If it will get a decent multiplayer mode I might get this one.
Although when it releases next to Starhawk I will probably pass it :)

Gaijins first console flight sim was IL-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey which is basically the best flight sim on the next generation console.

The sequel "Birds of Steel" will be even better with more planes, a different theatre of the war and will be a mmo of some sort. If you love flying this will be the game to get.

@Fryto this is a very different flying game than Starhawk.

More videos 👍

Top one may be world of planes but its basically the PC version of Birds of Steel IIRC.
One thing to point out Kuban is a place near crimea its not Cuban miss spelled.

Sorry to bump again. Why is no one showing support? So many loved Birds of prey.

Anyway if you want to apply for the beta for World of planes (a similar game on the pc made by same people) then here is the website http://worldofplanesgame.com/en/game/guide/betatest/ 👍

Oh and box art.

This game should NOT carry the IL2 name. Its an insult to IL2.

Well thats how I feel about it anyway. Call me a sim snob, but I played "Wings" of Prey (the PC's version of Birds of Prey), and although it was pretty, it was a total arcade game. When you think IL2, you think deep sim, and that it was not.

Eh...not my cup of tea.

You try the sim mode? Before you call it a total arcade game play Blazing angels 2. Its the best we will ever get on a console. Anyway it doesnt carry the IL2 name.

Sim mode is still a joke for a game that carries the IL2 name and even calls itself a sim.

Sadly any flight sim on a console will be arcade, which is fine if you like that kind of thing. Until they allow the use of pedals, and a true flight stick + keyboard, the console wont be able to have a true flight sim.

This doesn't carry the IL2 name...

It does however, look very good. Gonna keep an eye on this one.

I think Anton alluded to BOP maps may be DLC for this title.

Looking forward to this one.

I think the PS3 version slightly edged out the Xbox one last time.
Hope it's the case this time around. I don't own a flight stick for my Xbox.

Forgot to mention I think Anton mentioned a tournement feature with prizes. It would be good following on from our Mustang tournement which Gaijin sponsored and gave prizes to.

First of all its evident you haven't even played it for console :dunce: You can use a keyboard and flight peripherals with the PS3 version.

PS3 got the updates the Xbox version didn't, and the game got awesome reviews 9/10 from most reviewers. http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=9173

Dont understand how someone can say it is a disgrace to carry the name when it was the publishers first attempt at a flight sim for consoles and flight dynamics and models were carried over from Maddox. Infact the the lead designer for Maddox Game is the first person mentioned in the credits other than 1C as the publisher.

People will always judge based on mis-information.

Gaijin is the best example of how a developer should treat their customers. If PD could treat us GT fans the same they would excel beyond belief. Anton always asked for imput and gave out information on the fly, that is until the publisher told him to hush. Birds Of Steel is going to be 10X what BOP was and I can't wait.

Considering that I even said I played it on PC not a console :dunce: it should be evident.

So you are saying you can use a full keyboard (for trim, mixture, radio commands, etc.), with a HOTAS, and rudder pedals on the PS3? I had no idea.

And yes, I was very bitter on how the PC version was hyped to be THE next flight sim, and then finding out you could carry unlimted bombs, take on 30 enemies with 4 planes, respawn, no take off landing mandatory, and then a total lack of support at the end.

So as much as I respect the IL2 franchise, I feel entitled to be upset with it.

Sorry, no you can not adjust fuel mixture, It sucks that you didnt care for the pc port but this game was never intended to be the next sequel to IL-2.
The game needed more for me too like speed up time and mission editor. I used to play the original IL-2 and i think they have done a remarkable job with the IL-2 franchise, and maddox the IL2 creator putting his name on it says a lot. My point was that Gaijin heard the fans when we asked for more and given how open the ps3 is for peripherals they gave us more than what we asked for.

Now is BOS going to be more sim like? I don't know but it will have more options that we wanted in the first. And let's face it this is the best we have gotten for a sim on a console.

Please don't make me have to play through the whole campaign to unlock realistic/sim settings.

The missions don't change it just spoils the surprises if you have to re do it.

You don't in BOP you just have to do the realistic and sim tutorials.

Yes I'm ok with that.
Apache assault isn't like that though.

Just have to see what they go with. Should be like any racing game/sim where you can alter aids from the start.

Surely you won't play as Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor right?

Why not?

I dont get why an axis campaign is immoral. True they did some horrible things but thats not what this game focuses on.
