I don't think that it would necessarily have been an upset. Five of our players come from American professional teams, and France is the only other squad with as many NBA players. America is pretty much the only place our players can go, since the domestic league has been struggling for years.

It would be an upset. Australia may have five NBA players, but given the opportunity, I would not swap any of those five guys for a US player, except maybe Harrison Barnes. The US team's only real weakness is a lack of a facilitator.

Kayla Harrison just scored Gold in Women's Judo for the United States. A wicked choke she put on Audrey T. (France) put away Audrey late in their match. It was awesome! ...not so much if you're the other lady, though.

Fiji, Kosovo, and Kazakhstan have all made history in the past two days.

Ah, I remembered them winning a few medals last Olympics, didn't know they've never done anything in the pool before.

I love seeing countries getting their first Olympic medals. Kosovo especially given how a lot of countries, including Brazil, refuse to recognize their independence from Serbia. Fiji beating UK 43-7 was fantastic too.

I saw South Africa run over Japan and Fiji crush Great Britain in Rugby Sevens. Let's face it- you are going to have a tough time in rugby (let alone Rugby Sevens) beating a South Pacific nation. Fiji is no scrub/tomato can (or any similar term) in rugby.

I am familiar with Kazakhstan, as there is a fashion blogger I follow who is Kazakh. So it's cool seeing the central Asian nation get a medal. And wait... Kosovo? I think back in my High School days, Kosovo was still mostly war-torn. I also think I remembered having to do an English assignment making a letter to a soldier there. But it's cool Kosovo got themselves an Olympic medal.

Fiji winning the Rugby sevens, is the highlight of the games so far for me. Really special moment.
Five of our players come from American professional teams,

This isn't even our strongest lineup either. We're missing Dante Exum who's on the come back from tearing his ACL in a NBA summer league game last year. As well as the #1 pick in the NBA draft this year Ben Simmons and the #10 pick Thon Maker.

Quite an exciting time for Australian basketball. 👍

NBC with that pic for Phelps

Phelps is just too good, to come out of retirement to win (at least) 4 more golds is ridiculous. But the way he won the 200 IM was stupid; I don't normally like the Americans winning everything in the pool but I welcome performances like that any day, like tomorrow when Ledecky wins the 800 by a week.
Special mention for Canadian Penny Oleksiak as well, by finishing joint 1st with Simone Manuel in the 100m free she became the first individual gold medallist born this century. 👍

So far, the livestream from the courtroom during the lawsuit of turner Yuri van Gelder against the Dutch Olympic committee was more exciting than everything I've watched at the Olympics so far. Damn!

Well it's started now and the stadium is still 90% empty. It's really disappointing and the rain hasn't helped.

The BBC spoke about this issue of attendance and basically it's a misconception that Brazilians like a variety of sports. They only really like Football and there is little interest in other stuff. Most locals for example could only name one athlete, Usain Bolt.

Also cost is a factor, this is still very much a developing nation and locals will buy tickets for later stages because they may not have the money to buy more than one event or stage. So the stadium might only be close to full on the final day.

The final issue is infrastructure, it is difficult to travel around especially to the out of town venues.

So when you have people barely interested coupled with cost being an issue and it being difficult to get there it's a disaster for attendance. They should have priced the tickets much cheaper for starters.

The diving pool has been closed by the organisers
, the probably found out there is some danger to human health after all! :ill: Don't know if it will reopen later in the week for the rest of the diving or whether they will have to do it at a different venue. It means no athletes can practice in the mean time.

I knew they should have emptied it the minute it went Green!

Sonia O'Sullivan, who many believe has been denied medals through drug cheats finishing above her, has serious doubts over that race being clean, as she set the world record by the length of a straight.

Edit: Also what or why is Dressage?
