RE: Liverpool's second goal in this FA Cup Semi-Final

Goalkeepers who mess around with the ball in the goal mouth are always at risk of a striker doing exactly what Mane just did. Apparently Ederson got lucky with Jota sliding in in the PL a few days ago, now Steffen has been caught out by Mane. Has Klopp noticed that Goalkeeper dawdling is a Guardiola tactic and finally capitalised on it?

City are struggling so far. 2-0 down after 17 minutes. They need to get some calm time or make an early change or Liverpool are going to put this game to bed and out of reach pretty soon.

FA Cup Semi-Final
Man City 2-3 Liverpool

A worthy attempt at a comeback by City, but Liverpool's three goals in a dominant first half were too much to recover from.

Spurs 0-1 Brighton
Southampton 1-0 Arsenal
Watford 1-2 Brentford
Man United 3-2 Norwich
Man City 2-3 Liverpool

Brilliant first half from Liverpool saw them 3-0 up at half time! Konate with the first goal then a terrible piece of goalkeeping from Steffen in the City goal as he dawdled on the ball rather than boot it or pass it which led to Mane to come steaming in to tackle him and put the ball in the net, Mane with Liverpool's third with a great finish, Grealish put City in the game right after half time and they were better in the second half but they had too much to do, Silva got a late goal but it was too late by then, Liverpool through to their first FA Cup final in 10 years and the quadruple is still on for them and City's treble dreams are over. Another fantastic game from two world class teams much like Sunday.

In the league the top four race takes another turn as Spurs and Arsenal both lost and United won, a Ronald hat-trick for United who were 2-0 up but pegged back to 2-2, off days for both Spurs and Arsenal and United are three points off fourth now, Brentford winner came in the 95th minute!

Were City's lineup changes dictated by that Atletico Madrid game or is it that the FA Cup is the one competition they are willing to sacrifice in pursuit of the bigger picture Premier League championship and a first Champion's League title?

Keep your Cristiano Ronaldo, we've got Barry Bannan.

Had a feeling you would post something about that goal, it was a great strike!

Felt like a statement of priorities to me.
If it was just the Atletico game making players tired, he could have brought on more than sub to try to get a draw (who wasn't a striker and didnt even appear until the 83rd minute!).

If Man City don't win the League and/or Champions League now, fingers will point back to the Cup game.

Ashley Westwood's foot is on back-to-front. Not quite sure what he's broken but it's either tib/fib or a complex ankle fracture and nobody who's looked at it has come away less than queasy.

Edit: And two back-to-back "medical incidents" in the crowd at the same time...

Newcastle 2-1 Leicester
West Ham 1-1 Burnley
Chelsea 2-0 Palace

Chelsea will face Liverpool in this years FA cup final, they beat Crystal Palace in the semi final with second half goals from Loftus-Cheek and Mount, it was quite an even first half but Chelsea stepped it up in the second and the quality told, credit to Palace on a good cup run and are still having a great season.

A 95th minute winner from Guimares gave Newcastle the win and he scored their first as well, Lookman put Leicester ahead. As mentioned the West Ham-Burnley game was rather overshadowed by a horrific leg injury to Burnley's Westwood, Weghorst put Burnley ahead but Soucek equalised, Cornet missed a penalty for Burnley.

There are six PL games in the week this week, I shall post them tomorrow.

Games for this week.

Tuesday.
Liverpool v Man United (8pm Sky)

Wednesday.
Chelsea v Arsenal (7.45 Sky)
Everton v Leicester
Man City v Brighton (8pm)
Newcastle v Crystal Palace

Thursday.
Burnley v Southampton (7.45 Sky)

Derby have been relegated to League One after they lost 1-0 to QPR and Reading got a dramatic late equaliser v Swansea in today's Football League games.

No Ronaldo for United tonight against Liverpool after the sad news last night. his new-born baby son passed away.

Both sets of players will wear black armbands and there'll be a minutes applause on seven minutes from both sets of supporters.

Liverpool 4-0 Man United.

Nice easy comfortable win for Liverpool with Salah scoring twice plus Diaz and Mane getting the others, another absolutely horrific performance from United who offered next to nothing and a couple of defensive mistakes lead to goals, only plus points for United were the minutes applause for Ronaldo on seven minutes from both sets of supporters which was really lovely to see and young Hannibal Mejbri who came off the bench late on and fouled a few Liverpool players quickly, who was the only one who showed some fight from United!

Fulham have been promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking after they beat Preston 3-0.

I know Liverpool seem to play Man City every week, but I'm pretty sure they were playing Man United tonight ;)

I thought Liverpool were great in the 1st half, and the 2nd goal was beautiful. 😲 Utd came into it a bit for 20 mins or so before 2 more goals and Liverpool saw out the game.

Some of the media were saying even during the many years when Man Utd were dominant, there were never any really truly easy games for them against Liverpool, but this Utd team don't seem to have any character or will to win. You would not think they are 'fighting' for a Champions League place.

It was a good moment when all the fans of both applauded to show support for Ronaldo and his family during this terrible time they are going through. There are many things bigger than football.

It is going to be interesting to see Cit€h v Brighton tomorrow. Cit€h looked well off their game at Wembley, but they may have some players come back into the squad. Brighton as always may find goals hard to come by. I hope not. ;) 😄

Our season is done and it has been since we were knocked out of the Champions League a few weeks back, we have been in the top four fight but we were never going to get it, definitely won't now!

This summer is going to be so crucial, Ten Hag announcement is expected any day now and as many as 10 players leaving, need at least five or six to come in.

Crucial indeed, so many changes seemingly needed. Whoever the manager turns out to be, moving so many players in and out, if they can get the players in and out they want, whilst trying to change the attitude and playing style of the team, is potentially something that will not be done quickly. Will the new chap be given the time! 🤔

All the ex Utd players in the media seemed very despondent tonight, as I think they know what needs to be done to turn things around.

I felt a bit for Rangnick biting his tongue after the game, and resisting laying into that team after that latest display. No doubt he shares some of the responsibility, but he can't make players have pride in their work and have a will to win, or at lest not give up.

Without wishing to piss all over Manchester United (but really quite enjoying doing so)... again?

Moyes basically played Ferguson's squad, plus Mata and Fellaini for £65m. The excuse was Ferguson was just so good he got more out of the players than Moyes did - and Moyes was sacked in April after 10 months, with only a Community Shield.

Van Gaal came in and brough seven new players (Shaw, Rojo, Di Maria, Blind, Herrera, Fosu-Mensah, Malinkovic-Savic) for £160m, ditching Ferdinand, Fletcher, Vidic, Evra, Kagawa, Macheda, Wellbeck, Keane... and finished fourth with no trophies.

Then he did the same again, with six new players (Darmian, Depay, Martial, Romero, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlein) for £80m. That got them the FA Cup... and Van Gaal the sack.

After that, it was The Special One. Season one, £150m spent on Pogba, Mhkitaryan and Bailly (plus Ibrahimovic on a free). Fifth place, Europa League win.

Second season, £150m spent on Lukaku, Lindelof, and Matic (and out with Wayne Rooney, Ibrahimovic, one-time next-big-thing Januzaj, and Mhkitaryan. Second place, but 19 points behind City and... no trophies.

Third season, Dalot and Fred for £70m (and Lee Grant, woo!)... sacked by Christmas, ending with no trophies and sixth place.

Then in came Solskjaer for a fifth reboot in seven seasons. £145m spent on Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James - plus Bruno Fernandes in the January window for another £50m. No trophies, and third - 33 points behind Liverpool.

2020 brought in another five players for £80m combined, including Alex Telles (who?), Donnie van der Beek, Cavani (free!), and one of several Traores - with Smalling and Sanchez (a January signing for Mourinho, swapped with Mhkitaryan) leaving (and Rojo going in February). No trophies and second (12 points behind City).

And what happened last summer? In come Ronaldo (free), Varane, and Jaden Sancho for a cool £100m combined. Sacked by November, no trophies and they'll be lucky to scrap seventh.

So far you've had a new manager who'll come in and stop the rot every 2.5 years, and a billion pounds (a literally billion actual pounds) spent in nine summers (just summers) on an average of four new players at a time. What you have to show for it is a Community Shield, an FA Cup, and a Europa League, and crushing embarrassment.

And you're doing the exact same thing again this summer - and you think this will work this time?

I mean, it really looks like United are broken from Woodward and up, but every time it's the manager and down that gets replaced.

What happened to the talent conveyor belt that churned out the Class of 92? Why are City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Southampton developing young, British talent at such a rate now that the only current Manchester United players in any of the current four Home Nations squads are Luke Shaw (Southampton), Harry the Donkey Maguire (Sheffield ******), and Scott MacTominay (actually Manchester United) - and what the hell happened to Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho?

I mean, don't get me wrong, I find it hilarious - and honestly 2nd-7th each season and three trophies a decade is more than most clubs could ever hope for, so the moaning about it all is just delicious - but after a decade of "we need a new manager and five new players, oh no it's all gone wrong again" you'd think the fans at least would want to try something else.

I had to double-check, and yep... Juan Mata is still there, presumably with a seat reserved specifically for him on the bench. He's really been wasted there over the last few years (still only 33 apparently!).

Had to have a look who Lee Grant was, 😲 and after you get past an actress (I remember her being very good in a Columbo episode ;)), apparently an ageing 3rd choice back up keeper. 🤔 Good reason for going under the radar.

Juan Mata is odd one, what is he doing, or not doing, to not be able to get into that Utd team! 😲

Congratulations to Fulham for gaining promotion to the Premier League. 👍 Again. 😉 Who would have thought Marco Silva would come back to the UK and be a success!

Liverpool are on the verge of buying one of Fulham's players, Fabio Carvalho, after missing out on him in the Winter transfer window. From the clips I have seen of him, he could be a very good one. 🙂 Even if he doesn't go straight into the team, though hopefully he will get chances quickly, learning off those around him should hopefully aid his development.

He was actually Wednesday's keeper for a while, and did a pretty decent job; I'd have no objection to him returning to Hillsborough at all, even though it's 10-15 years on now.

However, as I recall, Mourinho signed him to fit homegrown player rules. They could slap a(nother) British 'keeper into their squad (Henderson and Johnstone were out at the Pigs and the Baggies at the time) and he would have been decent backup for Romero in cup matches. Although as I recall he's played twice in the entire time he's been there...

What you have basically done there is some up United since Sir Alex retired 10 years ago, its been one disaster after the next!

Chelsea 2-4 Arsenal
Newcastle 1-0 Palace
Everton 1-1 Leicester
Man City 3-0 Brighton

Arsenal beat Chelsea in a thriller at Stamford Bridge, four goals in the first half with Nketiah and Smith Rowe scoring for Arsenal and two equalisers from Werner and Azpilicueta, Nketiah got his second to put Arsenal back in front then Azpilicueta pulled down Saka in the box to gift them a penalty which Saka then converted, Arsenal now level on points with Spurs in top four fight but Spurs stay fourth on GD. Stamford Bridge had quite a few empty seats due to their sanctions.

Brighton held firm in the first half but second half goals from Mahrez, Foden and Silva put City back on top, Richarlison got Everton equaliser in the 92nd minute which could be so crucial to them in the relegation fight, Almiron got Newcastle's goal and they have now hit the 40 point mark!

Brilliant news about Ten Hag, hopefully this is only the first step though. Massive summer ahead.

There was a bomb threat at Harry Maguire's house, Police and sniffer dogs were called, he lives there with his fiancee and their two young children!

Burnley beat Southampton 2-0 thanks to a great goal from Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins, There are now only a point off Everton but Everton have a game in hand, Burnley have drawn one and won one since Dyche's sacking.

United have so many problems, that changing the coach and a few players won't do much. In fact, they have so many players potentialy leaving, that 5 or 6 new ones won't even cover that. Then, the players who stay, have to fit in Ten Hag's style, which certainly won't be easy, as we saw with Rangnick.

Even if we assume that they make 6 great signings, they will only be able to build a good first team, and still have no decent bench options. Which means that they might be good on a game to game basis, but for the whole season, once injuries kick in and players hit bad form for a few games, things will go down. Plus, other teams will likely improve a lot until next season, so MU might be fighting for 5th place in the end. It will take several years for United to become competitive.

Right now, as things stand, there's a lot of dead weight in the first team, bench and reserves. Some of those spots could/should have been available for youngsters, which could very seriously have a chance to earn a spot in the first team, as Elanga did. It's not like Fred or McTominay for example, are irreplaceable.
