I think GT5P was an evolution from GT4 (certainly they felt quite similar). Then for GT5 they rebuild the physics from scratch (that's why it took so long to come out). Then for GT6 AGAIN they rebuild the physics with the help of Yokohoma (tyre model) and KW (suspension model). Certainly they are getting better, but even in GT4 days PD is already left behind on console (Enthusia) and PC (rFactor). Even now 10+ years later with GT6 PD is still playing catch up. I have no doubt GTS/7 is going to improve, but I suspect it still won't touch the likes of AC.

The basic physics of GT is quite good to be honest, considering we are talking 1200+ cars here (dupes included, but still). I am surprised how similar the Shelby Cobra and Ford GT40 is in AC and GT. I always felt both of those cars feel a bit odd in GT, but apparently that's how it is. Also the R8 LMS with its twitchy snap oversteer in GT6 - it's present to some extent in AC as well. The problem with GT is suspension needs to be "freed" - currently it feels like there is a damping aid to prevent extreme oscillations, no doubt to aid pad users. Also tyre model needs to be more sophisticated (pressure and temperature modelling), currently it feels like a stiff block that just provides grip.

For FFB, the sense of weight transfer and grip is quite good, but it just lacks the fidelity and some of the more subtle cues of PC sims. Even compared to rFactor with RealFeel GT feels quite numb. Road feel is practically non-existent. I mean driving at the Nordscheleife in GT6 shakes my wheel less than driving at the pancake flat Silverstone in AC. I suspect track modelling is to blame though and it's not necessarily the fault of the way FFB is programmed.

kaz likes to get as close to a sim as possible and still make it a playable game. given that AC and other games are out now, he has undoubtedly set the bar higher for his franchise but it may still fall short of some of the others.

If they still use the "chase the rabbit" technique for career mode races, any advances will be for naught IMO. That was my single biggest complaint about GT6, it rendered the offline mode pretty much useless to me.

Agreed, it's pointless to have cars & tracks if there's no proper racing offline.

I seem to have lost my interest in playing Assetto Corsa. Is this a phase or is it definite?

I went thru a mini phase like that about a week ago. I play every single day. But, I would literally drive like 12-15 minutes worth of laps. So, sometimes like 2 Nordschleife laps and then I'd shut it down. But, I quickly got through it when I happened to start driving a new track. TT Circut Assen - I've had it installed forever, but I just never drove it really. The author released an update and I decided to give it a shot and all of a sudden I was running lap after lap after lap. This spilled over onto a couple of other tracks. And then Le Mans got updated. Now, I'm playing with the v1.0 of the NSX cars! I've got my groove back.

I can see how you might get bored though. AC is pretty much a hot lap game for most people. I've been forcing myself to do more races against the AI. Eventually, I'll even start logging on to race online once I feel more comfortable close quarters racing in AC. I don't wanna get a rep as being a crasher and I don't want wanna intentionally hang back either.

I stopped playing AC in januari and played it only once for a couple of minutes since then. I went through similar phases back in the day when I played Gran Turismo, GT Legends, GTR, 1nsane, rFactor etc ... .

Every phase lasted for two years, two years without playing any race game or game for that matter. I use to make a huge mistake by selling everything I had. This time, I'm not going to make the same mistake again, keeping my G27 and gaming computer.

I'm not really bored with AC but I'm not really satisfied with current race games. AC is good, really good but the hardware technology is still too limited for me to enjoy it as I want it.

Am I a perfectionist, ......., mmm probably. :P

I want a Star Trek holodeck. :embarrassed:

Personally I just mess around with mod cars and tracks. Since there are new stuff coming out almost everyday, I never run out of things to do. Also if you count how many permutations of cars and tracks there are to drive...It's limitless really.

Also sometimes I switch back to older sims like rFactor, GTR2, GTL, LFS, RBR and GSCE. I haven't even bought some of the newer sims like PCARS and Dirt Rally either.

Also play GT from time to time if I want to drive a car that's not available on PC sims.

It also helps that my life is extremely busy, so I only have like 2 hours of playtime every week  I don't think I'll ever run out of things to do or get bored lol.

Darn my condolences, i normally use those 2 hours to get acclimatized and open the first beer.

I envy you lol. If you see the way I play you would think I'm manic or ADHD or something  I usually just drive for 2-3 laps then switch in another car/track, jumping around like that.

This is why I would never be able to play iRacing or join an online league. It would take a whole 2 hours just to prep for a race

Probably played less than two hours regarding all racings games last 2.5 months and only done two short online races in last 3 years. No prep for them in Assetto Corsa, just went in and luckily won both.

Casualness FTW!
