Fascinating Chase picture right now with Almirola winning.

Dillon (last Chase seed), Biffle, Vickers, Larson, Kahne, Ambrose and Stewart separated by only 29 points.

Wow. All of the powerhouses in the sport are in. This could be big depending on how it ends up.

If they are doing what they claim to be doing, it should help the sport by lowering costs. Who knows what they're up to though

It looks like they are about to leverage their collective buying power to bully vendors into providing better bulk rates on parts. Instead of Rick Hendrick buying shocks for 4 teams, you have 9 guys buying shocks for 25 teams. That should provide a little more leverage in negotiations, if this is all that this alliance is truly intended to do.

NASCAR's hands are tied. If they say "Either disband or don't show up on Sunday", there's 26 cars gone. We'd end up with an 18 car field. And that's also assuming teams such as Front Row (Roush) and Furniture Row (RCR) doesn't follow suit.

Exactly. If the owners say no, that gets all the teams not just the bigger ones as they all use Hendrick/RCR/Roush/MWR equipment meaning the DogeCar wins!

If I remember correctly, 33 full time teams use either Hendrick, RCR, Roush-Yates, or TRD equipment and engines.

If it does what the teams claim they want it to do, NASCAR won't see an issue with it as it's going to help out the smaller teams and possibly bring more teams into the sport, and could also have a trickle-down effect for the Nationwide and Truck Series.

If it ends up being a conglomerate of the big teams doing it to protect their own interests in the sport... it will be nixed quickly under threat of denial of competition just like the drivers union.. although that wasn't just a threat, as Bill France refused to let those in the union participate in the sport while that union was active, and also led to Curtis Turner being banned for life (which was actually only 4 years since NASCAR decided to lift the ban in 1965).

But NASCAR can't do that because these teams have all of the money and all of the superstars- if they pull out we could see Ryan Truex dominate races. Nobody outside of Ryan and Martin Truex want to see that.

I don't think Martin would be very happy, since the 78 car would still be on the track.

It wouldn't get that far. There wouldn't be enough cars to fill the fields, thus NASCAR races would have to be cancelled. It would hurt the teams and the sport, which is why forming a union is a terrible idea.

Hopefully this new alliance isn't a union and it is just to do what they claim it's going to do.

Edit: Then again, FOTA was similar to this, and that has fallen apart and no longer exists.

Edit2: http://www.mrn.com/Race-Series/NASC...07/NASCAR-Explains-Decision-To-Call-Race.aspx

Looks like that race wasn't going to get restarted at a reasonable time once the weather had stopped.

Looks like Kurt Busch's car might have a potential violation on his car. The 41 car is going to NASCAR's Research and Development Center to be inspected.

Good job, though cars always go there after inspection. Last week nascar.com showed a video of JJ's car doing this after his third win with several others and what exactly they go through. So in other words I don't want people to think just because a car is said to be heading there it is automatically bad, it's bad when they have a specific reason to investigate as you pointed out.

RCR hasn't shown a lot of speed this year. But, if the Chase started today, all three of their drivers (Dillon, Menard, Newman) would make it into the Chase on points. Their consistency must be through the roof to have three of the top five winless drivers this season.

Good news is I got 2 tickets and 2 pit passes for the Nationwide race in Joliet next weekend.

Bad news is I can't find anyone who can/wants to go, so I may end up going alone or giving them away.
