I needed more than 267 points to improve on my lowest result this season, so I wasn't expecting to get a result good enough to count in this round. I had to miss the first 2 slots as I was at a wedding, but surprisingly made it home in time for Slot 3. Only 14 people loaded in, and I ultimately qualified P8, over 0.8s off of pole, but pole was over 0.5s ahead of P2, so that meant there was only 0.3s separating me from 2nd on the grid. I'd been busy all week so hadn't had any opportunity to practice fuel saving. I elected to try the 1-stop strategy, but backwards to how most people were apparently doing it. I elected to start on the Hards and go 4 laps before pitting for fuel and Mediums to the end of the race. It actually worked rather well and I ended up P5, rapidly closing on P4 but was maybe 1 lap short of grabbing that spot. It was worth 236 points, and while I had fun, it unfortunately did not count towards my final score, and in fact I would've needed to finish 2nd to even slightly improve on my lowest score. I didn't bother running again because I wasn't expecting to do much better than that.

But while my Suzuka result didn't count, I'm still incredibly pumped about my Daytona result from last week, so I decided to make a belated "photo essay" recapping it:

The gap the pole-sitting Supra had to the rest of us at the start of Lap 4

Daytona Road Course__14.jpeg

My view of the same gap to the Supra (I'd now fallen back to 3rd).

Daytona Road Course__13.jpeg

The aftermath of the leading Supra striking the tires at the end of the wall after turning too tightly into T1, only moments after the previous images. The black and yellow Jag had to take evasive action.

Daytona Road Course__12.jpeg

I went for a move on the Jag into the International Horseshoe, and emerged with the lead of the race as things got a bit messy behind me.

How much the 2nd-place Jag managed to close the gap by the time we pitted on Lap 11.

Me getting the lead back after the Jag got a shortcut penalty at the chicane at the end of Lap 14.

Daytona Road Course__5.jpeg

The Jag taking the lead from me once again at the start of Lap 16.

Daytona Road Course__4.jpeg

Deja vu as the Jag also meets its demise at the hands of the T1 tire barrier, after having just retaken the lead from me moments before.

Daytona Road Course__3.jpeg

My lead over the new 2nd place, a BMW Z4, at the start of Lap 17.

The gap between me and 2nd at the end of the final lap. :scared:

Daytona Road Course__1.jpeg

My winning margin after the Z4 had to serve a penalty for cutting the chicane (still less than 1s separating us at the finish).

Clearly I was far from the fastest in the race, as evidenced by how easily I was caught and/or passed several different times by multiple cars, but I simply drove within my limits and avoided mistakes, which was enough to get a win.

Just seemed really arbitrary and totally random depending on the race whether a no stopper or one pit stop were faster last night. I did a no stop in the Hyundai and finished 8th after starting 6th, and that was just luck after someone in front got a 1 minute penalty for no stopping on mediums . A no stopper (in a Silvia) also won but the people who stopped all pretty much managed to improve their position otherwise.

Got yet another ~140 point score like almost every race this season.

Would’ve liked to go again and tried stopping but I’m committed to only doing each race once, like FIA races used to be in the good old days.

I remember back then I used to be competing for the top 50 in nations and the top 100 in manufacturers but those days are long gone. Finished 82nd and 313th respectively in GT1.

Hoo boy, that doesn't say any of the things you're stating. It doesn't have anything to do with times for starters, and there's no averaging.

How GT World Series works is that in each season only some of your results will count. It's been different each season for the last five years, but it's always been between a third and three-fifths of your results - so in a 10-round season it could be four (that's 3.3 rounded up to 4) to six rounds.

Regardless of how many there are, only your best results are taken into account. Here's the season that just ended:

This was a six-race season, but only your best three results count.

As you can see looking at the top-ten table from Europe above, every driver there has their best three results (in blue) counted towards their total (also in blue). Any other results (in white) are discarded: Adam Tapai has 1,187 points that aren't counted, Quinten Jehoul didn't even drive in three of the rounds.

You can also see that no-one has their highest score (or time, although that's not even a consideration) discarded, and no-one has their score (or time) averaged out.

It is literally only the best [x] scores from the [y] rounds - in this case the best 3 from 6, and for Season 2 next month it'll be the best 4-6 from 10 rounds.

There's no averaging, no times, no best and worst "toss". It's the best [x] scores from the [y] rounds, and has been since the first test season in 2018.

My second attempt with a pit stop didn't go any better. I started P10 again on Hards and managed to keep touch with the group, but I picked up a pit lane cutting penalty, then proceeded to run wide at Spoon trying to make it up. Another P10 finish. I was hoping to improve one of my low point scores but I did not.

No. No part of what you said was correct, as specifically addressed in my post.

I think they toss lowest time and highest time and you get an avearge

There are no times, the lowest and highest are not "tossed", and there is no averaging. Literally everything you said is wrong.

Could only do the first slot yesterday due to having to be somewhere that evening.
Suzuka is statistically my best track from GTS so I was happy to be here. Qualified P9 but would have been higher up if my best lap hadn't been discounted for a penalty at Casio.
Got a good run at the start and then this happens.

From watching a fair bit of the race from their perspective I can see they are on a pad. They must have a medical issue as they are constantly wiggling. Their driving style is don't mind me Jack as whilst they aren't out and out dirty they just don't factor in other drivers as several other drivers who tried to pass them were hit by them positioning their car where they wanted to be despite them being there. (Causing an ironic name.) I think they were fuel saving from the start and will explain why I caught them so quickly and why they immediately fell back as I caught them again within 4 laps. After the crash I began fuel saving. By lap 8 I realised that I needed to save further and thus the people I skipped in the pits caught and passed me again. I finished in P11 0.2 seconds ahead of the Mustang who took me out. A small win in the end.

If I am reading that chart correctly, that is stating that the GT2 America league had 563 people involved? And of those people, 195 was the highest points scored? Is that correct?

If so, it makes this really burn.

Screenshot_20220703-054214_Gallery.jpg

With only participating in 2 of 6 rounds I had 159 points. If I had just participated in 1 more round and picked up 50 points.....

Edit: Wait, that cant be right though. There were people with OVER 200 points in my lobbies last night. They had to have ended the GT2 season with more than 195 points.

No. No part of what you said was correct, as specifically addressed in my post.

There are no times, the lowest and highest are not "tossed", and there is no averaging. Literally everything you said is wrong.
That's what I ment so if someone only does 2 of 6 races his overall score will not be high enough to make worth even entering the race

Been practicing in the wet for the Toyota race in the Formula cars. Damn am I way off pace from the tops of the leader board. lol
I'm doing same it's frikkin pouring down rain I hust watched the replay and his track is dry and he has racing sorts on

21 laps later the track is starting g to dry

Not quite - the numbers/points are just for round 6 alone. In Manufacturer's Cup, Americas GT2 league, 563 players finished the race, 74 didn't and 1274 didn't race this round. So, a total of 1911 players.

In the same group, there are 1221 players with a 'US' country code and 268 with a 'CA' one, so you're number 682 out of 1489 players in North America.

A 42.7 is easy top 5 pace in the lobbies I was in, GT1 DR A. You'll be fine.
Yeah I've been keeping track of the times in those Lobbies (got a friend in the GT1 and our times are very close) so I'm pretty confident I'll do well in some races (just not Suzuka)

My Nation's Results:
Screen Shot 2022-07-03 at 9.52.26 PM.png

All of my counted scores (Rounds 1, 3, and 5) were the results of 2nd-place finishes. This time I was barely #1 in Michigan, and the 2nd-ranked Michigan driver also finished just behind me in the overall standings in 15th.

My Manufacturer's results:

2 of my 3 counted scores were Gr.3 (Rounds 3 and 5), and 1 (my lowest counted score in Round 2) was Gr.4. Highlights include:
  • #1 Chevy driver in the USA
  • #3 Chevy in the Americas overall
  • My first ever GT7 championship race win (Round 5 at Daytona)

My GTWS 2022 Season 1 recap:

Nations Cup

Rounds entered: 5 out of 6
Wins: 0
Podiums: 1
Pole Positions: 0
Top 5 finishes: 2

Total points: 642
Average points (counting rounds): 214
Counting scores: 227 (Round 1 - Honda Civic @ Suzuka), 218 (Round 5 - GrB @ Alsace), 197 (Round 4 - Suzuki VGT @ Sardegna A)
Regional rank: 41st (Central & South America)
National rank: 7th (Argentina)

While I didn't expect to repeat my 15th place in the standings from the last GTS exhibition season in an official season, it is slightly disappointing that I ended up with a slightly lower average score (214 vs 223.8). I needed a good third result at Watkins Glen, and ended up with a 0 after a disconnection in the final slot. While I usually only drive race cars and I'm not good with the rest, I ended up with all counting scores being done with road or rally cars...

Manufacturers Cup

Rounds entered: 5 out of 6
Wins: 0
Podiums: 0
Pole Positions: 0
Top 5 finishes: 1

Total points: 623
Average points (counting rounds): 207.6
Counting scores: 213 (Round 5 - Gr3 @ Daytona), 209 (Round 2 - Gr4 @ Sardegna C), 201 (Round 3 - Gr3 @ Brands Hatch Indy)
Regional rank: 150th (Americas)
Manufacturer rank: 11th (Jaguar)

I didn't want to pick a META manufacturer, which made things tougher than probably necessary. While I struggled with the lack of competitiveness from the Gr4 F-type in the GT7 BOP, specially at Monza, I managed to get all counting rounds over 200 points and a better average score than in my final GTS season. Guess top 150 without a META car in the combined Americas region is not too bad on an official season for me.

Final thoughts

While my pace and scores were similar to my final GTS season, this season was very frustrating, as I had to retry many races in multiple slots due to the very poor driving standards in GT7. Unfortunately, PD doesn't seem to care, and it definitely shows in the diminishing GTWS participation and the GT7 competitive racing starting to become irrelevant (losing many top esport drivers, losing FIA license, losing FIA motorsport games, etc.)

While in some cases, I did still manage to get some decent scores, I missed out on better ones through no fault of my own several times. To make matters worse, I ended up losing so much DR over those races, that I'm now back at A-rank DR after being at around 55k in A+ at the end of GTS. I know I could grind some daily race and get back to A+ and the races that give out the points I need, but honestly, I don't have the motivation to race GT7 anymore. I have been doing some LFM in ACC lately, and the racing there is so much better and much, much, much cleaner, so will focus on ACC going forwards. I like the realistic physics in ACC more as well.

Sorry if I maybe sound a little bit downbeat. I still had some fantastic clean races in GTS/GT7 throughout the last few years. They have just become too far in between to make the time investment worthwhile.

I would like to thank all GTP members I've raced against (and with whom I've always had clean races!) and for all the race and season recaps, which are always fun to read. :) I will still stay up to date with GT7 on GTP. Who knows, maybe in a few months time I will want to be back for at least a daily race or two.

Personal stats for myself, in what I regard as a bad season even by lower-split GT3 league standards:

One of these days I want to see a group of top players get together in an effort to get Citroen off the eternal bottom and into the top 12
I like seeing my name at the top of the Citroen boards (GT Sport, haven't done GT7 yet). I think it's mainly because the MR physics are a bit wonky right now.

Well unfortunately I'm not a top player but I think I might give them a go next time around, you've inspired me, lets see how bad it can get 😎

Better late than never but.

Had a REALLY tense and importantly clean race long pit-stop-strategy-infused battle at Watkins Glen in Nations last week, racing with Matt Simmons (the gt academy champ / gt world series finalist)

It was my first Nations race on GT7 + at Watkins Glen so wasn't expecting too much, and naturally I binned it in the early laps of Race. 1 after qualifying in a solid P7. That was pretty much race ruined and a P10 finish - but seemed to have decent pace and was competitive considering in the top split of ANZ.

Then entered race 2 and managed to qualify P3 (no idea how) before spending the entire race sweating profusely trying to secure a podium.

Lots of pit stop strategy + some quality side by side action through the bus stop chicane, racing with some very talented drivers! Really good showcase for what GT7 is capable of imo. I've thrown together a vid of the action for some fun, if any of you want to check out the race. Cheers !! :D🍻
