Whilst this is true pretty much every single rumour and 'leak' suggests that they are dropping the CELL processor for PS4. I know rumours are just rumours but usually when they all say roughly the same thing they're usually correct.

If it is correct and they are moving back to a traditional x86 processor that means not one single line of code from GT5 will work on PS4. The cars and tracks and everything like that will be ok, they're just 3D models, but all the code, the backend, will have to be done from scratch.

There are also a couple of rumors of Sony advancing the cell processor for several, "future" hardwares, but yeah, most of them do mention the X86, which personally, I'm not hoping for.

Still, releasing it for ps3 means that they have to focus alot on ps3 DLC. PS4 comes out people will want to switch. If say Turn 10 (or perhaps Codemasters or SimBin) decides to develop a PS4 racingsimulator and it turns out to be good. Well good bye PD, catching upp will take some time. If they go away from cell cpu then other developers can have easier job releasing a good racingsim. And if they go for a X86 cpu PD will have to put all effort on GT6 for PS4, just a simple conversion wont do it. I still belive there is a chance for another major update for GT5 before the game is finished and a DLC or two with that. This gives PD a little extra money and time to fix GT6.

Why would they have to focus on dlc?

That's good news innit? Could do with starting from scratch. Especially that bloody AI code. Lol.

It'll be better if GT6 was compatible for both PS3 and PS Vita. Buy it on the PS3 and you get GT6 free for the Vita. I actually like that idea. The PS4, highly not so much...

What, like they did for PS3/360 you mean? Lest you forget PD already played catch up this generation and PD were hardly finished, were they?

I like your thinking Toko. Making or part of CrossBuy would be great and a smart move.

Why would they have to focus on dlc?

I'm thinking so because they would need to support it like they did with GT5. Cars, tracks, patches, Seasonals
If not then my guess is that players will get really dissapointed.

If PD want to take a nice jump into what is a new way of making business is to give GT6 (or 7) for free. That will be the gamebase with couple of cars that have seen the best days. After that players will need to buy the cars they want (think of applestore free games and ingame buying after you start playing). I dont want 1000 cars, i want 10-20 cars that i really like and for me that is enough.
On the other incomeside i bet PD can get money from carcompanies that want us to testdrive their cars for free...we get all regular cars for free as promo from carcompanies instead. The base of the game should allow many carusers and a good base for marketing to the right audience. Racingcars and other more exotic carpacks will cost. And for human drama: Make it a bit like pokerlobbys, we can play for real money or other ingame value. Timeattacks to start with would be fun. Top 3 get the money. Perhaps a bit to much i know :)

Sounds like free to play MMO's.

GT4 had none of that. People did not get disappointed. They supported GT5 like they did because they had to, it was unfinished. A finished game would not need the same work. Your logic is flawed.

You know the one thing I really don't like people saying once PS4 comes out everyone will switch.

I don't think people realized how long it took most people to switch from PS2 to PS3 I didn't switch until just 3 years ago this Christmas.

Not only that people adapted to the PS3 so late compared to PS2 last time around that the eagerness to switch I feel won't be that high.

I mean sure graphics are going to get better, but with the way games like Far Cry 3 looked it's like "How much better."

Perhaps it is, still i dont see people wanting to wait another 2 years to let the game get finished. So was it better to release GT5 as it was or wait another 2 years? Still it was bigger and better than GT4. And as a positive effect people could actually influence some parts of the game to get better. Would GT6 be the perfect version GT5 wanted to be? No need for patches and DLC?
All on the internet will be happy, GTplanet would swell with "IM SO HAPPY GT6 IS HERE" or would we still post about "10 THINGS YOU WISH GT6 HAD"

GT5 bigger and better than GT4? I don't think so. Certainly not bigger, factually speaking.

People will always want something extra even if you got 200 tracks and 5000 cars, there would be tracks and cars missing that people wanted, it's only natural. However the more we are given the less likely we are to want more.

There is a difference however between wanting more but still being happy with what you do have compared to wanting more because you just don't have enough. If I owned 5 supercars in real life I'd probably want a sixth one, and a seventh one, I'd still be very happy with the five I already have though. If I didn't have a supercar at all though my desire for one would be much greater.

Yeah, but nowdays people actually switch alot faster. The technology is more mature now. Internet, bluray, LCD Tv's are in place. Just see things like Ipad, 2.5 years ago the segment didnt exist. Smartphones, ultrabooks...
Its cheaper too (based on inflation). So i see things go alot faster this time.
The question is more, will the PS4 offer something more than say Xbox "720" (or what its gonna be called). The change from PS to Xbox may be easier this time especially if it is released before the PS4. And smartphones/ipads are taking over as portable gamemachines, who thought that would be the case 3 years ago.

What is it that they switch faster?

The ps3 and xbox 360 are cheaper now so obviously they can.

Aside from that what are you basing this quick switching on?

I don't really get why people think a PS3 couldn't handle GT6, depends on what you expect.
I don't expect a big graphical leap or one at all actually, just that all tracks and cars look as good as the best current ones (meaning Premium or recent current gen content which looks pretty damn fine to me) which boils down to content included, you can already race 16 Premium cars online on the best looking (Premium) tracks (which is all you can ask for on the current gen and is frankly more than enough right now).
All the other issues which are problematic are mostly PD's own design decisions and have nothing to do with the hardware it's running on.
If GT6 has a more solid game structure and only Premium content then I see no reason why it couldn't work on a PS3 as the best content GT5 has to offer already works on a PS3.
Now I'd rather have that very soon on my current gen console and can happily wait for a few years to be completely blown away to see it again in lifelike detail on the next gen.

Switching to new technology or upgrading.
So thats what goes faster.

Switch with mobile phones is pretty simple cause if you're under a 2 year contract it's like you'll upgrade anyway. Plus to add it doesn't cost that much either $100 compared to $300-$600(hopefully not that high again).

Gaming is a little different though at least to me it is I switched from PS1/N64 to PS2/Xbox/GC because for one I had played enough PS1 games to do so.

Same thing with Ps2 to PS3 had enough of PS2(Plus it died on me(sad day :())

Thing with the PS3 to PS4 I adapted pretty late like I said 2009 and honestly it was only last christmas I got to play Uncharted 2 so you can only guess how big the backlog of games I want is.

Plus again with the games like Far Cry 3 and GTA V coming out looking as good as they do, and even the sports games as well it's like why switch yet?

The only way I know it's time to change is when the sports games start showing up in Craptastic quality like College Hoops 2K7/2K8 on Ps2 were okay, but I knew by then it was time for an upgrade especially considering the differences.

Still though to sum it all up I don't think people will switch as fast as you hope it will probably end up being as bad as what happened this time around. A lot of people were still on PS2, and not only that some are still there now, and have yet to change over lol.

But the only gaming tech to date for switching is the xbox 360 and ps3.

Its a bit early to state it wont be as long to switch.

Well, as Wii U gets out it will be a hard competitor. It seems to have more power than PS3/Xbox and what ive seen gamewise it looks good. So who knows, GT 6 on Nintendo next :nervous:
Since it has at least twice the amount of memory (which was biggest issue for Kaz if i remember right, that PS3 only had 512MB) it might be interresting to see if racingsims can be a fact on Nintendo.

On history. Each tech is getting faster to the masses. Tv to colour tv to satellite to LCD and so on. Each tech takes shorter time to reach masses. Think of Phone to portable (carphone) to cellular to a full smartphone. Smartphones (with Apple) took just a couple of years. Now its android, who knew what Android was 3 years ago? Ipad, what was Ipad 3 years ago? The list is long. What i want to say is that tech is moving on and we are happy to use it. Search the web, there are graphs and research on this subject.

Off topic: It was rumored that Nintendo is making thier own EXCLUSIVE sim racer. Hope it's true. But it's just a rumor that was heard around.

You cant use cell phones as an example most are on a plan where you pay off the unit over a 2 year period so there is no need for the customer to have the money.

Also you dont take into consideration that people might not be ready for a new console.

I will agree that hi def tvs and such are moved alot more quickly but for consoles its something thats very hard to predict.

Edit: Toko I heard that too not sure how it would go nintendo are great on arcade racers but a sim? Remains to be seen.

Again though we're talking about phones here you know in 2 years time you're going to upgrade/hold off for a bit more depending on the situation.

With gaming consoles their like Washer/Dyers and other Appliances you don't go out and buy one just because. Maybe this is toooo extreme, but you get my point.

With certain tech yes you're right people will switch, but not as quick as you might think like I said from SNES to PS1 or N64 okay we had a reason to switch. Same thing with PS1 to PS2 there was a reason.

Although there was a reason to go from PS2 to PS3 Sony messed that up with a $600 price tag, and also something else they didn't realize that people actually got attached to the darn thing(PS2).

Now from PS3 to PS4 honestly I don't care what'cha say you can give me "WELL THE GRAPHICS ARE GOING TO BE EPICLY BETTER!" or some crappy line like that, but as far as I'm concerned I'm good with the PS3 for quite some time actually. Because although at first I wasn't happy with it I've grown attached to it just like my PS2, and the backlog I've got of games I want to play and beat of course. Like Heavenly Sword just to name at least one.

Does anyone else think they may just make a GT6 prologue on PS3 then switch the full game to PS4 just to tease us into buying the next console?

You figure it was how many years after prologue before GT5 final was released, if they do this again it will be nearly 10 years of PS3 or; release GT6 prologue for PS3 then release the finalized game on release of PS4. Sounds like a marketing scheme to me..

They'll dump PS3 support once PS4 is out anyway, so it would be less likely for DLCs on GT6 if they release it on this slowly outdating console we have now.
