabi proved in 2012 and Bahrain did this year, the layout does not guarantee an exciting or boring race.

No get-out-of-jail-free tarmac run-offs for Nico to play with this time. :sly:

Do NOT insult the Osterreichring by giving that track its name. Not even Bernie Ecclestone would do such a thing.

Has someone edited a post, or have I missed something? Unless you're referring to the use of the word
Österreich, which, incase you didn't know, is German for Austria.

No. It's the top line of post 7. That's what I replied to and it was not exactly meant to be taken seriously anyway.

To be fair if it wasn't for branding/sponsorship first from A1 and then Red Bull it'd very likely still have that original name.

They can't be serious? That's their idea to make it more exciting? Sure the sparks were cool to see back in the day but it hardly made a difference, it just looked to the untrained eye like something was wrong with the car.

I would like to see those tassles that you can get for bike handlebars mounted on the mirrors, a comedy horn that the drivers use when overtaking and a mandatory loop the loop on each track.

How long would a piece of cardboard sticking into the wheels (held onto the brake ducts with a clothes peg) last? I'm just working up an idea for noisier F1 based on old Raleigh Boxer technology.

A loop the loop would be so cool, and theoretically possible too. Don't forget the Kelloggs cereal packet reflectors to clack against the rims.

The whole point of sparks being cool is that they just happen, because hardcore race car. Making the sparks just for the sake of it is completely pathetic and ruins everything cool about sparking.

F1 is turning into a gimmicky roadshow. It's not motorsport anymore.

Still, sparks tho.

More importantly, without those naming sponsors (especially Red Bull), the track would be on the 'Former F1 circuit, now abandoned' list.

As opposed as I am to rules introduced to fake the excitement, this one actually makes sense. Rolling restarts are pretty much the same and apart from bunching everyone up, rarely leads to any extra excitement. A standing start presents the same wheel-to-wheel scrapping as the original start.

Are there seriously people out there that need fake sparks coming off the cars to make F1 watchable? I don't want to be immersed in an intense battle only for it to be interrupted by some showy crap.

If they were intending some sparky showy off crap they should have just done it without telling us.

It's no different than the sparks from the 80s and 90s as those were created by titanium skidplates as well.

It wasn't intentional though, we'll be watching people wheel to wheel on the limit, cue the fake sparks. Might as well have smoke trails coming out the back of the cars.

It's totally different. The sparks in the 80's/90's where caused by teams dropping the ride hight as much as possible. The Plank was put their to prevent this so artificially adding sparks like this is pure fakery.

The problem is they are considering F1 like a videogame and these people are behaving like EA. So they introduce silly stuff and pretend people like it. The result is obviously sad/laughable.
Nico must be No.5, so who are the rest? Dick Dastardly anyone? ;)
Red Baron is obviously Alonso, #00 is Sebastian :P and Kimi is #3 with the Ferrari test car.
