2017 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand PrixFormula 1

Not quite as quick as I imagined they would be actually, even considering that this is practice. Based on practice trends in previous years here, it's hard to imagine that the grid is sandbagging so much that the Q3 pole time will be any lower than a 1:21.6, much less break into the 20's.

Haven't seen FP1 myself, but judging from the doom and gloom headlines regarding McLaren it looks like they've gone back to 2015. And Mercedes are ahead of the pack as usual...

One can hope to see the Honda engine turned up closer to it's full potential, but if they're still struggling with vibrations I wonder if they'll be competitive at all this year. And if this will be their last year in F1.

How come Magnussen is so far off from his Haas team mate? Almost 2 seconds slower.
Compare the number of laps. Magnussen probably only did lo g run pace, while Grosjean got a faster time with lighter fuel

Kevin Magnussen labelled his first official running with Haas as "frustrating" after a couple of issues hindered his progress during practice for the Australian Grand Prix.

Magnussen finished down in 17th position in the first session amid struggles with the balance of his VF-17, before a water leak interrupted his programme later in the afternoon.

So they're literally sandbagging

It's 2016 all over again, Mercedes toying with the others in free practice.

I'd like to propose a new rule change: drivers are not permitted to grow facial hair. Seriously, Vettel and Palmer look like they've got a fungal infection.
I'm amazed the team's let them do it. The engineers spend so much money and time trying to shave off a few grams from each part, then their driver turns up with half a kilo of mess on their face. The drivers all try to lose weight in the gym, but a short back and sides, plus a good shave would save them some effort.

Making it a rule to have no bodily hair at all would be hilarious. Seeing Alonso or Ricciardo or Magnussen bald would be hilarious.

If you click the link I posted, it also shows the tires used.

Everyone except for:

Verstappen
Massa
Magnussen
Palmer

Set their time on Ultra-Soft, whereas the 4 above did on Super-Softs.

The Nothing But Commercials Sports Network sure is living up to their name, every 4-5 mins there's an ad.

Not to sound rude but honestly, its getting annoying seeing these complaints over and over as if we've never seen it happen before. Fox does it, NBC does, ABC does it (when they for some reason don't feel like doing side by side).

Just watching my recordings of FP1 & 2 in 4K on Sky and it's incredible to see just what is going on with the tyres in slow motion when they are riding the kerbs. Loving the extra resolution so far.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the new mini sector/split HUD they have? it's a bit spoiler-y and takes away from the excitement of knowing the split times.

I also seen to find it's a bit much. Hard to see too and I don't even wear glasses. The suspense of waiting to see the entire sector split is gone.

Couldn't agree more regarding NBC. I'd have practice playing and be looking at my laptop every time they go to the garage shots, and then as I look back at the TV, commercial.

Wouldn't be surprised if they started squeezing in ads during corners or injuries for football. Hope I didn't just give them an idea.

Do you guys actually pay for channels that have ads during races? :odd:

We pay for channel packages with said channels (with ones like FS1 and NBCSN only available via Satallite/Cable providers) Its American Television though, its kinda the norm at this point. As long as its the big three broadcasting companies, its gonna be ad city

Wow that sucks. I can watch the race in HD without commericals and it doesn't cost extra.

Thankfully, there is streaming for stuff like this and IMSA (with the later have different commentators but no ads at all) so we do have that as an alternative. Really helps to have a good connection though, otherwise prepare to watch that little buffering circle spin quite a lot.

That's a bit greedy.
