Oh no, I wasn't trying to make light of the performance of the car. It's still substantial, dollar-for-dollar, but it isn't exactly leagues ahead of everything else in our world these days.

When family sedans like the Audi A4 and BMW 3-series are running in the mid 4's to 60 MPH, it's a bit odd. More traditional family sedans with V6s are in the mid 5's now, the Honda Accord being among the raciest there are.

A quick look on Wikipedia shows that even the fastest non-M 3 series (335i x-drive) comes in at 5.3, not to mention it is clearly aided by its AWD system and costs significantly more than a GT. None S/RS A4 are even slower, getting around low 6 seconds. And I'm pretty sure no FWD family sedan has broken the 6s mark yet, though I think a Coupe version does get to the 5.6 mark.

Doesn't specify anything regarding engines.

Except for the Mach 1 (which is at least, and most likely, a V6), doesn't say anything regarding engines.

Um...
The Mustang II is 175 inches long, 70.2 inches wide, and 49.7 inches high. The front tread is 55.6 inches wide, and the rear tread is 55.8 inches wide. The wheelbase measures 96.2 inches, and the lowest point of ground clearance is 4.95 inches. When equipped with the automatic transmission and the 2.3L engine, the Mustang II has a curb weight of 2,807 lb. When equipped with the 2.8L engine and the manual transmission, it weighs 2,931 lb.

Curb weight – 4 cyl coupe: 2,660 lb

Curb weight -4 cyl hatchback: 2,807 lb

As above.

Doesn't say anything about the weight of the II.

Some random guy saying that it weighs a certain weight. I can dig up random guys on Mustang forums saying that the Fox body convertible only weighed 3200 pounds.

Nothing there but "nearly 500 pounds less than the 1973 version."

The Mach 1 was both more capable and entertaining with its standard V-6 ($299 extra on other models), but no '74 Mustang II was Sixties speedy. The car was heavy for its size (curb weight was a porky 2650-2900 pounds), so a V-6 with four-speed would do 0-60 mph in a lackluster 13-14 seconds and reach only about 100 mph, a far cry from the Boss and big-block days.

The heaviest one would strictly be the V6, too; since that is about the 1974 model.

"400 pounds or more lower in weight than the prior Mustang"

And...? I seriously hope you aren't using Youtube comments as a source.

Max speed 213 kph (132.06 mph)

A non-V8 Ghia and non-V8 Mach 1, since that is what he seemed to be referring to for the purposes of suspension swaps. Those numbers are pretty hokey anyway, since the Ghia was only available on the lighter coupe bodystyle, yet it is much heavier.

That car isn't even remotely stock, assuming he actually weighed it rather than just pulled numbers from somewhere.

Want me to keep going? I can argue about this all day. Lets just agree there is a range depending on model and year.

There is a range, but that range is considerably higher than you're giving Ford credit for rectifying in 1979.

No you guys must do battle, until one of you wins then comes away with a brand new MUSTANG!!!

*Note the winner will not get a brand new mustang, sorry.

I seriously hope the do something with the interior. And not something stupid.

Ah, my mistake. I was thinking back to a Motor Trend article from a few months ago, when they were comparing the all-wheel-drive versions of all the entry-level sedans. For some reason I thought they used an A4, definitely an S4 in that group. Goes to show how un-differentiated the Audis are these days...

Clicking through things, I see the Q50 is now into the low 5's with rear-drive. I remember thinking that was quite fast when the '02 Camaro SS was diving under 5.3 seconds.

Was done 6 years ago by my car in the manual trim.

5.5 is a bit exaggerated, but others achieved 5.7-5.8.

That's one of the worse steering wheels I've ever seen. I hope the actual car isn't like that.

Has the Mustang ever had quad exhausts facing outward like that?

Ok, wasn't too sure. I wasn't aware of the FR 500 from '99 and I had only ever seen single exhausts on the 60s cars (though admittingly, its mostly been on the GT500s, GT350 and the Fastback).

Yeah it was mostly on the Mach1 for the '60s cars.

The '99 FR500 was a awesome car if a bit unknown. It also had very weird exhaust setup where the X pipe crossover was after the mufflers.

Every Mustang that came with a V8 in the '60s had duals, 2 pipes, no cross overs or anything special, just straight pipes (and mufflers, depending). The only Mustangs that had single exhaust from 1964-1973 was the 6 cylinder cars. I can't think of many that had quad factory exhausts stock, simply because it was so long ago and pictures you find now are likely changed.

I'm liking the front end but everything gets a bit meh after the A pillar on that render...

I know they're done with the retro deal but if they were to keep going with it and did a retro 'Stang with influences from the 1970 model, GTA5 nailed it!

Yeah they definitely did. That car looks amazing in game. Little bit too close to the original lol
