Lemansrace.com @Lemansrace
RT @radiolemans Aston Martin will continue with the race as a tribute to Allen Simonsen.

Basically, the guy hit a metal tree. You could see during the Safety car where the tree behind the Armco had bark stripped off of it. Completely bent the frame of the car.

The guy interviewing Lapierre is the same guy who used to deliver commentary during Le Mans back in the late 90's.

The memories!

EDIT: No it isn't. Silly me.

Movable systems as the same they use already on road courses.
Correction street courses.
Like on the Circuit du Monaco.

Monaco has foam walls and tires at places where drivers are expected to run off on. Sharp turns, chicanes, etc. The entire rest of the track is still Armco.

Le Mans is set up the same way; and in fact most of Tetre Rouge has tires on it. Simonsen shot straight off at an unusual spot just past the tire wall and hit the Armco on the access road and the tree behind it. It's unfortunate that the access road didn't have some sort of energy absorption (but it has to be said that they can't just surround the entire track with foam and especially not tires), but I'm sure they will have that taken care of next year as well as some other spots that they determine have a chance for a similar accident (I suspect the far left portion of Mulsanne).

Well, another idea is to remove the trees that are too close to the track but that would ruin the beauty of the track.

Do all the drivers have a victory lane and wear plants around their neck or is that only reserved for the LMP class winner?

The only "showcased" car is the overall winner as far as I know, but everyone that steps on the podium gets plants around their neck.

SPEEDtv's coverage is total crap! Stop showing LMPs and give us GTs for once! Also, could you at least show a ticker with the drivers and cars?
