When i saw this last night and posted on the news thread i wasn't sure it was new news, that's why i didn't made a new thread. But now looking again at Double H's post at Neogaf, we can see that he knew it was something new.

The interview might be 7 months old, but i think it's the newest we have. Amar's info, as far as we know, didn't came from talking to KY.

The interview appears to be made through email. I doubt the PDF file reporter flew to japan to ask him five questions. Also i doubt the reporter speaks japanese and made it through the phone.

An interview done through PR would explian the dubious answers. Still, the fact that he chose again to reintarate those things are further proof that they are working on some kind of damage and on some kind of weather effect.

For the german native speakers, nothing else worthy of attention on that file or on the video?

And Amar, oh man, your posts kill me. Everytime you post something i think it's a charade now...:dopey:

This man utters the truth.

I hate it when people compare damage to anything, damage is nothing but a noob pleaser in my view whereas weather and day night actually add incredible things to the game. I've since learned to just ignore people who clamour for damage or nothing since it's clear that we'll never agree on anything, in GT, in life, ever.

I kind-of agree. You can only wreck once in a race, yet you can run every lap in the rain.

If I were PD, I'd use thir official PS3 US and incoming EU blogs and share everything through that channels with strong monitorig of PR managers.

IGN and Gran Turismo are a big no.

Like I have been saying for weeks... GT5 + PS Blog = cake!

I kind-of agree. You can only wreck once in a race, yet you can run every lap in the rain.

That is a really good way of looking at it. If damage were to be truly realistic there would be no online racing in any realistic racing game because everyone would be dead.

That's not the point. I prefer mechanichal damage to cosmetic damage, but we want added because it would add realism to the series, it would make people stop playing bumper cars and stuff.

I don't agree with the idea of not adding because dorks will ruin it. People that play bumper cars should get a huge DNF on their races. Online, based on the people that play, should have the option to turn on or off.

The possibility of not finishing the races would add a whole new dimension to endurance races for instance. Can you imagine you in lap 99 of a 100 lap race having extra care because you know it could end in the next corner? We never had that. It's a sim game that never really had any implication for reckless driving.

This is just wrong and i don't know how to defend it. I wouldn't want to play GTonline with crashing people just like i don't play right now with the ones that are doing bumper cars.

Damage would only add things to the game, not subtract.

Hey guys!

I am from Austria and my language is german so thought i translate some facts from that pdf data!

- The One Guy of that interview is the GermanManager of Polyphony Digitals “GT Explore Studio” in Germany for Gran Turismo 5
- For designing the R8 Polyphony sent 20 technicians und designers to Audi which made about 800 Pictures of the car. For making the lightning as real as possible they even delivered the Headlights from germany to Japan
- For the sound Polyphony Digital took the R8 to a “acoustic proofing station” to record the sound in every idling position. When you accelerate the virtual R8 it feels just like fearing as in the real one
- In Future they will become more realistic
- Maybe that’s about GT4: 700 Cars and 50 Tracks
- There will be new tuning Options
- At a few parts of the Nordschleife the sun is blinding the driver while on other parts the cockpit overcomes with shadows
- The trees are looking absolutely real
- When a driver in front of you takes off the track sand is flying against the windscreen

Sorry for my bad school English ;)

:dopey::dopey:OMG OMG, maybe a livery/body modifications???

I forsee alot of 'out of work' B-spec drivers:)

chepu, thanks for posting that list again, because I just noticed another significant piece of information that's been reinforced by a few pictures earlier in the thread:

For making the lightning as real as possible they even delivered the Headlights from germany to Japan

I think it's fair to assume that they wouldn't do this solely for modelling purposes. Instead, I think that this signifies, at the very least, that we will see night racing on real or realistic circuits. Up until now, all night races were on well-lit street courses. The headlights were obviously lit on the cars, but they weren't emitting light onto the road. We can't say for certain that this proves day/night transitions, but we can assume beyond a reasonable doubt that we will have realistic night racing.

Possibly but KY did mention once that headlights are so complex that to model many of them correctly they got headlights from the manufacturers to dissasemble to model the various layers. I do hope that headlights light the road properly this time, especially now we have interior views.

I'm wondering about some of those scenes of the R8 in the dimness of the evening with the lights on. They did seem to spend a lot of time lingering on those shots, and I think that was a pretty distinct emphasis for the mention of night racing in Kazunori's interview.

Yep for street cars which really does beg the question;

Why do car manufacturers not allow damage in a game like GT5 but its fine for Forza 3? I assume it has to do with implementation; Yamauchi wants the car to be a wreck when it crashes at 200mph but car manufacturers are saying no. It's that or (please do correct me if I am wrong) PD do not actually pay for car licenses unlike other games so due to that certain restrictions are made.

Edit - Are weather cycles pretty much confirmed? My mind has not changed in that I could not care less about damage but weather cycles would be meaty.

Because PD promises REAL/SIM damage, Forza Promised to car companies ARCADE damage. BIG difference. I never hear KAZ mention he wants to crash cars at 200 MPH by the way.

So, i read that feature again looking for some extra bits of information:

- The new Gran Turismo will come 2009
- For driving GT5P in the Audi lounge they use the Gran Turismo racing seat kombined with racing seat and pedals"
- They say the Game the play is just Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (like we can see in the videos...), no mention about any special version

I think thats it, no more important points in that article!

Maybe that german manager Sascha Appel of the GT Explore Studio can tell something new if somebody contacts him?

On 21. and 24. May 2009 Polyphony are showing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue at the Nürburgring! Maybe we get some new details then and maybe this Audi R8 LMS is ready to drive at the GT5P Version there!

This is probably one of the better snippets from the video. (Around the 4:17 mark)

The colours still look a little warm to me. There were a couple of tiny clips where the cameraman took some footage off-the-screen which seemed to change the colour slightly and look a bit more realistic. (Around 5:00 mark).

Another good comparision:

Cheers for the extra translations ron68. 👍

In my oppinion, altho i know many will disagree, offscreen footage makes games look more realistic. I think this is because you don't see things like aliasing and it normally tends to exagerrate light effects.
I mean i play gt5 on a 42'' pioneer and yes it looks clear and all but i still think videos on like youtube make gt5 look more realistic than it is, probably due to them being so small etc. like i said just my oppinion because i know how people act on sites like gametrailers and that, and say ''oh the game will look much better on your tv'', yes maybe it will be clearer, but honestly sometimes my jaw dopped when i saw like preview vids on youtube of gt5, but when i first ran it, i was a bit dissappointed to be honest, games always look better to me when shown on crap quality vids, same goes for crysis which i also play at 1920x1200, i think its because you expect to see the same thing but just clearer when you play it yourself but like i said offscreen footage seems to do all kinds of tricks on the eye.

MGR

Off subject but this looks nice. Looks very "Full PS3 spec"

The trees do indeed look real even though they probably are 2D or something. Who cares.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

But sometimes thats not the case, like MGS4, the smoothest game I know. I do get what you are saying though, and I have to agree.

If by whole new dimension you mean the dimension of rage...

I can really only see people acknowledging losing first place on the 99th lap of a 24 hour race as "realistic" and claiming to "enjoy it" as people whose time has zero value and whose connection with reality is so loose that they need a GAME to remind them how crappy real life is. And NO, a "simulator" DOES. NOT. have to simulate. EVERYTHING.

"GT5: The real masochist stimulator" is that what certain people actually want? Please keep your sadistic car S&M fantasies to yourself thanks.

I have to agree with you on that! That clip looks amazing, and just as you said it looks like PS3 running at a high level

If people are spinning out it's because of lack of concentration and realistic physics, same as if you lost concentration at 150Mph in real life, no one wants to play an arcade game here where you never spin or errors dont impact you, we play GT for a reason

Yes, but can you trust the ai to race you cleanly on the last lap or any lap for that matter? Hey this is turning into another damage thread:)... sorry.

In real life one person doesn't do a 24 hour race either which will probably be the same in gt5 (hopefully mid race save games are possible though). So sometimes some leniency in a game is needed as not everybody is as patient and understanding that the game is trying to be real. After all, it is still a game.

Countless times I swore at F1CE where I was in the last part of a race and some idiotic car I was lapping would ruin my race. While having damage and my race being ruined with few laps left during a long race is possibly the most frustrating thing in the world, at the same time I appreciate it being in there.

By the way, the R8 LMS is one stunning car. Im sure it will be in GT5. Doubt you will see anything new at nurburgring this month though. will be saved for e3

All valid points :)

i was just making the point that we play GT because of the insane realism it offers, and however frustrating spinning is its part and parcel of that, for me more than most :D haha

the lightning is just plain wrong. It's clearly visible comparing the two first pics in the earlier post.

There is also the same 'thing' in another point in the vid:

r8_001.jpg

identical lightning.. real vid.. or not.

MGR, could you do same kind of clips from these points of the vid too? Just to get a better look of them :)

:

I would assume since this in on Audi's website, that they could fly someone to Tokyo if they want to but it's probably done during one of the many events KY may have attended- which probably be the Paris Motorshow. Most companies have pretty good protocol when dealing with japanese clients, even if it's over the phone.

I've just finished driving a few laps around Nordschliefe on both GT4 and GTR Evo and despite the resolution and clarity from the latter, the one from GT4 still look more real to me.

PLease stop comparing GT to real life. There is NO comparison. No matter how perfect GT is, it'll never be real life. If you want to experience real life, go drive for 24 hours straight in real life and experience the whole sensation of it in full 100% realism. GT is a game first, and a game should be fun. If that means that it's lenient enough after you've spent 23 hours on a single race for whatever reason (I would never do an endurance race, NEVER) it'll let you win, then I could go for that.

To me, it's simply incomprehensible that people who aren't paid an incredible sum of money to drive for even 8 hours in pure exhaustion would do so voluntarily for 24 hours and DEMAND that they be punished for it as if they were being paid millions of dollars. It's like "Hey mom! Look! I'm a weal wacecar driva now!" "No hon, you're not, put the controller down and go spend some time with your friends." Next thing you know, certain people who demand "random mechanical failures" will demand that a 24 hour race be unpausable just like real life with realistic peeing and taking a crap while driving. *sigh

We must play GT for different reasons, I just want to drive all kinds of cars on all kinds of tracks with awesome physics and graphics. I play GT to learn to become a better everyday driver; I have no illusions that if I am punished in the game enough, that I'll be hired by ferrari to drive for their next F1 season.
