first post here. just found the site. have had GT4 since Feb 2005.
the first thing i did when i got GT4 was get all golds on all 80 licenses and all 5 coffee breaks.
so could you add me to the list?

Uncle Harry
Gumpy,
I did the A graduation (RX7 at the nurb)test with a DS2 and got gold.
I had problems when using manual to get gold. Got it very quickly when using automatic transmission.
Same problems with the M5 BMW test at the nurb. Struggled with manual for about 1 hour and then got it third go using Auto.

The problem with 80 tests is remembering all the numbers for them!
I did it with Manual. It is harder, yes, but i find it is easire to control speed in some places. It is also really rewarding. I managed to get 53.0XXsec. (the gold time was 53.700, right?)

i have 74 golds... i know i won't hit 80 cuz of the grand canyon super license, and the chimonix
I SUCK at rallying, but I managed to gold that one. (the wall might just be the answer for rally noobs like me...👍 :sly: )

Finally all 80 gold, did S16 in a nice time :dopey:

Well just got up to 70 Silver and 10 Golds, next step is All golds.

Thankfully I don't have to do Chamonix and Nurburgring on Special.

May I be added to the list??? If you check my profile I managed to finally get all Gold medals for the licenses :)

Took me over a year to do :dunce:  it but I finally golded them all 👍

I did my 80 golds some time ago, playing the PAL version and using a DS2.

@Sureshot: avoid spinning wheels at the start (when driving a car that has enough grunt to spin its wheels in the first place). Try to find the exact amount of thottle you have to use to make a start as quickly as possible, meaning that your wheels don't spin at all, or only very little. It really helps to use your ghost from the prior try, as you can easily see if that attempt was faster. Try out some different techniques there.

Once you're on the move, just rev the thing up. Do not steer at all, it only slows you down. And avoid the rev limiter at all costs, it will make you lose a lot of time. Some cars are quicker if you redline them, some aren't. The ghost will help you here as well. If you should notice that you can avoid one gearshift in your run by redlining the car, it might be quicker. Try some techniques here as well.

When it comes to stopping, the most important thing is to find the exact point where to slam on the brake. Try to find it in some runs, and remember the position in relation to the marks on the ground. You don't need to shift down or something, just slam on the brake and try to stop the car at the very beginning of the marked area.

Hope this helps! 👍

Hi - I managed to get all the golds! Hapul (DS2/Pal)

If it wasn't for all you guys convincing me it wasn't such a big deal, thanks! you were right! (it wasn't too easy, though )

Sorry but I forgot to add I used the DS2 and I have the NTSC-U/C copy of the game...but I did get 80 gold trophies in the licenses

is CFM still going to adding to the 80 gold list ?? noticed that it hasnt been updated in awhile - maybe not enough hours in the day to do it..

but had to come back and post that finally got the last two gold coffee breaks!!! cant believe how EASY the last cone maze was - under by 10sec but iam sure theres more crazy times...

so thats 85 golds but coffee breaks dont show up as they did in Prologue.

I got all 80 twice now in two different saves. Got it the first time about a year ago or something like that. Started another save about 2 months ago and had all 80 in about 3 weeks. After a while, they dont seem that hard to get. Then again, when i first started they seemed impossible to get. Good luck to those who are still working on it.

I got all 80 for the third time (starting a brand new third game save) last week.

This most recent time, it took me 4 days -- B, A, and IB took a fair bit of time on Sunday. Monday night I knocked out the IA license. Tuesday night I finished S-1 through S-11. Then Wednesday night the last 5 were completed.

Then to continue the fun, I knocked out all 34 driving missions over the next 4 days after that -- leaving Mission 34 for Sunday, and finishing that up late on Sunday night. It's nice to get all that out of the way, and also you basically start the game with 20 cars and about 280,000 credits. Hmmm, what to buy first??? :D 👍

I have 65 golds,8 silvers and 7 bronze,just for now,i think i will be on this list soon 👍

A Couple a weeks ago I was on here crying about my 99.8% game save being corrupt...Well here I go again :P
GameOn.jpg

To pay homage to it's most excellent predecessor I went for the GT3 transfer first, then I went to work on my licences (it's pretty sweet starting out with 15 cars & over a-hunnert grand bank wheeeeeeeeeeee :D)
Happy GT'ing GBG

BTW- It's the NTSC version & I'm using the controller that came with my PS2

Finished the last Gold tonight, that makes the complete set from GT1 through GT4. DS2 and NTSC

OK, as of a little over 24 hours ago, I've got all 80 Gold Licenses!

Woo hoo!

I used a DS2 on a PAL PS2. :)

After playing GT4 for 8 months or so, the licenses weren't as hard as I thought they would be.

I'd always intended to go back and Gold them all, but wasn't sure when would be the right time...

I was over at a mates place and he was having trouble with a license - the Mercedes EVO on the 'ring, the one behind the pace car. After a couple of attempts (I fouled out a couple of times by hitting the pace car and then overtaking him) I managed to not only pass the test, but get him Gold by 8 seconds! He was stoked and so was I.

This got me thinking that maybe I was ready to attempt the 80 Golds.

So, I started out and progressed quite well. Obviously each test took a few (or more) attempts, but one by one they fell... I even managed to get about 3 of them first time up. Getting the Golf around a couple of corners at the 'ring is the only one that springs to mind, but there were two others as well.

Progress wasn't fast, with only one or two tests per night. But the goal was getting ever closer.

Of course there were some harder ones - the Z4 slaloms, the R32 GTR at Trial Mountain, the Saleen S7 at Route 5 and the Takata NSX in Tokyo stick in my mind as problem tests. The coffee break with the 350Z was also a little tricky - a few times I sailed into the breaking area with about a second to spare, but while trying to get that thing to stop the time ticked by...

I was also concerned with the maze Coffee Break and the best way to tackle that. After two or three attempts I had found out the route I wanted to take and it was just a matter of getting the wee Honda through cleanly. In the end I Golded that with 3+ seconds to spare.

Come the final test, the Merc Touring Car on the 'ring, I shuddered when I saw the Gold time. 7:07!? Can they be serious? Anyway, need to go 100% from the outset, and off I went. I slid off the track about four or five times, but on about the sixth attempt it was done. I dropped a few wheels off, and even had a big slide in one corner, but I was Gold by about two-tenths and I was very happy.

So, 80 Gold Licenses, 5 Gold Coffee Breaks and 34 Missions under my belt, that only leaves 100% game completion.

Time to get back to GT4 and get stuck into a few more of those races I think - if I can tear mysef away from the 'ring that is!

:)

NTSC/NA using DS2

Just completed 79 and 80 last night which were the IB BMW Z4 cone tests which i detest and will comment on in another thread. I have been a gamer since the late 80's with the introduction of Wolfenstein, Doom, and Tomb Raider and this forum is the first I have ever registerd on and actually commented in. It actually is kind of cool to be part of this club!!!!!!!!!!!

hooray, I just got all golds last night! :) It's satisfying, but in a way also a bit sad as I feel there's no real challenge left in the game for me (I've done the mission halls before).

The tests I had most trouble with were:

IA3 - threading the skyline through the chicane at Fuji 90s. I couldn't get my breaking right on this one, I knew where I wanted to put the car but it just wasn't happening for me. Eventually I got a good enough line in (although I thought it was a bit sloppy at the time) and a perfect run out for the gold.

IA16 - The Sarthe II in the Nissan R92CP. I've never spent much time in any of the LM class cars so this was definitely a learning experience for me, both with the car and track. The hardest thing for me was getting the first fast right turn down pat, so many times I would either clip too much grass and fail, or simply know I'd stuffed it up and would have to retry. Once I got a good line through that corner the rest of the test was relatively easy.

S3 - SSR5 in the Saleen. I like this track so I was quite annoyed with myself when I was still over half a second off the gold time after a few hours trying. My main problem was the initial turn into the tunnel and, I'm ashamed to say, I found an extra second by, ahem, bashing the wall. :( I found a spot to hit that didn't fail me and also nudged the car around so it was perfectly lined up with the exit of the tunnel, the rest was easy. This is the only time I felt I had to 'cheat' to get gold and I'm nopt pround of it, but I'm sure as hell not going to attempt this test ever again!

S8 - Tokyo R256 in NSX. I've never been 100% confident on this track so I was not sure what to expect from the test, other than many attempts - and I certainly didn't disappoint myself in that regard! Almost every corner I had to spend time 'relearning' and finding later and later breaking points. The game text suggests hugging the curbs but this is very risky in such a harshly sprung car - too far onto a curb and you know instantly you will have to retry. The point in the track where I was initially the weakest was the fast right turn after the 'bus lane dip', and it took a lot of practice until I was able to take this section flat out. Once I'd got that bit sussed the rest wasn't as hard as I'd imagined.

S9 - El Capitan in the Viper. It took me quite a few sessions over a couple of days to crack this nut, but despite the difficulty I really enjoyed it - fun track and a fun car. The key to this was learning to hit the curbs very hard and tight, allowing the Viper's soft suspension to soak up the hit. This was a test where I would know by the first checkpoint whether I was going to make it or not, and many restarts were made.

S12 - Suzuka in the Nissan Motul Z. This was probably the toughest test for me, I love this track but to get a perfect lap on it is very hard and requires great determination. Fortunately the car to drive is very easy, so it comes down to driver discipline and forcing oneself to stay on target, ie the black line. On comparing my lap with the demo I found I was losing time in the Esses, but holding my own in the rest of the track, which suprised me because this is the opposite of where I felt comfortable on the track! I didn't think I could make any time in the early section (although I was initially half a second behind the demo here), but through spoon and 130R I was constantly improving. In the end I got a very clean line though the Esses and managed to follow it up with a perfect second half lap to come in for a gold at 1.55.330 - very satisfying :)

Hi there. I finally had another go after a long time without doing any of the licence tests. It's a testament to how just playing the game improves your driving, that I managed many of them on the second or third time out. I had already got up to ib all gold, but was finding the others really hard originally but stopped to concentrate on the game as I had all the licences. The hardest one for me was probably the Viper around El Capitan, but it was incredibly rewarding.

new member! started playing GT in March (got GT3 at first then GT4 and a DF non-pro a week later), just got done with S16 with an extremely dicey 7:06.372 - lots of 'one-and-a-half-wheels on the track' moments, but got the job done :). now, to take the model T for a spin...yay. then I have to finish the driving missions...

whoops, should have mentioned - NTSC version, obviously.

PAL/DS2 I finally did it :D,on my new game save with 14,2%.The Takata destroyed my nervs,i couldnt gold it for an hour, but i did it,i will post the picture when i get my camera from my bro!Happy:D:D

Greetings from Oz.
Only new here but I would like to join the club. I recently completed 80 golds as well as 100% for the game. I have PAL Australian version and use a DS2.
I may not be the first Aussie to achieve the target but I bet I would be close to the Oldest !
Cheers.

PAL/DFP - Just seen this thread, so I thought it only right to get my name added.
I decided it was about time to get all the licenses after owning the game for nearly a year, but on the 28th January 2006 I finally got the last one :D

What makes it more rewarding is the fact I used my trusty DFP

gt4-license.0.jpg

Wooohooo!!! I just pulled it off, and got the last gold last night. That means I'm a member of the 80 gold club. :D I took the Model T around a few laps of AutumnRing Mini to celebrate. I was surprised at how much oversteer it had.

I've got the North American NTSC version, with the normal PS2 controller.

The worst missions:
*El Capitan with the Viper... good lord that was a PITA.
*Suzuka with the 350z race car... the tiniest errors result in huge time losses
*BMW Z4 slalom missions... I hate slaloms
*SSR5 with the Saleen S7... another one where the tiniest of errors results in massive time loss

There were a few other extremely challenging ones, but none quite as bad as those.

*edit* The proof!!
