Yep Sonic what I felt in the last race was a substantial whack in the rear which sent me off track. I get that it was lag as I noticed from behind in an earlier race that your S2000 was lagging, in fact doing that zip all over the screen thing at some points.

In last night's five races I reckon I got punted up the rear heavily about 7 or 8 times, only half resulted in an off track excursion. But all were annoying.

To you who whacked me I don't think it's your fault.

I suspect the cause is that not only do I take a slow in fast out approach, but being an old guy my version of slow in results in braking on some corners that is waaaaay earlier than the majority of you who still have reaction times.

If I could have my cars look like a ride on chair with a whip aerial and an orange flag on top it might give you fair warning. Not everyone has this prob with my limitation/style but some of you do.

Until we get damage and it don't profit noone to make contact can I request that when appraoching a corner and you see 'vrrm' ahead you think 'old guy' orange flag on whip aerial, brakes for dinner before lunch.

Thanks in advance.

Enjoyed last night, got bored in a couple of lonely drives in the 10 lappers. Think the Lancia is a hoot.

I might be around for MNR next week.👍 I'll be on holidays so I should be able to attend. The reason I haven't been at MNR in recent history is mainly because of the poor attendance and the nights. But it sounds like last night was great with a lot of competitors. So i'm thinking of doing MNR on a regular basis again. It would be great to see as many Southern Cross Racing drivers as possible out racing in MNR.👍

I'll try and make it to next weeks MNR meet as well. I've missed it for the past few weeks and would like to try and get back into it again. 👍 I will also try to make it to SAR next week too.

Yea i think MNR may be on the road to recovery.

I think we should talk more about the contact after reading Vrmm's post. As most of you who watch racing such as V8supercars etc will know contact is just an unavoidable part of racing.

But lots of incidents are avoidable. I saw one incident last night identicle to a previous one at fuji few weeks back with someone braking far too late and plowing straight into another guy and just carrying on like its all good. If youve missed your braking point you should swerve out off line and do everything you can to miss them. And if you do hit them you should pull over straight away.

And another thing that happens often is people not being able to race side by side. Some of you guys understand this concept but others dont. You have to give someone room if they are making a move on you, you dont have to let them pass but you have to at least give them room.

I agree Tizz.👍 Passing and defending is basically just using your common sense. Like if you're going side by side, leave racing room. I've been side by side with Animera, Nick and probably tizz quite a few times with no contact at all. So it can be done for sure.👍 MAY last night proved to me that his race craft is top notch with both offensive and defensive driving. He was able to defend really well and also apply the pressure from behind. It was awesome.;)

Contact like you say, is always going to occur. Happens in most forms of motorsport so it won't be any different here. Where the game makes it hard is that we have not only lag to contend with, which when extreme, sends cars jumping all over the place but furthermore & perhaps just as worse, we have poor peripheral views, especially for drivers in cockpit view. In some cars the mirrors are basically useless as you can't see anything out of them which makes close racing very difficult.

With these things in mind, as it has been discussed previously, its probably best to just keep rules as simple as possible. Accept these are the problems we're all dealing with & that a lot of the incidents are caused from it. Sure its frustrating as hell but automatically jumping to conclusions before finding out the whole story is not the way to go. I've done it before, as I'm sure many others have as well, when in the heat of battle and somebody hits you its straight away 'who hit me, they've ruined my race, I'm pissed off about it'. However once its all done and over, you realise that there's no way any of the guys racing this event would be hitting you on purpose and the accident was either caused by those problems mentioned or a mistake on their part.

If a mistake is made by driver which causes another competitor to get hit off, then of course, that driver should stop and wait, letting the other driver back in front. We all know this. Also as tizzla mentioned, if you're going to overrun the braking point by a lot, don't aim your car right at other drivers which would cause incidents.

However everybody should be aware there are times when contact is made, yet the driver has no awareness of it. This can come in many forms from very small collisions in your blind spot where it seems nothing has happened yet you find out later you sent another driver off, all the way to the example of myself and vrrm from last night. Everything on my end said there was no contact between us yet there was. I continued on because I know I didn't hit him but with lag in play and cars jumping around forward, back, side to side, it creates 'fake' collisions. So everybody should try to remember that if there is a collision and the 'guilty party' just drives off, it is almost for sure, they're not aware there was a collision or it may have been a case such as the one from last night.

The last month or so of MNR (and in general) has been fine in my opinion & if we just stick to the standard OLR rules and keep a bit of common sense like vrrm & tizzla have both said (understanding different lines/slower-faster speeds in corners, giving racing room) then I don't see why any change should be made.

The capacity for close side by side racing is there in the game but currently too much of it relies on guess work on the part of the drivers.

I reckon what the game really needs is a mod to enable setups to include two additional screens, one each for the peripheral side views.

Having now seen the scoring system I reckon the current scheme of a comp over 4 weeks using same tracks/cars is a great idea (feel glow of warmth and self pride whomever thought it up). I particularly like the concept of ongoing development of cars and refining individual techniques for the each track.

I would not be surprised to see fields grow to the point where we will need to use 2 start times..... which throws up all sorts of interesting options like set groups in 2 fields for 3 weeks then a regrouping based on points for the 4th week final run off.

On the subject of numbers of competitors, there is an AU driver GTP_Devie who is very fast and fair. I have been trying to engage him in SAR & MNR for some time without success (he's not familiar with keyboards so is hard to get a msg out of). From what I've seen he would make a great addition to the field. Apologies if I'm stepping out of line by encouraging this guy to join in, but I reckon he is good value.

Any assistance anyone can give would be appreciated.

To the "ride on chair with a whippy aerial and an orange flag on top it" guy.

GTP Devie is a great driver, and I have also tried to get him to come out and play but he seems content with TT's and the occasional random online race....

@Tizzla - good to see you back into the groove mate (minus the GTP tag - i'm sure there is a story to be told at some stage).

Last Monday was an encouraging sign with a full grid of good people, even if there is the odd accident it is still way better than the punters that lurk in these online games hoping to muck up your day.

Go you good thing!👍

Other racers... if someone in this crowd 'feels' like inviting anyone, that is all the endorsement that the SAR/MNR newb needs

Crowding... I'm not overly concerned. We currently appear to be getting split up into more than one heat anyways, and as you only need to race one other SAR/MNRer to be eligible for full points, I think we can carry on as we are for the mo 👍

"I particularly like the concept of ongoing development of cars and refining individual techniques for the each track." -- my fave part, too, Rob... points-schmoints... I'm just happy to be tweaking again :dopey:

Yep, exactly. I've had a number of great side by side races with some of the drivers in this event but majority of that has been from either anticipation or as you say, guess work, where you just think 'oh driver x might be somewhere in the gap I can't see so I'll just leave him room'. When it comes off, it looks and feels great but soon enough guess work leads to accidents :(

2 additional screens would help tons but maybe also a feature should be added in the final game for multiple virtual mirrors & the angles you can set them at. rFactor has this feature where you can have a centre mirror, like the one you'd see in bumper cam but also the ability to turn on/off an additional 2 other mirrors, one on either side of the main one. This allows you much better peripheral views. Add to that the ability to set the angle at which they're aimed at and you'd have a much better idea of where everybody else is in close tight racing.

I like this as well :) It allows you to get settled in with the cars & tracks, fine tuning your skills each week to get better. Also helps greatly with car setup as if one week something doesn't work, you just try another setup the following week 👍

I should be there tonight, but my race against GTP_timeattack is at 10pm so I may have to leave about 30 mins early to practice.

Looking forward to some good racing tonight :)

Crazyhorse will be absent & has asked me to calculate points for this round, so as usual, post your best results here afterwards. I'll tally everything up and then when crazy gets back, he'll fill in the table.

Cheers

Sorry guys, Was looking forward to racing but I only remembered today that I was racing GTP_aussienicko before I race GTP_timeattack for GTP_race Event 03. So Nick and I will be racing at 8pm which is when MNR starts. Then we do best of 3. So I may get there for one. But probably not. Next week I will definetely be here, assuming GTP_race event 03 commitments don't get in the way again.;) It's been sooooo long since I've done MNR, 11 weeks ago was the last time I believe.

That was awesome racing tonight for me.Its so good to finally have good fair racing for a change,im so used to being hit around like a dodgem car plus no lag is beautiful. Ill definetaly look forward to next week.
Also do we need to do anything regarding the points system?

Race 1: Ok start and first lap or 2. Was behind vrrrm who seemed to be struggling in the first sector, particularly the essess. I was trying to be careful and give him room but this resulted in getting a tap from behind by devie which sent me off into the sand. He waited and I got back on the track and continued on. However by then we were already too far behind to have any shot at a good finish. To make matters worse I made 2 stupid mistakes. The first was running wide in dunlop which let a few cars by, then a couple of laps later, I stuffed the chicane and got a penalty. I knew as soon as I turned in that was going to happen, which was frustrating considering it was all setup for devie and myself to have a battle to the finish. Ended up 6th.

Race 2: Good opening lap and running 2nd. Vrrm was in the lead and sort of off in the distance as I came into turn 2. Then I saw him spin and hit the wall on the left hand side of the track. However his car then spun back across onto the track and I was praying he'd hit reverse and not end up on the racing line. He didn't & I had nowhere to go as I was coming through at that moment, slammed right into him, which then sent me way off track into the wall. Was frustrated but pushed on however with nobody else around really, it was a lonely drive to the end. Finished 5th.

Race 3: This was an awesome race with tizzla. It was just him and myself out in the lead for the first 9 laps. Constant position swapping and fantastic racing. At the end of lap 9 into the chicane, I went in slightly too hot and hit tizz in the rear. He managed to keep it on the road but then on the exit of the chicane, ran slightly wide. I stuck behind him and gave him a nudge to get him back to speed. We then raced down the front straight but I didn't try a move as that would be only gaining a position from my mistake at the chicane. However at turn 1 he made a mistake (I think?) and ran into the sandtrap. I drove the first sector of the final lap at half pace waiting for him to catch up, but he seemed to either go off again or stop racing because he ended up last  Finished 1st.

Race 4: Car was terrible off the line, worse than the previous weeks but managed to get into second fairly quickly. Then hunted down devie who I caught by lap 3 or so. He made it quite hard to get by down the front straight on one lap but the race was lost by another stupid mistake, running too wide at a corner in the final sector, giving myself a penalty and allowing him to cruise to the finish. Ended up 2nd.

Race 5: Ok start but ruined quickly but the idiot punter in the lotus, who over the entire race hit me off twice, vrrm once as well as ed5ta. Pushed hard to catch up and quickly caught up to vrrm who was now stuck behind lion-face in his f40. He was backing us up, as soon enough ed5ta also caught up and it was now a 4 car train with a few very dicey moments. Finally managed to get by with a few laps to go and then ran by myself to the end. Finished 3rd.

Best finishes:

Race 1: 6
Race 2: 5
Race 3: 1
Race 4: 2
Race 5: 3

GTP_DEVIE
Also do we need to do anything regarding the points system?

You just need to post your best finishes from either SAR or MNR. Don't count random drivers who are not part of this event. So say you finished 2nd & I came 3rd, but the 1st driver was a random, then you finished first for that race, I came second and so on. I'll then tally them up and crazyhorse will add it to the table :)

Cheers

Race1 - 350Z Amuse - What a great car to race,it has such a predictable drift when pushed really hard - was getting low 2,02's - got a slight touch thru the esses which dropped me back afew places but was still enjoying it.
Vrrm your a gentleman - handed me fourth

Race2 - Subi - As Sonic said Vrrms spin at T2 was real Nascar stuff - drifted back into the oncoming train, cars going everywhere trying to avoid contact, I swerved to miss him and pushed Tizz wide. Finished fourth

Race3 - S2000 Amuse - Tizz & Sonic gone burger! ED5TA_155 & myself had a great battle until he lost focus around lap 6 (sorry for the pushes in afew places)
Tizz waited for me on lap 9 & we ripped around until he parked it into the tyres on the last corner - he was not running for the points.
Thought it was a good jesture from the JPN in the F40 who hosted the race to pull over at the start.

Race4 - Lancia - TORC_Womble pried third place from my grasp by 0.021sec - top job mate

Race5 - BNR34 - Tizz took to the grass on the first lap but he played the gentlemans card by not re entering the track - thx mate :)
This allowed Devie & I to make a break on the crowd. Was a fantastic race, really close battle until the DE panese **** arrived - managed to take him out on lap 8 before he got me but he caught up again & did the damage - held on for third place.

SAR - DNS - internet problems
MNR
R1-4th
R2-4th
R3-2nd
R4-4th
R5-2nd

@Tizzlaa - It's been a pleasure to eat your dust mate and I look forward to meeting you somewhere in the hills of the the 'green hell' when GT5 comes out.

stuck behind! i was faster than vrrm the whole race! i take offence to that sir! :D

Na, you caught us after the Degner curves, which is where i'm slowest around the circuit, so vrrm was closer to me, and coming out of the hairpin i missed shifting into 3rd gear, so i went no where, vrrm ran into the back of me, i let him past just as you got caught up in the confusion.

The previous 4 laps i had spent chasing Vrrm and catching him, the lotus pulled up behind me, and lap 5 i let him past through the essess, i figured lose a second or so or get punted, he quickly caught Vrrm and Vrrm was tapped off at the 2nd apex of Spoon Curve, I waved as he recovered from the kitty litter

Faster than vrrm??? In F40 you sure??Plus i wouldnt take offence being slower than him mate:)

i was joking about taking offence, but Vrrm, the few times I've raced him, doesn't appear consistent (I've only raced him a handful of times). One race i'm all over the back of him, the next he'll disappear into the distance, i guess we all have our bad races, and he probably is a faster driver than me, but that race, after the first lap i was approx 2 seconds behind him and catching him consistently for 4 laps before the lotus came up behind me and i backed off to let him pass.

And whats wrong with the F40!?! That car is capable of 2:02's around Suzuka! Not that i was doing 2:02's in that race, i was actually averaging 2:04 flat which was slow for me, but fast enough to keep Vrrm in check :D

DEVIE: the D becomes :D because you use a colon followed by the D in disconnection which is the code for the :D smiley.

hmmmmm lion-face you were indeed quicker in race 5 than I was last night (in addition to having an off night I managed to lose my tune for that car and a couple of others after SAR - had a power failure & no game save, & didn't restore in time for MNR) hence I was dropping back through the field steadily in race 5 in relation to a number of drivers.

That said, I can't say I enjoyed racing the Mines in proximity to you in the F40 (or see the point of you using it as the odd one out in a one make race). If you were significantly faster or slower and could keep out of others way I'd have no probs - and I do acknowledge you were doing your best not to get in people's way (including mine) during the race - but the Mines and F40 are close enough (and we were bought into proximity a few times dues to your off's and mine thanks to the DE guy) meant we were very close a few times. Then the differences in the two cars speed at different points in the track (Turn 1 and Spoon) created an obstruction, lol, despite the draft given in other spots, it didn't come out square for me.

I can't say Tizz doing his 'wheee look how fast I am' ghost number thru traffic during that race helped either. He came thru when 3 of us were right behind you thru Spoon, which had its own consequences.

Having a gnat like attention span. I am easily disturbed from a routine and yep I can be inconsistent, both in a race and from night to night. However, I do race the specified cars, tune to the rules and by and large behave when racing close & passing.

Sonic

my SAR results were:

Race 1 2nd
Race 2 2nd
Race 3 2nd
Race 4 2nd
Race 5 disconnect

MDR

best forgotten.

Thanks for taking on the tally job.

Now i know that Vrrm does not need me to defend his abilities with the wheel and in review i can not believe i'm trying to defend an Australian from a New Zealander but he has been one of the bench mark drivers for me since i first got online - so if you got the better of him last night you better put a notch on your steering wheel cause he will back to claim your scalp next time !

That said, I can't say I enjoyed racing the Mines in proximity to you in the F40 (or see the point of you using it as the odd one out in a one make race).

Im sorry to hear, as i enjoyed my time on track with you, and later on ED and Super

I race the F40 currently because its fun! What MNR is all about, a bunch of Aus/NZ GT5P enthusiasts getting together for a night have having some close, fair racing. The F40 isnt the quickest car about, and i thought it would be more interesting seeing other cars on track that you know arn't going to punt you at the next corner. Maybe i was wrong (wouldn't be the first time :D )

If you guys would rather i didn't race with anything but the cars specified, i wont. I can play by the rules, as I've done in the past. Sorry i haven't really found this months car/track combos that interesting, but thats my problem, not anyone else's.
