2015 Formula 1 Grosser Preis Von Österreich

I've been keeping an eye on the test session at Red Bull ring. Believe it or not, Alonso has bested his best time in qualifying last weekend, AND the car has done over 50 laps without fires, explosions, taking flight or any other typical behavior of this years car.
That thing must be camera shy.

Are they using the same tyre compounds?

Think I saw a picture of it breaking down as Alonso was sitting on the guard rail beside it on the main straight so didn't go the whole 2 day session without incident

Hmmm... Don't see any mention of a McLaren breakdown on the SKY live feed or the post testing round up article.

Sooooo, they replaced the nose and wing and all of the sudden the Honda is reliable?

They always knew that Canada and Austria would be tough. They may have underestimated it, but I don't think that they were taken by surprise. I think that most of the frustration comes from the way that the engine reliability is stifling development, but I also think that the media is playing a pretty big part in it. They were under no illusions at the start of the year, and so far, their season has been pretty consistent with their predictions. According to Eric Boullier, they're targeting Hungary for their next step forward, and I imagine that Singapore will be fairly McLaren-friendly, too. But they're going to hate Monza and Sochi if they can't sort it out.

I have also heard that the RA615H is pretty experimental, and is loaded with stuff that the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari are developing, but won't use until 2016.

That's also what I've been lead to believe from interviews with Ron Dennis. It looks like McLaren Honda is just taking a strategic hit this year to maybe get a head start next year with these innovations.
