8 go straight to race camp yeah, but only 4 qualify from the round 4 online time trial. The other 4 will be live event winners.

Don't worry, a large number of quick guys might not be eligible if they aren't letting 2013/14 national finalists in.

Ah I see, it's so hard to gauge where you really stack up in the online rankings because certain people/countries might not even be eligible. I need to improve either way!

This year i'll certainly be giving it my all at the live event. Last year I wasn't aware of the prize at the FoS so gave all my gaming effort to the competition to win a run up the hill with Jann and a PS3, I got that one so gonna give it my best this year.

What was the challenge at FOS last year??

I may be wrong but i'm sure in round 4 last year we got our territory rankings?? anyone remember?
That's correct. First 3 rounds it just lumps everyone in together in a global rank. For the final round (the only round that counts) they will sub-divide it into your territory groups.

Eew active steering on, tc5 and Srf on!?
The whole schmear. ABS10 and ASM too.
The challenge I won was a TT up the hillclimb in the Nissan Vision GT car. On the Nissan/NISMO stand.
Ah, you were tied closely with your brother I believe? When I left I was 5th, but 4th after discounting the 1.4s time on the board!

I'm afraid I don't have a brother aha but I do remember the time of 1.4s on the board.

Hmm... must have you mistaken for another Matt.

Also, I was there on the Thursday for the Vision 2020 unveil, so the thought occurs that the names on the leaderboard when I was there weren't necessarily the same ones at the end

Ah I see, I arrived pretty late to the Nissan stand on the Sunday and set a time a few hours before the timer ran out. The guy who was top before had won on each of the other days so they must have reset the times.

2:10.8xx and im done after 20mins. Good luck to everyone else that has a go. smooth and tidy is the key to a quick lap.

Did another session this evening and down to a 2:05.762, think that'll do me for today. :)

Awesome work! You should be happy with that man. I can't get back on till after work tonight. Need to work on my 2.06.8 but really struggling to see where I can make big gains!

Often there are no big gains, just lots of little ones. :)

I'm down to a 6.6 and still seeing about .4 if I can string it together, after that i'll be chasing hundreths

LOL so the rules are you can spend £250k on real driving like Kimi Larson in 2014, but the experience gained driving a juke in a car park for 5 mins rules you out :dunce:

In theory yes, but I don't think anyone's spent £250k yet  also, who's Kimi Larson?

Thanks, I think the main key for this TT is braking as late as possible without compromising your turn in, which means you need to do a lot of trail braking and then nail the turn in point and cornering speed.

Haha yeah I know what you mean. Even little gains are looking marginal, if I can knock another .500 off I'd be chuffed! I guess you just have to keep going. The car handling frustrates me so much. And I've just been reading about this engine braking technique which the really quick guys seem to use, guess I'm going to have to try learn that now!

I shall try again tonight and try trail braking harder. Along with strapping a turbo on it!

The thing is that you say that now, but in a week's time or so you'll have knocked a big chunk off. Last year in the final round I made almost 1.5 seconds on my final time after having been convinced that I couldn't go any faster than the time I set in the first couple of days.

The key is to keep trying different things and look at the top guy's replays- use the data logger to see where they're making the biggest gains and then watch that section of the replay- when people stagnate it's because they're trying the exact same lines/braking points/gear selection etc. over and over again and expecting a different result (i.e. to suddenly make up a tenth or two).

Good advice! Thanks mate. I won't give up.

And so it begins. First in my Youtube mini-series on entering GT Academy. Will be getting behind the wheel in a matter of hours. Wish me luck, folks...think I'm gonna need it! :nervous:
