Those are part of the old testament which doesn't really pertain anymore. You weren't aloud to have tattoos, or shave your beard. Guess what, people do. So now the new testament is more modern and doesn't punish with death or something serious like that.

"We can't do what!?"

"I want to do that, let's change it"

*writes new testament*

I'm actually proud and sad at the same time...Proud to be atheist and sad that so much people still believes in fairy tales responsible for so much intolerance, hate and deaths during the human history.

Thats just how god works. He lets things happen for a reason.

but why? For whose enjoyment? What does god gain from all of this if he even exists? Is he sitting up there picking his butt, is he dead, has he given up on us, has he started planning for Humanity v2.0?

I knew a 14 year old girl many years ago who was hit by a car and died. Did she deserve it? I sincerely doubt she did anything terrible enough to warrant being put out of this world.

Do you really think god would approve of the state of affairs in the world today? Nature is almost depleted for huge mansions for single families. Mom&Pop stores are almost gone because of Wal-mart, etc. Assembly lines that gave millions of people jobs are being ran by machines which only need a handful of maintenance workers.

I saw a movie last night. They now have computer touch-screens to buy tickets, putting real live cashiers out of work. This is happening in grocery stores as well.

The world is headed into extreme unemployment, money will soon be worthless and we'll go back to the barter system, or pure anarchy. A world where the rich will battle the starving people with nothing to lose, and the blood of the rich will fill the oceans.

Yeah, but god loves us. Give me a break.

So how do you explain these men?

  • Pol Pot
  • Mao Zedong
  • Kim Jong Il
  • Napoleon Bonaparte
  • Than Shwe
  • Benito Mussolini
  • Joseph Stalin

All atheist, all killers.

"Imaginary friend or authority" are here to appease basic human fear of the unknown... and well used by human profiteers (religions) to control others mostly for power or financial reasons. It's not for nothing that they always try to "model" your mind in your very early life... when you are the most naive and gullible, when these lies are imprinted deep in your brain.

^ That.

I hated saying the pledge of allegiance in school all the way up until college. Every single day, saying the words "one nation, under god" etc. I absolutely hated it. Brainwashing SOB's. If we didn't have to say that bullcrap every day, I guarantee there would be a lot less god-fearing people.

He rewards them by going to heaven. You may not think that is better for this screwed up world, but it is. There are horrible tragedies. Sometimes he does it so people can find him like natural disasters, or car accidents like you said. Think of them as wakeup calls for people. He also rewards you. He has rewarded me many times.

So, God's letting bad things happen just so he can get a little attention?

He actually came down in person and was crucified. If anyone knows pain, God does. We have disobeyed him, and through love, he has given his son to wash away our sins.

No. If you read revelations, it says that we as Christians. We'd to turn as many people as we can by the time the Anti-Christ comes to destroy everyone claiming he is god. But then judgement day comes and god comes back down to earth to take all of us with him destroying the world in the process. So you guys (if the Anti Christ doesn't destroy you) will be wanting to come. (it says). Hopefully I didn't make you guys even madder.

Ah yes, original sin. We're all lumbered with it, despite the people who were responsible for it not existing, and God also wiping out most of the sinful population in a flood that didn't happen either.

So after that mass genocide, why are we still lumbered with original sin? Not that I believe in it anyway, but hypothetically.

A man of peace?? The guy who ordered the deaths of millions of Jewish people?

The pope is a man of peace, Hitler was a fanatical nut case
You got my point
t’s not opportune to hurl ourselves now into a struggle with the Churches. The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death. A slow death has something comforting about it. The dogma of Christianity gets worn away before the advances of science. Religion will have to make more and more concessions. Gradually the myths crumble. All that’s left is to prove that in nature there is no frontier between the organic and the inorganic. When understanding of the universe has become widespread, when the majority of men know that the stars are not sources of light, but worlds, perhaps inhabited worlds like ours, then the Christian doctrine will be convicted of absurdity.

....Christianity, of course, has reached the peak of absurdity in this respect. And that’s why one day its structure will collapse. Science has already impregnated humanity. Consequently, the more Christianity clings to its dogmas, the quicker it will decline.

-Adolf Hitler
Hitler was a naturalist.

The bible says a lot of things.

You could sell your daughter into slavery (Exodus 21:7), and that would be fine. If you work on the Sabbath, it is a crime punishable by death (Exodus 35:2). How do you feel about leather jackets? You shouldn't be wearing them, making you unclean (Leviticus 11:7). Been around any family members, girlfriend or wife while their on their menstruation cycle? Hope you handled it correctly (Leviticus 15:19-30, Leviticus 20:18, Ezekiel 18:5-6)

Do all the fabrics match up with your clothing? If not, death. Like crab or lobster meat? Death. Plant your crops side-by-side? Death.

Please explain to those of us here how these are relevant today.
Are you a Levite? You know there's a good reason that book was named Leviticus.

You are a great example of the kind of people I like to stay away from. :)

My very hypothetical concept of original sin is entangled with man's evolution from Neanderthal (and other early-humans) to a fully modern, self-conscious human who thinks for himself and innovates stuff like agriculture, pottery and beer, - which is well beyond the more primitive ethos of strictly hunting and gathering lifeways. In such a state, man finds himself in a state of sin because "he has tasted the fruit of knowledge". Thus, the "sin", if any, is original to humans and permanent. It cannot be expiated in any way other than some form of renouncing one's individuality and freedom. Like to the church?

Respectfully submitted,
Steve

 me too.
This annoying girl that always writes "God is great!" on facebook asked me to lend her a book via a message. I immediately said out loud to myself "Hell no, we'll see how great God is!"

killer tiller
All power hungry

Still atheist that killed though, which was my point. Yes many have been killed in the name of God, but atheism doesn't get off the hook either.

Likewise.

But don't worry my fellow atheists, Christianity is a dying faith. All of us Christians that you look down upon will disappear some day.

You can kill in the name of religion, but not in the name of Atheism.

The former is the only one that implies doing something or has a goal. Why are there atheists that kill? Because it's an unfortunate tendency for some percentage of humans.

I suppose that one could try to argue that atheism leads people to think or do bad things, but you'd think that religion, if it was true, would have a better track record.

Who in this thread is a Senna fan?
Have I missed something?

I'm a fan of Senna. So what? Oh yeah, he was religious. So as an atheist I am not allowed to be a fan of Senna?

I'm a fan of Senna because he was one of the best racing drivers in history, and I don't give give a darn crap about what he believed or not believed in, why the hell should I?

You guys really know how to piss people off, don't you?

Exactly what I was about to point out earlier. Why is it so damn difficult for christians to get this?

I think what the basic understanding we can all get from this is that people, in general, are incredibly stupid. If we can go to the freaking moon in the 1960s, but yet we can't look at a person without any race or creed to sway our thoughts, then society in general has 🤬 up.

Religious people unfortunately debate with emotion, whilst Atheists argue with logic (most of the time). Hence, why the two go at it.

There's an analogy for ya

Religious = emotion = women
Atheists = logical = men.

Hence, the two go at it ;)

I would go so far as to say agnosticism is more logical than atheism. To say "I'm not 100% sure" seems wiser than "there is no god at all"

If you don't like Christians then you might want to reconsider your favorite racing driver

Right, you could make the argument they were evil due to a lack of religion, thus not being taught a form of morality (I am not saying an atheist can't be moral, so hold off on the flame-fest). I know under Josef Stalin, practicing Christianity was punishable by death, so one could argue he was killing in the name of atheism.

You could make the case that someone who's religious is doing it due to the same unfortunate tendencies as well.

My point in all of this saying religion is cause for all that's bad in the world is not true. Religion has caused its fair share of unfortunate events, but atheism doesn't get off free of charge either. I'm just point out a hole in that argument.

Exactly what I was about to point out earlier. Why is it so damn difficult for christians to get this?

I'm not Christian.
