It is now Week 8 of the 2023 NFL season. To get you into the new week of action, allow me to share some of the upcoming matches this week:

* Can the Buffalo Bills hold down the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Thursday Night?

* NFC West meets NFC East when the Los Angeles Rams pay a visit to the Dallas Cowboys. Maybe the Dallas/Fort Worth area is still celebrating their Texas Rangers smashing my Houston Astros for the 2023 AL Pennant... :banghead: :(

* NFC North action happens between rival states, as the Minnesota Vikings will travel to the Frozen Tundra of the Green Bay Packers.

* Omnis's Miami Dolphins unfortunately lost at the Eagles. Can the Dolphins return to winning when the New England Patriots visit Miami?

* My Houston Texans will be at the Carolina Panthers in a battle of top NFL Draft Picks.

* It's the Battle for New York City! It is also a GTPlanet inner-forum rivalry. MetLife Stadium will be rocking when Blitz24's New York Jets and Jump_Ace's New York Giants clash to determine who is the better NYC team. Or at least, the better NYC team this season.

* The Seattle Seahawks took on one Ohio team and lost. Now the boys from Seattle will host the other Ohio NFL team- the Cleveland Browns.

* The Denver Broncos are seeking a big win when they host the Kansas City Chiefs.

* The Cincinnati Bengals will try to strike gold in California when they meet the San Francisco 49ers.

* Are the Chicago Bears ready for prime time? Well, we will see if they are when they visit the Los Angeles Chargers for Sunday Night Football.

* Get ready, Joey D... your Detroit Lions will host the Las Vegas Raiders in MoTown for Monday Night Football, as the Raiders continue their brief Midwestern tour.

* BYE WEEK TEAMS (Wk. 8): -none-

Of course, there are many other games to be played in Week 8. So cheer on your favorite team(s) and enjoy this week's games! Don't forget also the NFL Trade deadline is on Halloween. Maybe teams in need can unload or bring in talent to help their teams for the remainder of this season.

Here are a few random musings...

* When I was watching "First Things First" on FS1, Tom Brady was asked who he thinks his successor would be. Tom Brady said Patrick Mahomes would be his successor. That's pretty big praise.

* I checked my old Facebook posts today, and today is the anniversary that my Houston Texans lost to Omnis' Miami Dolphins. Now that may not sound like much, but since the team joined the league in 2002, the Houston Texans defeated the Miami Dolphins EVERY MEETING until today in 2015. Houston lost 44-26 in that game. Also, Arian Foster (I LOVED this guy...) had an Achilles injury that took him out. I think in team history, the Texans have NEVER defeated any Philadelphia team. Even the Houston Oilers (before becoming the Tennessee Titans) somehow couldn't defeat Philly. Maybe I'm wrong.

* One thing I meant to discuss was the possibility of an overseas Super Bowl. There has been talk about possibly having The Big Game to be played in the United Kingdom. We already have some regular season games in London and even Manchester as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars playing some of their games in England. Even my Houston Texans played a game in England once (we're undefeated in England! :D ). I could see a Super Bowl in London. If it did materialize, I'm guessing the time would be around Noon time on Sunday for it to be a 6:40 PM start in London.

Speaking of the Texans, here is an assessment.

The Houston Texans are 3-3 on the season, 2nd in the AFC South. Wins: at the Jaguars, vs. the Steelers, and vs. the Saints. Losses: at Ravens, vs. Colts, and at Falcons. The Texans are doing everything they can shock the NFL. You can call them as a trendy underdog to root for as they have this "shock the world" character. The Texans have adopted DeMeco Ryans' SWARM mentality. SWARM stands for "Special Work Ethic and Relentless Mindset." What is most surprising is how protected CJ Stroud is despite a banged-up offensive line.

CJ Stroud I am starting to love more and more not just as a player but as a human. CJ Stroud isn't as magical as when DeShaun Watson was with Houston, but he is getting better and better. ESPN notes Stroud has 1,660 yards of offense with nine touchdowns and a QBR of 51.5. Helping Stroud look good are offensive contributions by Nathaniel "Tank" Dell, Nico Collins, Dameon Pearce, and Robert Woods.

The defense has been alert and adept. Henry To'oTo'o leads the Texans in tackles with 45. Jonathan Greenard leads the team in sacks with 3.5 sacks on the season. The interceptions leader on Texans defense is Steven Nelson and his three picks.

The Houston Texans will resume their season this weekend at the Carolina Panthers. Hopefully our rebuild won't have to take longer than it needs to. I am otherwise still proud of my Houston Texans for this season.

Again, if you'd like to talk about how your team(s) is/are doing, go ahead. Otherwise, get ready for Thursday Night Football between Tampa Bay at Buffalo.

[OMISSION] Today (October 25) in 1964 is the anniversary of Minnesota Viking, Jim "Wrong Way" Marshall catching a fumbled ball and ran into to the end zone thinking it was a touchdown... only for it to be called a safety.

If you don't have any special plans, the National Football League wants to make this Thursday special. We got the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going up to upstate New York to take on the Buffalo Bills. Enjoy tonight's game if you'll be watching or following!

Get psyched for another Sunday of NFL Football! Be sure to root on your favorite team(s). Feel free to let us know how your beloved team(s) did this time around.

The Houston Texans took on the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, NC. Too many players had to leave the game for the Texans. The game was tight all game long, and it ended up being a 15-13 loss for the Texans. The Panthers are no longer winless. Despite this, the Texans flat out embarrassed the Panthers with all the hurries and sacks they put on Bryce Young. Defense kept us in it, offense didn't score enough to put away the Panthers. Texans ended up beating themselves, especially late.

UP NEXT: We host the only NFC South team we haven't taken on yet this season- the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I'm incredibly agitated, but that's football. Congratulations to all other winners on this week!

The Giants didn't lose, both teams did. That was the most pathetic game of football in a very long time.
You're not wrong! I'm crying not cause the Giants lost, but cause I watched the whole game.

Jerome

The Jets vs. Giants was the nobody wants to win bowl. I felt like Hackett was calling plays for both offenses. TBH it is offensive to team with offenses to call that putrid mess spewed out by both teams offense. There were 15 punts by both teams in the 1st half!
The Giants did their best Jets imitation by missing a FG with like 20 seconds left and then allowing the Jets to get 2 big pass plays and get a FG with no timeouts remaining. I never thought I would see somebody beat the Jets at their own game but the Giants did exactly that.
NY football is in a bad state right now😓

Ya I'm glad we weren't subjected to the Giants v. Jets game in Michigan. We were subjected to the Vikings v. Packers though and I genuinely feel bad for Kirk. I don't actively hate the Vikings like I do the Packers and the Viks were going to be the only real competition for the NFC North this year. I wanted the Lions to win it with a legit threat, not just stroll along.

Also, I really hope Denver manages to stay in the lead and beat the Cheifs because that would be just chef's kiss

There is not much funnier than the chiefs falling apart and Mahomes scrambling about like bambi on ice.

The Cheifs' schedule isn't particuarlly easy either. I mean the Dolphins, Eagles, Bills, and Bengals are all going to be difficult games for them assuming the refs don't bail them out. There's a very real possibility the Cheifs will need to actually put forth effort against the Chargers in their last game to win the division.

Also what's going on with the 49ers? I remember talk about them going 17-0 and now they've dropped three in a row and are sitting behind the Seahawks for the NFC West. Purdy is suddenly not looking like the fire QB everyone thought he was either.

It was 30-13 as the Los Angeles Chargers downed the visiting Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football. As for tonight...

Raiders at Lions TONIGHT!

The Raiders enter the Lions' Den to take on the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions.

--- INFORMATION ---
  • LV Raiders (3-4, 3rd in AFC West) at DET Lions (5-2, 1st in NFC North)
  • FAVORED: DET (-7.5)
  • OVER/UNDER: 46.5 points

That's right- Joey D's Lions are ready for prime time. We'll see if the Lions can stay hot, or if they'll be colder than the forecasted 46-degree Fahrenheit weather for tonight in Detroit.

Enjoy tonight's game if you'll be following/watching!

I am not gonna say Purdue has been exposed but that offense runs through Christian McCaffrey and teams have been slowing him down and forcing Purdue to beat him. So far he hasn't been able to do it. They are getting away from their identity as a team that plays complimentary football. They need to run the ball and play defense. Let Purdue play point guard and distribute the ball. Keep him under 30 attempts and they can win again

Other than a turnover in the red zone and missed field goal, the Bengals pretty much dominated them. It was fun to watch. Burrow looked great, and that calf has certainly healed up. His escape from multiple should-have-been sacks to convert on a 3rd and long was magical. And the defense was stifling. I think Logan Wilson may have the best hands of any LB in the league. He picked off his 3rd ball of the season and nearly had another earlier in the game.

Fun stat: Cincy handed Purdy the first home loss of his career.
Fun stat #2: Cincy's 4 wins have all come against the NFC West. That would be a sweep of the opposite conference's far away foes. What's even weirder is their baseball buddy Reds nearly swept the AL West this year, as well. While a technical "sweep" of every game didn't happen (having lost a total of two games), they did take each series. So it was sort of a sweep in a way.

The Honolulu Blue helmets look neat, but Lions are Lionsing right now. I still hate their grey unis. No contrast.

Yeah, love the blue helmets but it just looked a mess with the grey uniforms.

Ya, the Lions needed to wear all Honolulu Blue uniforms with those helmets.

Gibbs saw that blonde in the end zone and knew he had to get a TD. I'm all about the Lions' Den Leap though.

But otherwise, kind of a sloppy game from the offense, although the Reynolds fumble at the 2 yard line wasn't a fumble, he was down. Clete Blakeman is just the worst official in the entire league by a wide margin. But the red zone production in general was weak and it really show how much we're missing the Full Monty right now. Jamo is the new Eric Ebron and you can't change my mind on that, dude just can't hold balls. Goff needs our first string OL back since he folds like a wet blanket under pressure.

The defense was looking crisp and Anzalone is putting together an awesome season. Jack Campbell is still out there destroying QBs, although I think this time he tripped and ended up hitting Jimmy G low. I don't think he's targeting or anything, but he needs to slow his roll a bit so we don't get those 15 yard penalties.

The Raiders need a QB who isn't terrible, Jimmy G is atrocious in every sense of the word. Davante Adams needs to be traded like yesterday, that man does not deserve this. Max Crosby is really good too, but he reminds me of the kind of dude that would absolutely get stupid penalties. Calm him down a bit and he'd cook. I low-key want the Lions to trade for him today since that would make our D exceptionally good.

When Anzalone tripped and hit Jimmy G low, you just saw a quick snipet of his leg bending then the camera cut away to follow the ball but I got a bad feeling that was going to wreck his knee when they came back to him. Luckily his foot didn't stay planted in the turf or that would have been nasty.

Happy Halloween! :)

A LOT of stuff to get to for this post. First of all, congratulations to Joey D's Detroit Lions last night. Welcome to Week 9!

Let's begin with a Standings Update. Find your favorite team(s) here:

--- Standings Update (as of: October 31, 2023) ---
AFC EAST: Miami (6-2), BUF (5-3), NYJ (4-3), NE (2-6)
AFC NORTH: Baltimore (6-2), PIT and CLE and CIN (4-3 each)
AFC SOUTH: Jacksonville (6-2), HOU and TEN (3-4 each), IND (3-5)
AFC WEST: Kansas City (6-2), LAC (3-4), LV and DEN (3-5)

NFC EAST: Philadelphia (7-1), DAL (5-2), WAS (3-5), NYG (2-6)
NFC NORTH: Detroit (6-2), MIN (4-4), GB (2-5), CHI (2-6)
NFC SOUTH: Atlanta and New Orleans (4-4), TB (3-4), CAR (1-8)
NFC WEST: Seattle (5-2), SF (5-3), LAR (3-5), ARI (1-7)

So Philadelphia has the best record in the league, and Carolina got the worst record at 1-8.

Now let's talk about the Week 9 schedule. We had games in the United Kingdom, but this week... the NFL invades Germany. Don't get your hopes up about reviving NFL Europe. However, we do have one game to played in Frankfurt, Germany. Here are some of the games coming up this week:

* The Steel City will be rocking on Thursday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Tennessee Titans in Pittsburgh's lovely stadium.

* Gutentag, Germany! A possible AFC Championship preview will happen in Frankfurt as the AFC-East leading Miami Dolphins take on the AFC West leading Kansas City Chiefs. Or at least... one of these two teams could make the AFC Championship.

* Kirk Cousins is done for the season, but the Minnesota Vikings will have to make do without him when they travel down to the ATL to meet them Dirty Birds. The Atlanta Falcons look to escape Week 9 with the NFC South lead.

* After beating themselves last week after their Bye and allowing the Panthers to no longer be winless, the Houston Texans end their NFC South tour by hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game is to be played in Houston.

* ONE IN A ROW! The Carolina Panthers will try to win back-to-back games when the Indianapolis Colts come to Charlotte.

* Birds of different feathers and in different conferences clash. The Baltimore Ravens host the Seattle Seahawks in a battle of division leaders.

* Jump_Ace' New York Giants will try to tower over the Las Vegas Raiders in Vegas. Could this be as close as the Giants can get to Super Bowl LVIII?

* Classic NFC East rivalry takes place in Philadelphia as the Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys.

* Dolph Drago's Cincinnati Bengals will host the Buffalo Bills for Sunday Night Football. Bills at Bengals.

* Monday Night Football returns to MetLife Stadium in a battle of two glamour cities. The Los Angeles Chargers travel to the shadow of New York City to take on Blitz24's New York Jets.

I hope you're enjoying the 2023 NFL season. Enjoy this week's games!

G-Men coming to Vegas, eh? Tempting to go guy tix, but also, not tempting

If Jets plan on beating the SD LA Chargers they actually have to score touchdowns
While true, the Chargers have the incredible ability of shooting themselves in the foot as well, so seeing both teams flounder next week sounds accurate.

I can't take another week like last week. That was one of of the worst games I have ever seen and I have been a fan since Ken O'Brien was the QB.
I just hope Hackett doesn't run every single 1st down and tries some type of pass just to switch things up. He needs to move the pocket and scheme receivers open you things good offensive coordinators do.
If the defense can keep from doing dumb penalties and Hackett can actually come up with a good gameplan they have a chance

If the Jets didn't commit 3 personal fouls on the first Giants drive of the 2nd half, the game would have probably ended 10-6.
