America is the best nation in the world when it remembers to take its medication.
In the words of the great philosopher Kanye Omari West, "You ain't never seen nothing crazier than this [country] when he's off his Lexapro."

Elitist, or far left progressive ideals like open borders, pronouns, and the elimination of fossil fuels aren’t everyday working class American issues.
You're right, they aren't. But very few liberals and liberal politicians are that far left in America. Most only bring up the "culture war" because the conservatives are hellbent on making it a thing instead of just sticking to the principle of "let people live their life." As for open borders, the number of people who want them is small. Even the Biden administration didn't want an open border despite what Trump's campaign tried to paint it as. And fossil fuels? Very few are actually trying to ban them; they are, however, attempting to tackle climate change.

But working class Americans mostly care about the economy and being able to afford things. Why they voted for Trump, a politician who will wreck the economy and make things even more unaffordable, shows a severe lack of understanding of how the economy works. Even a quick Google search of the word "tariff" would be enough to show you that they're horrific for the economy. But nope, people decided to be willfully stupid and think that we're going to go back to the glory days of the 1950s when the US built everything. It doesn't work like that anymore and it certainly won't go that direction with tariffs.

Obviously there are going to be differences in turnout over four years, with differing incentives to participate and of course individuals aging into eligibility and out of participation, and so it's idiotic to expect that there won't be a change, but it's looking like it's not going to be that far off of four years ago.
One thing that isn't being talked about is that in 2020, it was almost universally mail-in voting. You didn't have to go anywhere to vote; the ballot just showed up in your mailbox. You then, at your leisure, could fill it out and return it. Not having to stand in hours-long lines to vote and doing it from the comfort of your living room is appealing, and it is probably appealing to nearly 20 million people. It's little wonder why Republicans don't want mail-in voting. It's not for security reasons or whatever other reason they state, it's because they would lose every single election.

Yep, people weren't paying attention. Some were in tune. Others thought it was just another regular Republican vs Democrat election.
Damn…these people either get their info from Fox News or from…what may have been true a few decades ago?

Some of the trolls that have been popping in here with their poo and smiley emojis, dropping a few vacuous comments, and leaving, are also under this false impression.

If you were under the impression that it was just another regular election, think how funny all of this would be. One can easily manage a dunning kruger mentality, thinking that they've been around long enough to realize that nothing ever changes in politics and that it doesn't matter that much. And these people think that since they endured the Biden admin, that now it's everyone else's turn to endure a Trump admin which will somehow be roughly the same kind of experience.

Think about how superior you'd feel popping in and saying "everything's going to be fine" or talking about pronouns or tariffs or tax policy, as if this election had anything to do with any of that crap or as if any of that crap actually matters at all.

Trump supporters never realized what was happening. They still don't. Some of them never will. There are people in Russia that still don't understand what has happened there either.

You misunderstood that sentiment entirely.

Your lecture to me, as if I didn't already know, is not responsive to the sentiment I was expressing. I am well aware that there are worse countries than America (still, despite recent developments). I'm aware because I have been looking at them intently for the past few years.

America is worse for the people you're talking about than me, not better. I'm in just about the most favored group in the US. It's worse for just about everyone than it is for me. If I think it's bad for me, I think it's still worse for them.

Prior to tuesday, on balance, there were no countries I'd rather live in than America. After tuesday, on balance, that is no longer true. The US has been looking crappier and crappier over the last decade, mostly because of uninformed people who think "everything is going to be fine" when they vote for it not to be. But tuesday it took a major dive in my estimation.

If you'd think anyone would be happy it would be me. I'm a rich white guy, and the Trump administration is not likely to pick on me. In fact, the Trump administration policies are likely to favor me, if they're going to favor anyone. And yet, there are certain things that I care about a lot more than enriching myself. Like freedom of speech, like for my daughters to have rights over their bodies and not to be treated as second class citizens in hospitals and courtrooms. Like representative government. Like trust in law enforcement. Like for my kids to attend a school where they're not practicing by hiding in a closet from expected shooters. Like the ability to live in a country where I don't have to observe persecution by my government, even if I am not myself persecuted.

There are countries that manage all of that better than the US.
Just maybe you might change your mind on some of your richa** opinions when your little girls grow up and abort everyone of your grandchildren.

The whole thing reminded me of the Brexit vote a few years back. I have yet to see convincing evidence that the UK is on a better track than it was before - of course, I only read some news stuff, never lived there, so I'm more in the dark really.

Just maybe you might change your mind on some of your richa** opinions when your little girls grow up and abort everyone of your grandchildren.
"My" grandchildren.

They don't owe me grandchildren. And their bodies do not belong to me. I do not care how many embryos or fetuses my daughters abort, and frankly it's not my business. It's not yours either.

Javier Flores, a 23-year-old undocumented immigrant from Puebla, Mexico, who’s lived in Castle Hill for four years while working as a butcher, said that “I couldn’t vote but if I could, I would choose him.”

“They should remove everyone who isn’t supposed to be here — the bad people,” Flores told THE CITY in Spanish. “The people who have a bad record, you know, who have a criminal history.”

The barber & son are the two morons who tried to cite they were paying $15,000/month & it was really an error.

Good lord. Reading their rational for voting for Trump they have no clue. They are some of the most misinformed, unintelligent comments I've read for some time. They have no understanding as to how economics work yet they are basing their vote on misinformation from right wing media. I absolutely love the comment for the one guy that states "don't know Trump from a hole in a wall but heard he was good with economics" I would LMAO if it wasn't so sad.

Then again, I have double majors in engineering and economics so I guess that makes me the elite and out of touch with ignorant people. They make me ashamed to call myself an immigrant. They make immigrants look stupid.

I find that a bit offensive. You should have said "when your little birth biology female gender offspring grow up and abort everyone of your grandchildren. "

Say, what's your blood type? My liver's doing okay right now but in the event that it does become pickled with booze, I may want to come for yours...forcefully if necessary. If you don't respect the individual sovereignty and consent of others, why should anyone respect yours?

Sticking to a principle requires it being a sincere principle to begin with.

This is the conservative baseline...

Because everyone was on the same page regarding the basic tenets that we collectively held dear.
...and it requires force of law to ensure that those tenets are preserved, only giving an inch when holding fast becomes untenable, and then giving up as little as possible. Okay the negros are no longer property but they can't own land or vote...okay they can own land and vote but women can't...okay fine voting for all but the negros can't marry whites...okay fine negros and whites can marry but no gays, in fact no gay fornication...okay fine they can bone but they still can't marry...ugh fine you win. I guess that's incrementalism?

According to our Daily Torygraph Trump appears to have cold feet regarding appointing a roadkill eating antivaxx beardumper as Reichminister for health. Perhaps that unfluoridated water supply may not be on the cards after all.

Trump doesn't need anyone for anything anymore. He can leave RFK on the roadside, and tell musk to jump off. He has what he needs, there is no need to repay anyone. And Trump is pretty bad at repaying people once he's gotten his.

There are so many people that think they can use Trump. And all of them end up getting used.

I find it quite odd that so many Trump supporters keep going on and on and on about abortions....Aren't there anything better for y'all to worry about other than women having abortions? Why do you care so much about what someone else is doing with their life when it has absolutely nothing to do with you? Do you also care as much about all the kids that are suffering and dying because because of abject poverty or their parents can't take care of them or they are left completely to fend for themselves? If so, what have you done to help them? School shootings are a real problem in the US. How many of those have happened so far this year? Why don't y'all worry about how to stop that from happening instead? For real, this really baffles me 🤦‍♂️

Also if abortion is such a sore spot for you, here's an idea, go to your elected officials, you know the new ones y'all just voted in and push them to pass a law that says "if a woman goes to a clinic to get an abortion that is not as a result of some medical emergency, the man who got that woman pregnant will be severely punished. The punishment is nothing less than total castration". After all, if women are getting abortions, it's likely because they didn't want to get pregnant to begin with and they can't get pregnant by themselves, can they? Since the men played a part in that, the women shouldn't be the only ones paying the price for that. I reckon that should solve some of the abortions issues that Trump supporters seems to struggle with so much.

Yes. People not voting rationally is the reason Trump won.
Which is illustrated by that image, how exactly?
That's fine. You were just lecturing people about not being informed or acting rationally and when you had the chance you didn't vote for success.

I don't care whether the media or the democratic party blames you. You'll have to live with this one forever. When you had the chance, you chose not to help. Not America, not Ukraine, not Palestinians. You chose to help Trump.
No. I did not have the chance to help Harris win. I did not have the chance to help the Democratic party win. A lot of that opportunity was taken away from me when the DNC decided not to hold a meaningful primary.

Now, more than ever, the Democratic party needs to change. I had the chance, and that's what I voted for. Because I want them to be strong enough to win outside of solid blue states. I chose to help the Democratic party figure out what's wrong with them. It's on them to get the message.

Your message to the Democratic party appears to be "You were just unlucky because of the economy, don't bother trying to learn from this"

I'm curious, who did you vote for in the primaries?
Rationalize all you want. And I will bring it up any time you lecture people how to vote rationally.
Feel free to continue to avoid engaging with the reasons for her failure.

Democrats have been lecturing for years that it's too risky to have a progressive candidate or platform, that every election is more important than the last, and therefore we can't afford to change strategy or push for popular policies. That even voting for a progressive in the primaries is too damaging to the cause. That courting republicans is the only way to win. And then they lose. Biden even won on a more progressive platform than Hillary had, and apparently they took this as a sign to turn the other way?

Centrist Democrats have been at the wheel for ages, and they do not know how to drive. They need a lecture, desperately. They are all too happy to give one, but apparently unwilling to receive.

Elitist, or far left progressive ideals like open borders, pronouns, and the elimination of fossil fuels aren’t everyday working class American issues.
These are social issues, and are harder to run on. But there are everyday Americans who are immigrants, or LGBT, or living in areas affected by climate change. And average Americans should care about those people, even if they aren't themselves part of those groups.

Where progressives could make more inroads is economic policy. People suffering with medical bills, high food costs, low wages, etc. want to know what the government can do for them. And progressive policies on these issues are generally popular. Effective communication would help here. All most people think about is higher taxes—there needs to be clarity on how these things are paid for and how they directly benefit people. And not just the poorest Americans, but everyone.

Part of the problem is that for years Democrats have been joining the Republicans in condemning progressive policies as extreme, expensive, and unnecessary. Shooting themselves in the foot, essentially.

If the implication is supposed to be that the people who were fooled into voting third party or abstaining out of solidarity with Palestine (and yes, fooled is absolutely the correct term because all of the people who did were played just as thoroughly by the same damn person as the people who were convinced tariffs were going to fix everything) are in the clear just because the media hasn't yet stopped pointing fingers at Harris and (increasingly) Biden after three days, I've got some bad news for you for once they pick up on what's already happening to people who mentioned doing so before the election.
Sorry, who was I fooled by? I was listening to Palestinians, among others, not Trump (is that the implication?). Something Harris was apparently unwilling to do.

How many votes do you think Harris earned by refusing to allow a Palestinian American to speak at the DNC? That wouldn't have required Harris to commit to ending weapons shipments or anything, as far as I know.

And you missed the point about the media. The point is that neither the media nor the Harris campaign itself has speculated about a spoiler effect, while both bring up potential strategic mistakes of courting certain voters at the expense of other groups. Notably different from 2016.
Unless you think miraculously you won't be a punching bag for it for years to come like people who openly promoted Nader or Johnson still are.
Oh god, I've made a huge mistake! I should have based my decisions on what would make people like me!

Which is illustrated by that image, how exactly?
Didn't say it was.
No. I did not have the chance to help Harris win. I did not have the chance to help the Democratic party win. A lot of that opportunity was taken away from me when the DNC decided not to hold a meaningful primary.
Nonsense. Voting for Harris helps her win. Even if she carried your state without you and you expected her too, it still helps her win. Not voting for her helps Trump win.
Now, more than ever, the Democratic party needs to change.
No. You still don't get it. It's over. There is no change.
I had the chance, and that's what I voted for. Because I want them to be strong enough to win outside of solid blue states. I chose to help the Democratic party figure out what's wrong with them. It's on them to get the message.
When faced with evil, you played games.
Your message to the Democratic party appears to be "You were just unlucky because of the economy, don't bother trying to learn from this"
Still playing games. I'm not trying to send messages to the party. It was just so critically important that Trump be stopped.
I'm curious, who did you vote for in the primaries?
Haley
Feel free to continue to avoid engaging with the reasons for her failure.
The reasons for her failure are that people wanted the authoritarian douche to win. I have never witnessed a bigger s*** show or dumpster fire than was the Trump campaign. It was horrific, from one end to the other - easily mistaken for someone who actively does not want to win. He won because people love an asshole as long as he's their asshole.

He's your asshole now.
Biden won because Trump was god damned awful. Trump won because people have VERY short memories and think assholes make good leaders.
Centrist Democrats have been at the wheel for ages, and they do not know how to drive. They need a lecture, desperately. They are all too happy to give one, but apparently unwilling to receive.
You think knowing how to drive is the winning recipe? I'd be surprised if Trump can even drive literally, let alone metaphorically. In other words, knowing how to drive (metaphorically) has nothing to do with winning. Nothing at all. The most incompetent president ever just got elected.
These are social issues, and are harder to run on. But there are everyday Americans who are immigrants, or LGBT, or living in areas affected by climate change. And average Americans should care about those people, even if they aren't themselves part of those groups.
...and stop Trump, who hates them.
And not just the poorest Americans, but everyone.
it's like you didn't see any campaign ads somehow.
Part of the problem is that for years Democrats have been joining the Republicans in condemning progressive policies as extreme, expensive, and unnecessary. Shooting themselves in the foot, essentially.
Yes.... the progressive agenda is so popular that the guy with the gold toilet who sells 100k watches won the election. Is this post some kind of joke? You can't be serious with this nonsense.
Sorry, who was I fooled by? I was listening to Palestinians, among others, not Trump (is that the implication?). Something Harris was apparently unwilling to do.
Maybe you should have listened to Trump instead. You might have realized what was going on then.
How many votes do you think Harris earned by refusing to allow a Palestinian American to speak at the DNC?
Who gives a RATS ASS who spoke at the DNC??? Jesus tapdancing, the wheels just came off of society and you're worried about whether someone gave a speech? I'm going to stop right here before I say something I regret. This is reprehensible.

It's not rational. It's about feelings, specifically desire. You can't tell a child molester to tolerate a smaller victim pool.

We're not even a week out & the leopard is already looking nicely fed.
Let's hope it doesn't require anthelmintic medication after its meal after ingesting a parasite.
Especially if it develops a taste for muskrat.
