Sort of scared at what Ford is going to do to the next-gen Mustang. That first picture just concerns me that they're going to end up killing off the Mustang at some point ether due to lack of designs or lack of people buying the car. Those rear Aston-like flares/wheel wells are just atrocious :scared:.

It was good, up until about the '90s or so, which then came that horrid soft-smooth-unmustanglike look. Then they came back with the '05 being better, yet still butt ugly (literally - I HATE the rear of that thing). Then progressively better with the '07, and then now the fine-as-it-is current styling.

If they do make a move to make this lost Aston Martin twin, I suspect three outcomes: 1) Its loved by most people and is a major success, 2) Fails, but will regain popularity as time goes by and the styling is changed (basically history repeating itself), or 3) It's a total flop and the Mustang dies a horrible, slow, and ugly death that it doesn't deserve.

If they just looked at the older Mustangs (from the 60s), took those styling cues, and added a modern twist separate from what we currently have - wala! Pretty much everyone's happy. Better yet - just take a fastback model from the 60s, throw in a modern engine, disk brakes, LSD, AC, airbags, modern seat belts, fancy leather interior, LED lights, and add crumple zones to keep safety up-to-date. If they did that...Ford can take my money ASAP .

Yup. It basically all comes around full circle... The LS begat the (new) Mustang begots (bigots? bigotten? verboten?) the new LS...

Last I had read, they wanted to supersize the Mustang's platform to make an appropriate MKS successor that can go toe-to-toe with the new CTS, and thereby take on the Germans with a respectable sedan. I've reached two conclusions if that is the case:

1. The new Mustang chassis will be as modular as the GM Alpha chassis

2. The new Mustang chassis will be shared with the Ford Falcon, which will likely be rebodied and luxed-up to create the Lincoln. It's the only way to cut costs...

3. The long-term survival of the D3 chassis, which can trace it's origins to turn-of-the-century Volvo design, seems to be in question...

Eh.

The second is more of an M3-style car, probably with turbocharged V-6 power for markets like Europe.

Something is wrong with that way of thinking. In Europe, you buy an American sportscar for the V8. Nothing else.

Maybe, since they did that with the SVO's 4 banger back in the 1980s. People overseas I've noticed about die when I tell him some of the liter sizes that Ford has cranked out over the years. The hosepower ratings SUCK though.

That's when you talk to car n00bs. Every car person I know, knows about the ludicrous CI y'all had under the hood.

Big Block FTW.

True. Who wouldn't want a 460 (7.5l) chillin under their hood? I mean stock they can get monsterous but when you go HI-PO on an SVO block....my lord.

Teh n00bs already get dizzy when I tell them about my 350 and how it likes gas.
Thankfully I drive on LPG which only costs 64 cent (Euro) at the moment.

My 351 gets 3-6mpg. No joke. GAS GUZZLER

Oh btw, 19 gallon tank and $4 a gallon. Used to do gallons per mile and run that tank down idling in a half hour.

4 bucks is still cheap. $7-8 a gallon here. ~ish.

We are in outrage. When my parents started driving it was just under 50 cents. Then again you guys have different kinds of transportation more readily available to you. Out in the country and trees, filling up 2-3 times a day every day all year adds up FAST.

EDIT: Since the Boss 302 only has a 2 year run (2012/2013) I wonder if they'll do a Boss 351 or Boss 429 with this new generation.

Well, Ford is officially saying that the Mustang is going global...

Interesting time to announce it, particularly when we're on the verge of getting a new Mustang model. I looks like they showed the grille of the current-generation car there at the end, which surprises me, as I thought Europe would be waiting for the next-generation model.

I'd imagine the Europeans are happy. I would be, anyway.

Mustang got me up early racing.
$8 gas got me up late pacing.

So they're bringing it over here?! Finally! Thank you Ford. It was about time (almost 50 years too late). Plenty of new ones have already been privately imported here. Americans got the best Fords anyway. Too bad I don't like the looks of the 5th gen but still... a Stang is a Stang.

It makes sense though, the Camaro arrived in Europe recently, so the battle continues here in Europe. No chance for a Challenger unfortunately.

We'll be getting the new one, just like you guys. Suspect they're only showing clips of the current model as they've not yet officially unveiled the new one yet. Even if we know the front end will probably look similar to the new Mondeo.

But yes, I'm excited. Partly as it means I'll get to drive it at some point.

I thought that Ford had already said that the next Mustang was going to be sold in Europe?

I think they hinted, owing to stuff like IRS and EcoBoost engines and a general increase in sophistication, but hadn't confirmed it.

They finally launched the current one over here. But since the launch, they've been mum about the delivery dates. Perhaps they'll push everything back for the new model, as well.

Too bad. The V8 is absolutely fantastic as it is.

The V8s are probably gonna be retained for the Shelby and other high end trims.

That said, I won't be shocked if they go with a smaller displacement, turbo'd V8 in the engine bays of Shelbys of the future.

Is it possible to make the V8 a fuel-sipper? Or does it just breathe too much?

Variable Displacement and possibly Automatic Start/Stop. Should give a 10% boost in the highway... US EPA cycles don't reflect start/stop tech, though..

Cylinder deactivation is worth pursuing too. Can make a massive different during light load cruising.

Im wondering about prices, we often see hikes in price for europe and that could be a major factor here since the mustang is such a bang for buck package.

I'm pretty sure that's only because of the import cost. The new Mustang would be like the Focus I believe. Because Ford is actually going to market the new Mustang in Europe, the price should be reasonable.
