More like after 2002, I think he had planned to put Jeff Burton in his car from 2003 onwards.
But Jeff Burton was still at Roush at this time. I highly doubt Richard Childress would've gone through all the effort. Otherwise, I could conceive of Earnhardt retiring in 2002 and RCR scrambling to fill the ride

DP for Michael Idiocy:

"He can't win the Driver's championship, but he can still go to Homestead and win the Owner's championship for KBM. That'd be great for them to hold on to."

Bull. 🤬. 🤬. You ignorant 🤬-sucking 🤬.

Its stuff like this that makes me wonder why Fox keeps letting him comentate races.

If my memory serves me correctly ((IIRC) at this age not much serves me at all)) Dale Sr. had already fingered Jeff B to join RCR. At the time NASCAR banned certain sponsorship ((liquor)(Royal Crown for Burton)) and poor Burton was left sponsor-less at Roush for quite a while. That whole ordeal is really the only thing NASCAR has done to piss me off, regardless of recent activity.

Oh yeah, then Burton gets AT&T/Cingular as a sponsor and NASCAR says (in my words) "Sorry guys Sprint says no other phone company's, your sponsor has got to go". WTF, again!!

I am/was a Burton fan if you didn't know, just look at my avatar.

Exclusivity deals have killed a lot of deals over the years.
David Reutimann almost jumped from MWR to a fourth RCR car in 2011, but the sponsor was denied by NASCAR due to the Sprint exclusivity deal.

If you follow NASCAR's reddit page and the theory on the new RCR sponsor for next year, you may know what company it was

We would probably have 3 Penske cars as well considering Verizon may have stuck around had they been able to have their logo on the #12 car.

Brendan Gaughan had a "Hur dur!" moment, will start 25th. Odds are he won't make it to the last ring of the circus.

EDIT: KB on pole, Blake Koch puts himself in 4th, ahead of all but Busch, Jones, and Reed.

Why NASCAR decided to not only add an elimination format, but use that same format for all three series is downright mindboggling and reeks of total incompetence.

My heart breaks for William Byron. That young man raced his tail off and deserved to win the championship. He won six races this year, and should be hoisting the championship trophy. But he won't even be able to be in the "championship 4". What a crock of 🤬 !

Even in the first iterations of the Chase at the Sprint Cup level, you could have one or two bad finishes, and manage to recover.

I am really starting to lose patience with TBTP that run this sport. We DID not need Game 7 moments in NASCAR, yet they continues to push them on us and alienate the loyal fan base.

I don't care if the championships are decided before the season finale. At least the season has a chance to play out naturally. Next year, NASCAR had better make the right call and get rid of this asinine playoff format AND the caution clock ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Because I am seriously close to boycotting NASCAR next year.

Facinating. That makes sense

Who was it, pray tell. I don't really follow Reddit at all.

Indeed. Also, Dodge leaving pretty much tanked it since they alone were pretty much propping up the 12 team at the end

T-Mobile.

Pretty much.

Of course the 12 team was replaced with the 22 team which almost lost their sponsor as Sonoco was having a hissy fit.

Oddly, I think NASCAR not finding a new title sponsor would be a good thing as I don't think they can afford to block out sponsors anymore.

I'd be fine with Walmart. Dollar General is leaving and Target may not be around in motorsports much longer. With Walmart, every other brand in the U.S. will be encouraged to sponsor cars because Walmart does business with everybody
