Explanation on Joker laps:
In the race, each team gets ten “joker laps”, where their car can exceed the minimum reference lap established prior to the start. With penalties of increasing severity being issued for violations, it adds an an extra layer of strategy to the race.

While the system, similar to bracket racing in drag racing, has received mixed reviews from drivers, it’s enforced to help keep amateur drivers and teams in contention. Proof of that came last year, when the all-gentlemen driver lineup from AF Corse finished second overall.

Cracks me up that the guy knocking the fire off the car is just wearing a short-sleeved shirt. No firesuit required for the pit crew here, apparently.

That doesn't make any sense. So you can just get a really fast car and say "we can run really quick", and run away with the race? It doesn't seem like there's a lot of balance within some of the classes looking at the lap time differences.

cars are balanced with ballast, fuel capacity etc. And I think the top class are all GT3 cars so they are fairly close.

The lower classes though you get pretty much everything.

Does seem a bit crazy. Jordan also gets sent off in the car just after they put the fire out. Hopefully the brakes don't go on fire again.

It's just build up of rubber or something. Small brake fires are fairly common in racing. This is nothing new.

Is it ferrous brake disk, EOM like allowed, or is carbon for some car´s categories? The SLS has a beautiful disk glow...
Also, the Nissan is not a realiable car, the drawback from the RJN this is this 307... poor guys... ( I am not a nissan guy... )

I've never followed that type of race (Le Mans, 24 hrs) so I'm a bit confused. Why they say "44th overall, 5th in class"?

How the drivers management is done? They have a lap limit or something?

There are multiple "classes" on the track. The GT Academy 370Z is in the SP2 class. So they are (now) 43rd out of 70 cars, and 4th in the SP2 class.

Edit: SP2 class leading Viper is being towed to pit road!

So basically, there are "two races" in one...

A class-one, and a overall-one, that's pretty interesting!

Gotta be pretty hard for a "low class" car to get a "overall win"...

It takes a lot of luck, pretty rare. But they're still fighting just as hard to win their class(and possibly beat some similar classes). No sense worrying too much about not being able to beat a far superior car.

Actually they're 5th in class.

27th - Car 103 - Renault Megane - 226 laps
32nd - Car 110 - Corvette - 224 laps
35th - Car 101 - Viper - 222 laps
38th - Car 27 - Mustang - 217 laps
40th - Car 100 - 370Z - 216 laps

I know and the the 370 and Mustang keep fighting for position. But, as the presenters have said, the Megane, Corvette and Viper have all had issues. the GT Academy team has had a few issues but they're still 5th in class. So...and in a 24Hour race, it's not over until it's over. Heck in the 24 Hours of LeMans, they average about 50% of the cars finishing. So, anything can happen.

They are now, because Jordan just pitted to hand over to Bryan.

Something odd is going on at the moment - I'm not watching a feed, but the live timings are showing green flag conditions but everyone running well over 3 minute laps for the last ten minutes. They've just started going quicker now - and Bryan took nearly a minute off the Mustang. The Viper's had a horrible time too, with a 26 minute stop - the Megane is walking this class at the moment, but they're all just one bit of trouble apart.

There was a short code 60.

A Porsche which may have run out of fuel given that it had been out 1 hour 45 minutes at the time.
