Looking through the forums here I need to go back to this event and try again. I ran three in a row in the 330 and came 6th, 4th, 4th. Each time I was running 2:01-2:05 laps, totalling about 10:25 and only managed to get within 22 seconds of the lead 2J's. On my best attempt I was running 8 seconds behind the lead in 3rd when I clipped one of those imaginary walls and was 360'd in a hurry - rage face. But I enjoy this track and I'm enjoying getting to know the 330. :)

Has anyone managed to win this in the Auto Union?

Looks like @RMan72 did 👍 (bottom of page 4)

Just FYI using my 66 Jag it took me a few tries but with sub 2:00 min laps I finally beat the 2J. When I won I passed the 2nd place car (2D) in the esses on lap 2.

What cars start in positions 3- 10 can also make a big difference depending on where on the track you catch them to pass. I had one grouping with a (drunk) GT40 that I always met somewhere between turns 5 - 9. He would bounce off the concrete barrier and into my lane me every time I tried to go by. On lap 5 in that same area is where I had to start dealing with lapped cars.

Good luck!

I tried an Auto Union yesterday for the heck of it.... a 550PP tune (by GhostRider I believe) and increased power to 600PP. First time racing with it. The car feels like a slug, especially when taking corners. Seems as though it could be pretty fast in a straight long line but when it comes to turning corners feels very heavy and sluggish with lots of understeer and you lose some serious time there.

:banghead:
I still haven't got Gold in this!
I only get 1/2 hour or so in the morning to play, so I haven't had so many goes at this.
But how many times have I been in first and bashed off at The Chase with only 1 & 1/2 corners left!
Aaaagh!

Don't give up. The Chapparal 2J is your best bet for Gold though so you should try with that. Find a good 600PP tune for it. If you getting trouble to find one let me know and I'll see if I can find one or two for you.
Remember, there are three levels of difficulty, meaning that depending on the initial line up the lead cars are fastest to slower. The line up with the two 2Js (and Toyota '70)...1,2,3....are the most difficult/fastest and so forths. Therefor if you get a line up with the fastest, just exit the race...re-enter again and you will/should get another lead line up. Then try again. But remember your best chance of winning would be with driving the Chaparral 2J.
Don't expect to win though if you get a line up with the two 2Js...unless of course you're one of those expert racers on steroids.

If you are in the lead at the Chase just go of your driving line to the left when you approach the corner, that what I do to avoid being shunted off the track and the same goes to Murray's Corner.

Finally beat those buggers in the 2J's...Dang that was tough! I like this race a lot.

I have beaten another 2D with a 2D but not a 2J. Have you been able to tune one to the point where you can beat the 2J?

Yes I've tried 3 times and won twice, but it's not easy. once you clear the traffic in the first lap put in three qualy style laps to catch 1st and 2nd. They drive pretty dirty so do everything you can to keep them behind!

Just had one where I'm in the lead for a lap and a half and the Chappy 'magically' catches me up with me at The Esses and Smashes his way past, most of his car in the grass, leaving me with a 5 second penalty.
3 seconds later, at Forrest's Elbow, he's backwards in the weeds! That'll teach you [middle finger smiley] [middle finger smiley] [middle finger smiley]

Thanks for the advice, but I was trying to win without resorting to the 2J.

My worst line-up had 2 Dodge Challengers and 2 Camero Z28s (after passing the first 2 snails on the Straight) all running together and it was Impossible to pass without bashing, driving in the grass or wall-skidding and then having them smash you at the next corner. The only way of passing them 'cleanly' was to wait a whole lap, poodleing along behind them until the Mountain Straight where they had enough space between them to get past.

I have no use for the 2J vacuum cleaner. The 2J competed in the Can-Am series and qualified at least two seconds quicker than the next fastest car, but was not a success as it was plagued with mechanical problems. It ran for only one racing season, in 1970, after which it was outlawed by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).
There were also complaints from other drivers saying that whenever they drove behind it the fans would throw stones at their cars.

Can you please give me just the difference in your tune versus @shaunm80 . Thank you. I won with his would like to try yours.

The GT40 Handles and stops like a dream compared to the tire-smoking, Corvette StingRay Racer Concept! I actually won with the StingRay and accidentally deleted the picture! :banghead: The body deteriorated and after I restored the body... I can't go as fast and can't win now! (Don't tell anyone that the only reason I won was because T. Sato wrecked in the last turn! :dunce:)

Might see how this compares to the stock tune. I've only tweaked camber to 0 0 and toe to -0.50 +0.35. :)

@Nihamavasa72 Thank you so very much!! I hope to able to help you at some point just let me know!!

good luck,
my camber is at 0 0 aswell and the toe setting you use is not drivable for me, maybe due to the active steering i usually use, so i need it more stable and less twitchy ;)

@skeagracing Thanks a lot for your offer . Ithink the only think that may help me is a lineup without any 2J's or Toyota 7 ... ;)
The last race i lost at #2 with a time about 10:15 or something about ... only minor fails in this, but the Toyota 7 made no mistakes ... though it was in sight on the last lap (2.5 seconds) i could not manage to reach its slipstream , or do you call it draft , or what ? ;)
