I usually don't gripe about the rubber-banding from the AI. We all know it happens, but what just happened to me takes the cake. God, I wish I had a video capture device - maybe I'll record the replay with my videocamera and upload it that way. Here's the gist of what I just experienced:

Using my BMW M3 Chrome Line in the Seasonal Event Intermediate Level race. A Corvette Z06 is the only real competition and I still took the lead in lap 2. As I'm coming to the end of lap 4, I wanted to see how close I could get to the side of that mountain, to see if maybe I could catch a little air...bad mistake. My M3 went flying in the air, flipping, twisting and tumbling. When all was said and done and I had regained control of my car, what was a 1.5 second lead now turned into a 13 second deficit, on the last lap. There's no way I would catch up, right? Wrong. I not only caught the Z06, but passed him and won by almost a full second.

Here are the Z06 lap times:

1) 1:51
2) 1:50
3) 1:40
4) 1:35
5) 1:51 <-- WTF?!

There is no way that I should have been able to get within 5 seconds of him even if I drove my butt off. Yeah, I'm glad I didn't have to settle for second place credits, but that's what I deserved for fooling around. This was ridiculous.

First try I used
Beginner: Vw Golf mk1 450pp CS 1st on the 3rd try

Intermediate: Ruf Btr 500pp SH 1st on 1st try (carrera tune)

Expert: 2 tries CTR2 (not even close)
2nd car:3rd try Mclaren F1 600pp (praiano tune)(SH couldn't get 1st, SS got the win, trying SH again.)

I had a lot of fun with these races and have been grinding with different cars. I had a lot of trouble with the expert race with the ctr2 also then with the mclaren on SH tires so I used SS in that race.

Tried the intermediate race with the Elise Type 72 '01 with a mid-range turbo and an oil change. Expected it to be challenging, yet I've overtaken the Gallardo who was in 1st place on my 3rd lap, won by .265 in the end though.

The same sort of thing happened to me in one of the other A-Spec Seasonal races. I fell way behind on the last lap due to a stupid mistake I made and thought there is no way I could catch up, let alone win. But me being me, I kept going anyway. Ended up winning by a rather large margin just like you. That's why I really don't get into these events. The AI is obviously flawed, in my opinion, and for that reason, I just don't enjoy them. I have also seen people winning these races in cars that in no way, shape, or form should be winning against the cars they were competing against. I have also done in myself in cars well below the PP level. I was clearly out matched in every conceivable way and still ended up winning. Bottom line: These events/AI are just too flawed for me to have fun with. Never thought I'd say this, but my GT playing days are quickly coming to an end unless they do something amazing with the game in the near future. With all the new racing games set to come out, I'm not going to wait long.

@GTP_CargoRatt I understand your frustration. For me, I've never played any other version of Gran Turismo nor any other racing game/Sim, so while I get frustrated, it doesn't bother me as much because to me this is still tremendous fun. Perhaps if I tried another sim, like iRacing, I would never touch Gran Turismo again. Ultimately, I would like to get into PC Sim Racing. I just think a lot more can be accomplished with the power of a PC and a dedicated base of modders/programmers who develop addons to the base (using iRacing as an example again). I watch videos of people in their 3 screen iRacing cockpits with tablets acting as tachometers and lap time readers & smartphones displaying additional info mounted to the wheel - just wow!!

I'm sure I will end up buying a PS4 whenever GT7 comes out and give the series one more try. I've been thrilled with Gran Turismo introducing me to the world of virtual racing. I just wish Career Mode/Seasonals could be more realistic & challenging at the same time. Hopefully the AI will be much better in GT7.

Yes, this set of seasonals are probably the easiest we have ever had. But be aware how difficult they can be. We have had some beauties. I still remember a couple on gt5 involving Lambo's at Tokyo and the ring that certainly were not easy. Gaurantee the next TT will be a cracker. This lot is a gift to grind some credits, next will come a test. Enjoy, I can't wait. Just as an aside, I thought I would try and make things a little more challenging for myself, so I grabbed the Shelby 454 '67 cobra to do these seasonals with. This car is a notorious handful, but in GT6, it seems to be very nice and tame to drive. The trial mountain race is lots of fun in it.

Oh, I know the TT's can be difficult. There are a handful that I never got close to getting a Gold Medal time in GT6 (I never played Gran Turismo before 6). I am not a top tier player. I am quite average. Therefore, there should be Seasonal Events that I not only struggle with, but also never reach Gold Medal time. I'm okay with that! It is incentive to keep trying and trying to better my skills and achieve what once was impossible for me.

Nice driving @GTRufus

These are from my first winning runs on the events. Expert race I was really scrappy but I don't get on well with supercars, much prefer cars at a lower pp level. Intermediate seems to be my level

Hope you enjoy the vids

No Tune No Aids. I passed the TVR at the beginning of lap 5 at the end of the long straight-away for the win. Average laps of 1:43. Clean Race. Cockpit view.

A awesome bit of driving. now I have questions- Wheel or controller ? What Tuner set up did you use ? And how many attempts did you use to get to that point ?

It's really fascinating to watch these replays and compare lap times, especially in the expert race.
I'm only 2 seconds a lap slower than hypercars!
@GTRufus your lines are really consistent.

No Aids. No Tune. Pass the TVR for the win at the end of lap 4 before the start of the straightaway for lap 5. Cockpit view Lap average of 1:42.

Wheel. No aids or tune other than transmission and some parts 3nd time as I was working on the transmission. It's a point and shoot with the FXX. I only tune race cars as that is my main interest in GT6.

AI having ineligible cars as rabbits often happens for both the beginner and intermediate races, the 'Motorsport Elise' & 'Buick Special' are such cars that are showing up most frequently on these grids. 👍

I love the Trial Mountain seasonal :D

It's one of the great original circuits from GT and these cars suit it really well. Shame about the AI but hey what's to except :grumpy:

Most fun I've had so far is using a near stock Megane RS Trophy, closely followed by a tuned Golf R. Big grin town!

It's possible to win with the 450PP cars from the Tsukuba super lap, so pretty much your entire garage is eligible save super cars. Like 👍

My best lap times are just over 1:30.000 with a GTR, I think 1:29 and below is possible. Most of my cars in the late 30's-40's and no less fun to drive.

:gtpflag:

Won all three using the Shelby Cobra 454 . A little overpowered for the beginners, but the last two are a blast. Seems to handle better in gt6 than gt5.

Nice driving! I enjoy the videos... I like the idea that has been floating around this thread: use one manufacturer for all three racing levels. I think I'll go try that once I boot up my PS3.

I had all day to race but the PSN was down thanks to those idiots Lizard Squad DDOS'ing all morning. Then they tweeted in a bomb threat to the flight some Sony executive was on. I really hope they bust these people. I'm all for a little hacking here or there - for the knowledge, not for damage. What these groups do is not right and they deserve the severe punishments they get...

I did the expert with a Speed 12 & Merc VGT on my two accounts. I checked out the replays and the Leader car constantly ran between 1:50 - 1:54. I noticed on some seasonals the AI will run faster laps when I do fast laps but not this time. I'm not that great of a driver, this is actually the first expert seasonal that I have won, but it seems like they took down the difficulty level for the expert race. Just saying

Bravo to you!!

Congratulations @kjb! I personally find Tokyo to be a bit difficult because of how narrow the track is in some spots and the fact the cars seem to slide into walls without very careful throttle control. If I were you I wouldn't necessarily believe PD lowered the overall difficulty in the Expert Level event. You drove very well and that is the truth! :)
