2018 Grand Prix de MonacoFormula 1

To be fair to Ricciardo & Senna, that's a comparison of apples & oranges.

So many differences to be taken into account. The track layout is different for a start.

Senna's lap was 1.4 seconds faster than Prost in P2 (a dual WDC at the time) in the same car. Something I seriously doubt we will ever see again.
No driver's aids just determination & skill.
It wouldn't even be possible to make a gap like that on a top team mate anymore, the lap is now much quicker and cars are much closer, it would require a dominant car a useless team mate and a mega lap of the gods.

Just saw it, wish I had before we worked today on the car. Holy OMG!!!

I am pulling for Danny tomorrow and wish I could upload a song called "I predict a riot" ;-)

I predict a bad start by webber and being swamped by the ferrari

But that's the point, Senna didn't have a useless team mate, which is why the lap was so good.

Tbh though, Ricciardo beat his team mate by a whole 19 grid spots, so maybe it should go down in folklore

Does someone know what is that fiber-like white thing in place of the missing suspension part ?

It's from the wheel tether, it is Zylon.

It’s crazy how much of the track has no catch fencing or debris fencing, or at least very little. Casino and the straight after, have no catch fencing at all on the inside of the track. Marshalls would be in the direct firing line if debris were to come off a car and go over the fencing. A lot of the catch fencing that there actually is, lacks height, including on high speed parts of the track. The up hill run towards Casino, the name escapes me, could be the site of a terrible accident if a car got airborne off the back of another car, as it wouldn’t take much for a car to clear the fencing, or impact the top of it.

Doesn't an F1 track have to be AAA or some crap in terms of safety.
Does monaco class as AAA or is this rule ignored for "Tradition"

Some obvious hostility there, why's that?

No hostility.

Just with how the FIA treats safety these days, monaco does not seem that safe, with lots of blind corners and the wider cars these days.

One mistake like what max had and accidents are going to be frequent

I'm not sure that his accident is going to be a cause of any others, nor am I sure that sanitising tracks to the point where there's zero penalty for any mistake is going to keep the fans coming back.

Motorsport is dangerous.

Take this very same circuit. Dump it in a field, and I struggle to see it making the cut. No run offs, not great for racing either etc. This is a pov shared by many in and around F1 too.

Suzy Wolff pretty much just said this on live TV... that said, it clearly meets the required standard of safety to allow F1 to continue, but there's little doubt that it remains one of (if not the most) dangerous tracks for drivers and marshalls alike.
