unavoidable contact, thought pit traffic yielded to oncoming traffic
The main problem that arose from this incident is even if he was supposed to yield, you made no effort to slow down or avoid him. When a vehicle comes out of the pits, yes he isn't supposed to rush to protect his/her position and yield to race traffic, but that also doesn't mean that he/she should swerve across the track to let you by. That causes more problems. At that point in time, he was no longer considered pit traffic. Every car is entitled to the line they take as long as it doesn't infringe with the race rules. ghskilla did nothing wrong in the rule book and held his line.
Further clarification of this incident should not be needed.
I really don't understand the lack of attention going into that corner. The least you could have done was brake and try to go on the inside while trying to avoid as much contact as possible, thus it has been ruled as avoidable contact. And on top of that, it costed him two positions instead of one if you took the inside line and passed him. Remember that when a car comes out of the pits with a fresh set of tires, those tires are going to be most likely cold (unless the series uses tire warmers, which this one doesn't, reality or virtual, GT5 doesn't use that feature at all) If this was the actual series, you would have been disqualified for that race, or at the very least, gotten a hefty penalty (stop-and-hold for at least 60 seconds).
If I were a steward here, you would have been hit with avoidable contact, intent to cause an accident, and, if this was the real ALMS, you would also have to pay a fine. There is no excuse as to why you didn't use your brakes. Your brake lights only lit up for a split second, and the bar that displays brake input showed very little, if any, input. Although this is your first offense in the first race of the season, you got off real easy. The actual ALMS is very strict with their rules, and they have zero tolerance for such actions.
By the way, as far as the blend line goes, you are not supposed to cross them when you exit the pits. I've seen many people violate this rule in the past seasons, but didn't bother to report it. Please do not cross the blend line as it is considered as blocking and is the same as rushing to protect your position. We know that you want to keep your position or do better, but you are supposed to yield until you can match the speed of your respective class. In this incident, ghskilla did not cross the blend line, even though it was a very short one.
