Well here we go. The fun gets under way on the 21st of this month. Looks to be the same format and dates as last year.

So who's going for it? Who's ineligible?

Feel free to discuss anything UK GTA related in here

GOOD LUCK UK!! Let's bring it home this year!
I'm already started in to the top 1000, I just get the time down to anything decent..

Had a quick go this morning, 20mins to get to a 07.2 on a pad, I see quickest pad is an 06.2 and I think that's quite achievable.

Might take it reasonably seriously when it gets to the final round, just to see where I end up, I doubt many are bothering at this stage. Would quite like to be quickest on a pad but I see there are a few others in this thread already gunning for that title too :P

This is the fasted person with a pad so far Andil, he/she is currently 53rd in the rankings.

Ta! Is that internationally? When I looked this morning, quickest UK pad was 06.2, so maybe I will set my sights lower to "quickest UK pad user" :P

Edit: Just looked at http://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/academy/2015/rankings/ - yes, Japanese user, I think I will only go for UK quickest then :P

Ah you didn't mention UK initially, still good to know a UK pad user isn't too far behind the worlds best.
Sure there's an American guy who used a pad last year and was super quick too.

Had a quick go yesterday afternoon and after 2 valid laps (5 total) I was on a 2:07.511 using the DS3. Had another quick go later and got that down to a 2:07.205, which I'm fairly happy with. :) Annoyingly university's coming to an end for me so I can't put much time to GT Academy, otherwise I'd try and fail to give Andil a run for that top UK pad time title. :D It's always interesting to see the difference between pad and wheel times; sometimes there's next to no difference between pad and wheel times (about half a tenth at Apricot Hill last year) and sometimes we're at a bit of a disadvantage, like at Spa last year when we couldn't take Eau Rouge or Blanchimont flat when wheel users could.
Anyway, good luck to everyone with meeting their personal targets this year. :)

Finally had my first hit-out. Editing the video down now. Watching the top guys' replays was a real eye-opener on just how aggressive to be, and just how much on the limit to push. Unbelievable. I can tell I will be pushed far, FAR beyond my fairly meagre limits in the next few weeks! Very excited. Video should hopefully be online later. :)

Got down to a 2:08.222 with a DS3, can't wait to set up my DFGT this weekend. I'll doubt I'll break into the sub-06's but I'll give it a good shot regardless.

It's such an annoying car to drive, heavy and full of understeer. Watching the quick laps I can't believe how close the top guys get to the grass/cones without their lap being invalidated.

Well he didn't break any rules so as long as its your first season. I guess a TOCA package driver can turn up in the UK

Hey adstomko what is your situation? (racing CV)

I was a karting driver as a youngster, with a National A licence, which may not be acceptable (Spurgy said earlier too) - but it was just a karting licence, but it could still be classed as a racer's licence

Has anybody tried the T300 for a hot lap? If so, what's it like? Better than the Logitech wheels?

I think karting licences do count as racing licences, in this instance anyway, but I'm not totally sure.

The more I think about it, the more I feel our theories are correct. Without sounding negative, looking at the times, I have very little chance anyway, and I haven't even started

Dont know if this has been asked but how do you find out where you are in your country. Can you filter the list in anyway?

I'm in the same boat. When I was younger me and my dad tried to make it in karting and somehow scrambled barely enough money to compete in a year of nation racing. However the costs were just insane and sadly he had to re-mortgage the house! Obviously no more karting after that haha. But it required me to get a national A license. It would be such a shame to not be able to compete in gt academy because of this. I'm currently 2nd in the uk on the leaderboards so the thought I could potentially make it then be told I can't enter would be very upsetting.

If I do somehow make past online qualifications I will deal with it then, otherwise I will have no motivation to get good times haha.

Well potentially I could be in the same boat too. I held a kart national A up till 2012. But I didn't race in super 1. I only did club racing. It's a tough call, it says competed at national level. I'd argue I didn't, just club racing.

I've been looking through the standings, I never expected to be fast but by god there are some fast drivers! I've also had a look at the standings and found I'm at least in the top 100 of the UK! :D

That is my aim for now, stay in the UK Top 100!

(h)not previously held a National A or superior MSA license or equivalent in another Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) recognised National Sporting Authority (ASN) or Recognised Motorsport Body;

(i)not have competed in any form of 4 wheeled motorsport at a national championship level for more than one full season (the Promoter reserves the right to judge what classes as national level motorsport)

That would imply karting counts as it's a form of 4 wheel motorsport

The second bullet point is what makes me think I'll be ok though. It's states not competed at national championship level for one whole season or more. Iv never raced at national championship level...

I hope so because to race at national level you HAVE to have a national A. Good job I only did one season then :) as it states more than 1.

They're two separate points though. You are ineligible if you've ever had a National A or higher licence and/or ever competed at a national level for more than one season. So whether you competed or not is irrelevant since you had a National A level licence.

Whether they count a karting licence within that is the question- contact them and see.

The way I read it your fine as long as you've not competed in a top line championship in the UK. Local stuff is fine

Got to agree with @FordMKIVJ5. The way I interpret it is as 2 separate points.

You can't have competed in national motorsport.

You can't have held a national A licence.

The big question is if that applies to karting

I've been looking at the participating territories and seen Spain only have 2 that can go through... REALLY????

I've looked at the standings and there are 13 SPANIARDS IN THE TOP 50! That's 26%!

TWENTY-SIX PERCENT OF THE TOP FIFTY ARE SPANISH AND THEY'RE ONLY ALLOWING TWO?!

I'm trying to find out today, will be devo if that includes karting. The guys who have raced in karts will know when you apply there is an option to choose a Kart national A or a National A license (which is for car racing). Hopefully I'll get an answer later.

You will be fine if it's actually called "Kart National A" - then it's not the same thing. Just compete, you'll be fine, they won't have an issue with a kart license regardless of what level :P
