It's interesting that these two aren't equivalent though.

Anyone besides him will do vs. Nobody but him will do

One of those positions is way more reasonable than the other. The "nobody but him will do" crowd doesn't care what dear leader does, or anyone else does, they're already dug 6 feet in.
You're absolutely correct that they are not equivalent to a reasonable person. But Trump supporters are not reasonable people. They may - and most often do - think they are, but they are not. Arguing with a Trump supporter immediately devolves to them effectively saying "I know you are, but what am I?" but not in those words. As soon as you make any criticism of him, they start screaming "TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME!" and accuse you of being brainwashed...

But it's still better to avoid playing into their false equivalency, because that just proves them even righter in their own minds.

I think that's the reason why Dems should and hopefully do concentrate their efforts on trying to convince non-cultists by being as truthful as they can. It shouldn't matter whether MAGAs are a lost cause or not if they don't make up a majority of voters in any given constituency.

Some folks are pointing out that Trump doesn't seem to be trying very hard to win. Some are even saying they think he might want to lose (I remember hearing this in 2016 and 2020). I think it's evidence that he has a backup plan.

He said in 2020 that you'll need the conservative supreme court to decide the election, right before he sent a mob to kill the rest of the US government. I'm sure the supreme court is still on his mind.

His backup plan is probably to do what he did in 2020. However, this time, he may have enough support through a compromised voting official system.

I see Vance may have been using a burner here to argue for Trump, apparently, based on how he avoids answering questions.

He kept not answering the question until he stupidly gave the answer to the question based on his rhetoric.

Donny with a big brain moment
There is a not-insignificant sect of white Americans who think black Americans want to be enslaved. This sect is convinced that it brought more order and safety and purpose to their lives, as opposed to living on welfare, which of course they all do, and apparently they all know this in their hearts but don't dare speak of it out of place.

"Yeah, but but Democrats are the party of slavery..."

More forked tongue.

Trump is in Aurora CO talking about what a cesspool he thinks it is. It's not far from me, maybe 40 minutes drive. Aurora is a very mixed community with some upscale developments and some poor areas. We didn't need or want Trump to come here, he's not helping, it's not a problem, I'm sure we'd all be better of if he just went away.

I haven't spent a ton of time in Aurora, but I have a few friends there, and I've met with them in the area to do various things. Parts of it are nice, parts of it are a little under served. It's not over run with crime or migrants. I don't think Trump's lies about it are going to help the city at all, and I hate that we have our own little springfield ohio of lies right near me.

Please tell me we can rid ourselves of the orange liar.

Pulled a similar statement in Detroit. "If she wins, the rest of the country will look like Detroit".

But, it's not surprising. The "most American" dude ever just runs a campaign on how **** America is everywhere & only he can save it and the world.

"If she wins, the rest of the country will look like Detroit".
So that means the rest of the country is going to have good sports teams, excellent pizza, proper coney dogs, fantastic museums, a RoboCop statue, and a robust car culture?

Only Boomer idiots still think Detroit is a hell hole. Compared to even ten years ago, Detroit has come a long way. It used to be number one in everything you didn't want to be number one in. Now it's moving down the list. The city still has issues, but it's moving in the right direction. As our sports teams do better and draw people down to Detroit, fewer crimes happen because the people there don't want to bite the hand that feeds them. White people from the suburbs coming to pay $50 on parking, hundreds on food and alcohol, and then blow thousands in the casinos is what you want and those people won't come if they feel like they're going to be murdered.

The best example is the latest NFL Draft. They had zero issues and drew 775k people to the city to boo Roger Goodell. If Detroit was the hell-hole boomer idiots think it is, then the draft would've looked more like the Kansas City Super Bowl parade.

I mean, in a way I get it. People who remember Detroit in the 60s and see it today notice the glaring differences. The riots of '67 kind of cemented the idea in older people's heads that Detroit is terrible. Even those of us in our 30s remember when Detroit had an actual murderer for a mayor. But if you look at where the city was and where it's going, it's hard not to get excited about Detroit's rebirth.

Trump's comments played right into the hands of the middle-class, white, suburbanites who think all blacks in the city of Detroit will straight-up kill them.

Detroit Hustles Harder.

Even as someone living in CT, I've heard about how Detroit is making a comeback, like with how Ford put a ton of money into restoring a local metro station, or something like that. You've actually convinced me to maybe visit the city sometime, especially since I have a cousin that's moved to nearby Ann Arbor.

It's like a lot of "big suburbs" attached to "big city", nice here, older there, fancy neighborhoods, big boxes lining the three-digit-interstate, wide roads and sidewalks, the usual plethora of dealerships, fast food, and a mix of retail from that dry cleaning store that looks like it's closed for forty years but isn't, and that check cashing store which has changed names a dozen times.

More dispensaries and Ethiopian food than the rest of the country, that's for certain. 45's just angling to bitch about immigration of dark people and get the folks bussed in from Greely and Loveland to cheer him on and blame the folks in Golden and Boulder for their "woes". I guess he can't complain about California and Chicago forever.

Now I want Ethiopian food again.

So watch out, Utica! Detroit is a city on the... grow.

Couldn't resist. It's nice to see someone so passionately defensive about a city that's had some rough times being used for dog whistles.

If rhetoric like this doesn't worry you, your country is as good as lost.

We are now known, all throughout the world, as OCCUPIED AMERICA...But to everyone here in Colorado and all across our nation, I make you this vow: November 5th, 2024 will be LIBERATION DAY in America. I will rescue Aurora and every town that has been invaded and conquered—and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail or kick them the hell OUT OF OUR COUNTRY.

In honor of Jocelyn Nungaray, Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and all of the others that are dead and mortally wounded at the hands of migrants who should never have been allowed into our Country, I am announcing today that upon taking office, we will have an OPERATION AURORA at the Federal Level. To expedite removals of this savage gang, I will invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to target and dismantle every migrant criminal network operating on American Soil.

No person who has inflicted the violence and terror that Kamala Harris has inflicted on this community can EVER be allowed to become President of the United States!

I actually know a guy who was at the rally who lives in Aurora. I'm friends with a relative of his, and we all met up at his place around Christmas time for gingerbread decorations for the kids, in the time before Trump became such an issue. He has an upscale house with a big yard in a quiet suburb. He has a sports car and a grill and a big TV in a multi-level house with lots of bedrooms and the obligatory plush toilet seat cover. It's what a lot of people would call "the american dream". He's near a wide freeway, a million chain restaurants, costco, grocery stores, good schools. It's of the nice parts of Aurora, and I think most people in the US would be jealous to live there. He has lots of money and lives a pretty posh existence.

He lives in not the only nice part of Aurora. It's not the same upscale neighborhood that my other friends live in. That part is newer, with close together homes. Here's a shot of it:

STAPLETON-REAL-ESTATE.jpeg

This is stapleton, which I think has been renamed central park, and part of it is in Aurora. Imagine living in this hellhole right?

The thing is, this development was added right next to an older part of Aurora, which has a more rundown and higher crime region. It has been that way for a very long time, and the stapleton development was part of the gentrification of this area. Incidentally, you can actually see why it was run down right in that shot. The tower is from an old airport, so the noise pollution used to be severe. It's not an airport anymore, now it's a nice neighborhood, giving the rest of the town an opportunity to improve without the noise.

Recently, two apartment complexes that were left to rot in aurora, with mold, wiring, and vermin issues, started to become home to very poor people, including people who have arrived here from abroad. These two complexes were owned by the same landlords, and the residents started complaining about gang activity in these buildings and in protest over the poor conditions, refused to pay rent. The right wing media jumped on this and declared that immigrants had taken over two buildings, denied rent to the landlords, and established gang ownership. The city said it's not true, that that gang arrests had already been made, and that the landlords had been notified that they needed to clean up the buildings or that occupancy would be denied altogether. This did not stop Trump from showing up.

So, as a result. The guy that is the relative of a friend of mine, who my kids spent part of their Christmas with years ago, got in his sports car from his fancy neighborhood and went to a rally to cheer on the guy saying that HIS CITY is a hellhole that nobody should live in. This guy lives in such an enviable part of the country in Aurora, and he's cheering on the guy lying that it's a cesspool because he heard a story about a couple of apartment complexes owned by slumlords in a part of Aurora that he never visits or probably even drives through.

It's sheer madness.

This is the pair of complexes that caused all this:
