So is Charlotte Motor Speedway implying that the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course is going to be a sweet race with the cupcakes? :)

Final Practice for Cup at Sonoma Raceway is going on right now as of the time of this post. People do embrace road raing in Cup. I often times don't know why there isn't more road racing. Early when I was learning about road racing, that's why I liked (then) CART- an interesting balance of ovals and road racing (including various temporary courses). Can you imagine there are people even wondering about a street course for NASCAR?

Later tonight is NASACR Trucks at Gateway International Raceway. Before then, there will be ARCA racing Gateway. I know I have been hyping Sonoma with Cup cars on Sunday, but Gateway is a fine oval. Gateway is like America's Twin Ring Motegi (Superspeedway). As I learned on Wikipedia, Gateway is rather old- Gateway opened in 1967, and Motegi opened in 1997. Gateway International Raceway is somewhat egg-shaped, and it is not uncommon to sense race cars shift through the gears while cornering. So there is some road racing challenge to this oval.

No matter what NASCAR racing you're into this weekend, enjoy the races! Good luck to all drivers and teams.

While I think that stage racing has marginally improved the mid-race excitement at oval tracks, it definitely destroys race-long pit strategy at road courses. The only real question was whether to one stop or two stop the final segment. For the second year in a row, the final segment went green and was won by a one-stop strategy.

Due to a prior engagement, we couldn't attend the race at Chicagoland today. Ok by me since it is going up to ~95°F with a 106°F heat index down in Joliet.

Tomorrow should be slightly cooler, but possible afternoon thunderstorms. Could very well be another shortened race.

My god nbc's commentary sucks.

And it’s not like Fox sets a high standard nowadays, either, with DW and Mike well past their sell by date and Jeff’s insincerity. Hopefully Rick Allen gets replaced by Allen Bestwick ASAP since I can’t imagine Allen is too happy about not getting to cover racing at all anymore at ABC. And Letarte is as shrill and annoying as ever.

NBC going the route of switching back and forth between a score tower, and a score ticker.

Side by side is the same as last year.

Yo, this race has been really good so far. Constant battle for the lead between Harvick, Larson, and Truex. Clint, and Almirola led at points as well. Last lap pass for the win of stage 2. No crashes just nice long green flag runs. I'm loving this!

17 races through and only 6 different winners. That has to be a record of some sorts (I'm too lazy to do the research myself).

They mentioned during the broadcast that the last time that 2 drivers had 5 wins each by this point in the season was in 2010 with Johnson and Hamlin.

Just got home from Chicagoland, it was a fun day and a great race. We must have been in a section full of Kyle Larson fans, because almost all stood up and flipped off Kyle Busch when he took the checkers.

Me, I wanted Bowyer or Almirola to win it.

Luckily it was windy, otherwise I couldn't deal with it being 97°F, with a 106°F heat index. It did cloud up and cool off toward the end. Plus the rain held off until we were back in the car and on the way home.

Definitely an exciting finish. Was nice to see the "thumbs up" from Larson. Hard racing from talented drivers with respect for one another. Far cry from last season"s Hamlin / Elliott dustup. But then I did say talented drivers. Denny has many wins. Prince Entitlement still has ZERO

Amen.

The Bank of America 500 has been shortened from 500km to 400km to theoretically put it on par with the average race times as Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen International.
