After a big break for vacation, I've come back to GT4 and have now finished golding the licences. All 80 of them! Count me in the club CFM! 👍
Now I can actually find out what the racing is like!

80 Golds, PAL, DS2+DFP. It took me about 15 hours of productive driving over a span of 3 days to get them.

Only 15 ?.. I think I've spend close to 50 :irked:

Well ... um ... I'm somewhat out of place here, dragging my sorry bronze butt into your golden domain, but could anyone possibly help me out with the B-license's: Basic Cornering 3 & 4 (I think): the MX-5 and BMW on the Twin Ring Motegi ... it's mentioned above, but Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan I can't get it ... I'm doing something incredibly wrong and even after watching the sample run, I can't get closer than .5 off Silver ... I'm either positioning myself wrong, brakign wrong, accelerating wrong, or all three.

Probably the latter.

COuld any of you stunning goldies help this poor bronzie?

I just took a quick glance... Basic Cornering 8 and 9... Well - If you're .5 sec. behind on those tests, the only advice I can give you is - practice... They're one corner tests, so there's no secret trick.. I can't, and I'm sorry, tell you that "You need to get off the gas before the second righthander so you can get on it early before the long left sweeper - That'll give you the speed down the final straight..." No such thing since there's just one turn.. Practice my young Jedi !...

The secret of these tests is early power to accelerate out of the corner. The secret to that is slowing down earlier and more than you want to. Also, there's a magic point on the controller that's max braking, and it's not all the way back. Too much brakes actually slows down less, like the wheels are locked. And then you can't just floor it like you want; you have to wait for it, then roll the throttle in. The BMW especially will just spin with too much early power. That sounds like a contradiction to the first sentence, but the car has to be pointed down the straight before hard acceleration. If the tail wags, you've lost the test. The sooner it's pointed that way, the better. That gets you the early dig out of the turn, for more speed on the straight, which gives you a quicker arrival at the finish.

Simple cause and effect physics. . . . . :)

I just got All Golds with a 7:06.055 at S16, I need firewoks....!

My favorite test was Nürburgring and I wish the game kept track of the # of attempts, I'd estimate over 200 for me on S-16 and S-12. Some are frustrating and I love them All, I've only scratched the surface of the game and can now start racing.....

I used a DS2 on the US version with Automatic Transmission for almost every test, I needed manual for a few.

The License guides @ GoldJunkies.com were very valuable me!

Just realised in my excitement I forgot to post my version & controller.
I'm on NTSC/NA version using a Logitech DF force feedback (not the Pro, its the one with the F1 style paddle shifters) wheel. 👍

80 Golds, Pal/DS2 Woohoo! S7=understeer  I love that nurburgring  .

Now for the missions :)

So you did the A graduation (RX7 at the nurb) on the PAL version with a DS2. I was beginning to this it was not possible. If you have done so I tip my hat to you.

I did not like it when I saw the demo left foot braking.

Gumpy,
I did the A graduation (RX7 at the nurb)test with a DS2 and got gold.
I had problems when using manual to get gold. Got it very quickly when using automatic transmission.
Same problems with the M5 BMW test at the nurb. Struggled with manual for about 1 hour and then got it third go using Auto.

The problem with 80 tests is remembering all the numbers for them!

Cool. On Friday I have a day off work so have about 6 hours to sit in front of the PS2. I tend to use auto anyway and only switch to manual if I need to. I find it distracting at times when needing to change gears and concentrate on braking and turning points etc Although some tests I got very used to manual - almost all FF full lap tests I have ended up using manual.

My plan then on Friday is as follows:

A16 go for gold
A? Audi at the Nurb - go for gold
S? Chamonix go for silver
S16 Nurb - go for silver
M34 - doubt I will get very far - I have done 1 complete run and it was a disaster although I did try some radical things and got many 5 sec penalties

My M34 plan is to do a few reconnaisance runs and then do the full lap licenses (at the nurb) for gold and then come back to M34 (maybe including the 4 hour enduro as a practice run)

Thanks for letting me know it is possible.

Gumpy,
Your plan makes sense in learning one track at a time and then doing all missions / tests relating to that track.
Good Luck.

My plan for Friday has gone up in smoke.

Last night I intended doing a little experiment with a mini steering wheel we got in a package that has been in the cupboard since we got it. Basically it sucks. Anyway I tried it and decided to put it back in the cupboard.

I was meant to hand the PS2 back to the kids but they had no hope.

I tried the RX-7 at the Nurb. Did a few runs and felt confident (even though I was still about 0.8 off gold). Then something strange happened (I have not had this happen before). I started a run and got to about 10 seconds into the run. Then it was as if the next 35 seonds went by in 1 second. The next thing I knew was I was turning a corner and thought I was overcooking it a little and backed off to make sure I was able to make the next corner. Problem was this was the last corner but I didn't realise it. I missed gold by 0.18. IF I did not back off I might have nailed it. But the strange part was for the middle 35 odd seconds I was somewhere else.

Anyway I had a few more tries and although I felt confident I went to the Audi at the Nurb and got to within 0.13 secs. I then went to Chamonix (S14 I think) and sucked very badly. So turned off the PS2.

Came back about 20 minutes later. Tried the Audi and gradually got my time down and then got the solution. At the right hander about halfway through I was turning in too late and therefore going wide on the exit. I nailed it and quickly got down to a gold time - I also outbraked the demo for the final hairpin as I always found I was wanting to turn in too early at the hairpin. Nailed it by about 0.03. Gold is Gold.

Then went back to the RX7. Did 1 run that was 0.5 off and used that as my ghost instead of the 0.18. Second run trailed the 0.5 ghost for the first quarter of the run but then nailed the rest for gold by about 0.2. The tip for me was to forget about the sliding ie don't think the car will slide. It is amazing that when I drove it I was trying to wring its neck ie drive hard but when I watch the replay it looks very smooth. That Skyline is mine.

Then the major surprise of the night. I went back to Chamonix thinking I would just get a slow run out of the way in preparation to do the business on Friday. I did a 360 and got bronze - 5.9 secs outside of silver. Thought I would give it 1 more try thinking that the 360 would have cost about 6 secs. Remember that I am going for silver and generally I find rally tests harder than tarmac tests. Anyway I went off and found that I was 6 secs faster at the first checkpoint (before the 360). I then did a relatively quick mid section and decided to hammer the run home. To my surprise got gold by about 2 secs.

I then did s16 and got close to silver but then called it a night. I checked my history and found I have done 3 complete laps of s16 and each time I have improved by 6 secs. I was about 6 off silver so Friday may be M34 day.

If I was to give a tip to anyone going for gold it is be confident. I got caught up by the people saying the Rx7 was hard (this was over at Goldjunkies) - I must say they are wrong. Looking back my gold run was not perfect and got close to the demo time.

You know it baby, Yeah! I'm in for all golds and I have every replay too! Look at www.jumpace.com/gt in the next month or so to ddl the replays! YES!

Put me on the list! I got the Ford model T as proof for S (In my signature), but didn't finish all 80 until just yesterday night (I-B, those Z4 slalom tests were soo annoying).

Oh by the way, I got the USA version and used DS2 the entire time

Hizzah! My first ever major GT game completed with all gold medals, (Prologue doesn’t really count). I got bored of racing and decided to finish off by getting gold awards in the licenses. A week later after some on and off GT4ing and it's all wrapped up quite nicely.

And it's a ummm, PAL/DS2 combination. :)
