Makes 89 million for Pogba seem a bit of a bargain...

In all seriousness though. After we signed Pogba, Mourinho was pressed about the fee and he said that in few years everyone will be paying that sort of amount, and looks what's happening now, I have never known a transfer window quite like this one, its insane...

I'm glad that none of you are in charge of my team, you all sound like my dad who thinks Shearer's 15million fee is still relevant.

£200m for 1 player is relevant in your opinion then? + £775k something a week?

It is in Scotland.
It's taken until this season, 21 years later, for a second tier club to pay £15m for a player. Wolves and Ruben Neves, for reference - although relegated Boro also paid £14.5m for Assombalonga.

Becoming a common fee in the championship too :(
I should probably have worded that differently - £15 million in the SPFL would be a record (either in or out)... interesting to note that all of the record sums paid by Scottish clubs occurred in the 1997-2002 period, when Scotland had two CL spots and Rangers were flying high in Europe thanks to their tax avoidance scheme 👍

Various reports claim Moneymar 222m release fee money brought to La Liga but they rejected it

Bloody EBTs....

Here's hoping Celtic pay 15 million for Paddy Roberts. :D   :(

Reading a lot about Bale and Man United on social media today....

Edit: BIG BREAKING NEWS!

Barcelona have received a £198 million payment for Neymar from PSG, which is his release clause, meaning he is no longer a Barcelona player...

Yup.
Paid for by a couple of lawyers.
Shady as ****.

edit

I hope he gets boo'd off the pitch everywhere he goes.

Edit 2.

Apparently the Qatar money spenders, Qatar Investment Authority, are the owners of PSG.

It absolutely is relevant, and is a transfer fee that was always going to happen, and would have happened sooner if teams spent as recklessly as the 90's.

That being said, I don't think it's a fee that will be beaten for a long time, maybe even longer than Zidane's record.

Been reading the thread and the astronomical prices for players in the current market.
Best quote came from Jose Mourinho in past few days regarding its not the price paid for Neymar but how much it impacts on other clubs and how much they now charge for players in the current market, Which presumably means every player by clubs is going to get inflated price when they come to buy/sell?

Anyway found a good site that works out the stats for clubs of your choice with detailed view of whats spent and what has come back in from players going out.
A little better than the media rubbish that gets plastered around for just money spent totals?
Plus am presuming the figures shown are for the signing fee and not over-inflated prices by the press/media/bonus/ and other add-ons.

Anyway a link to a few clubs and once you get there maybe you could have a look at your club. :)
Man City
Man Utd
Chelsea Not doing too bad by the looks of figures. £-14.62m
Tottenham Doing very well. +£68.17m

PSG £-187.85m

Apology for the double post. :(

I've booked a table at a bar in Edinburgh to watch the season opener between Celtic and Hearts tomorrow, but the reservation email says the table is booked from 12-2 pm... I asked for 12 because we will order food and have a few pints before the game (it's a 12.30 kick-off), but the 2 pm end time is before the end of the match . That said, I fear that my Hearts supporting buddies might be quite happy to leave at 2 pm, given that it will probably be 4-0 to Celtic by then (and that might be wishful thinking :ill:)

Kyle Lafferty to bang a worldy in from 35 yards.

ENGLISH FOOTBALL IS BACK!

Feels like I've been waiting a century but the championship kicked off tonight.
Nottingham Forrest beat Millwall 1-0. Sunderland drawing with Derby 1-1. I foresee a difficult seasons for Sunderland, I most certainly don't see they doing a Newcastle.

Charity shield time today. Arsenal Vs Chelsea in a rematch of the FA Cup Final.

I have to side with Chelsea on this one, I just can't see Arsenal beating them, but I said that in the FA Cup too.

Directed at @Touring Mars seeing as you're psychic, who wins?

No, although I also correctly predicted a hangover today as well.

Tough one, but I'm going to go with Arsenal 1-0!

My predictions for the coming season.

1. Man City
2. Man United
3. Chelsea
4. Tottenham
5. Arsenal
6. Liverpool
7. Everton
8. Southampton
9. West Ham
10. Bournemouth
11. Newcastle
12. Leicester
13. Crystal Palace
14. Watford
15. Stoke
16. Swansea
17. Huddersfield
18. West Brom
19. Burnley
20. Brighton

I feel Man City have the edge over everyone else at the top, but I think it'll be a close race this year. United will improve to second, I don't think Conte has been entirely happy with the transfers at Chelsea over the summer and the CL brings more games and more rotation, Spurs still have one of the strongest first XI's in the league despite the lack of new signings, Arsenal will push hard for a top four place but Spurs will just nick it. Liverpool still haven't addressed the squad depth problems they have despite some good signings. Everton have been hitting the headlines over the summer but they cant expect to break into the top four just like that, cohesion takes time.

Still fancy Southampton to finish in the top eight, West Ham will improve with their good signings, as will Bournemouth. Newcastle Should do the better of the three promoted clubs, they have the most top flight experience in their team and a top class manager. I haven't given Leicester, Palace and Watford too much thought but they should all do a bit better with the new managers and the signings they have made.

As for the bottom, Hughes is walking a bit of a tightrope at Stoke as the club slowly starts to decline, they weren't up to much last season and wont be this season, Swansea will be in the fight regardless of Sigurdsson being sold or not but my heart says we'll survive again, Huddersfield have actually been one of the biggest spenders in Europe (!!) in an effort to stay up, and I think they will....just!. West Brom are in a similar position to Stoke with the fans quickly losing faith in Pulis, Burnley will miss Michael Keane badly and I think Brighton will find things difficult in the top flight.

So that's mine, what about you lot??
