European Corvettes have slightly different taillights, and of course have their horsepower measured in PS. Aside from that, I believe they're the same.

EDIT: Oh, and the Z06 is indeed on sale officially in the UK, according to Fifth Gear.

The European sold Z06 is exactley the same as the US one tail lights and all, I can also assure you, the only SRT-10's I've seen here have had the exhausts in the same place as the US ones, coming out the side just infront of the rear wheels.

The older RT/10 Viper had rear exiting exhausts with 'dummy' side exhaust panels on the UK(& Euro?) version. Perhaps this is what is confusing the issue.

Yeah the RT-10 did, I saw one of thoes over the weekend, in the Bauer and Millet showroom mind, I've never seen a Viper on the streets.

...You should have a go driving one of the earlier Vipers. Rubbish is what I say, but there are plenty of people who dissagree. Sure, the monserous horsepower and torque is great, but the interior is too cramped, and there are way too many squeaks and rattles compared to the Corvette of the time, and even today.

biased opinion i think there

so just like your average tvr then? :P

You little..... Vette's, Vipers and TVR's are pretty similar in what they offer, lot's of power, not too sophisticated or technical and with TVR in particular, really low weight. It's hard to find peple that genuinely like all three though, I respect Vettes and vipers but I'd still turn my nose up at a Z06 for a Sagaris or a T400R even though the Z06 is a more powerful and faster track car, and most certainly for a T440R or Typhon the Z06 v T440R I wouldn't want to specualte about, but a Typhon should be a class above the Z06 with it being a 220mph supercar and all, weighing around 1000kgs and having almost 600bhp, that thing must be an absolute monster on the track.

I like Vipers, Vettes and TVRs all for different reasons, but if I had to pick one, I would go with the Vette. I suppose what it comes down to is that the Viper just seemed like a kit-car to me, far less refined that the other Corvettes made at the same time. The Viper in question was a '96 GTS Coupe, and while it was a blast to drive, it is what it is, just a toy.

Atleast with the Corvette, you could drive it to work or school everyday. Its a pretty comfortable car (depending on the suspension choise), and offers many of the features available on Cadillacs that make them so great.

As for the TVRs, its more of a lust thing (being that I am an American). Sure, I'd love to have a Sagaris or Tuscan, but we obviously dont have them here, nor have I ever seen one in real life (that could change, I'm considering a trip to England next year). But from what I understand, they are somewhat like toys, with big motors and so-so build quality.

But of course, none of that matters as sports cars are what they are; sports cars. They dont need to apologise for being harsh or coarse in any way, as that is how they are supposed to be.

Well said, I would agree that the standard C6 is probably the most comfey of any cars under thoes badges made so far but like you said, they just toys for boys really. But I just tick when it comes to TVRs, I know they're not practical, I know you can't or rather shouldn't drive them in the wet, I know they arn't the finest example in build quality, but I don't care, I wouldn't buy a sportscar for any of thoes things and a sportscar would always be a second car to me. It's the making you tick thing some cars have that can count more than any of that.

I disagree with a bit of YSSMAN's comment.
On UCP, one of our members owns a '93 Viper and drives it quite often around town.

The GTS can be daily driven too, but it's mostly the fear of being stolen and sometimes cramped space that can be a problem. I find no problems in the GTS either. I fit snug as a bug in them personally.

And though the early Vipers had "problems", I've read a great deal of problems with C4 Vettes of the time.

Sure, all of them can be driven daile, I see a couple of TVR owners in my area who drive their cars daily but I do think the standad C6 is probalby the best around town car, that said, none of them were designed to be great at that. The C6 is probably just the best of the three in that area. I know nothing of the C4's and very little of the C5's though, so I don't know of any problems or issues other Vettes had.

Of all the Corvettes I've had expieriences with (generally C4-C6), they are pretty comfortable to drive and to ride around in.

...I may be a bit harsh with the Viper at times, but I call it like I see it. It isnt that the car is that bad, as it really isnt... But when I drove the '96 GTS, I just didnt work for me. To drive it around every day, well, I'd be insane. I'm 6ft, and although I fit in just fine, the positioning of a lot of things was awkward.

I'd be willing to be that the new Viper is a lot better to drive on the inside, but I've never been in one, so I couldnt tell ya...

...The Z06 isnt? It beats the Murcilago and SLR in most performance tests, and comes damn close to matching the Carrera GT...

And that doesnt make it a supercar?

According to Car and Driver Magazine:

2005 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR:
- 60 mph: 3.6
- 100 mph: 7.9
- Standing 1/4-mile: 11.6 sec @ 125 mph
- Top speed (redline limited, mfr's claim): 207 mph

- 70-0 mph @ impending lockup: 161 ft
- Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.97 g

- EPA city driving: 13 mpg
- EPA highway driving: 18 mpg

2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06:

- 60 mph: 3.4
- 100 mph: 7.8
- Standing 1/4-mile: 11.8 sec @ 125 mph
- Top speed (drag limited, mfr's claim): 198 mph

- 70-0 mph @ impending lockup: 144 ft
- Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.01 g

- EPA city driving: 16 mpg
- EPA highway driving: 26 mpg

----------

As for solid lap times at racetracks, the SLR does top the Z06 by two seconds at both the Top Gear test track, and the Nürburgring as well. I would be willing to best however that a change of tires on the Z06 would help the car a bit, and the suspension needs to be tightened up just a tad. Other than that, smaller tracks are going to be tilted more twards the Vette than the SLR, due to it's better handeling abilities and faster acceleration times.

...But for the Lamborghni comparo... Well, its all Z06 once again...

YSS I take issue with the C4 comment, I owned one of those and it was TERRBILE. And it wasn't even very fast either, my VR4 was much faster. The C4 is cramped, feels like you are driving a canoe, and has the worst ride of any car I've ever driven...this includes the GTS Viper. :sly:

Huh? One of us has out of date pictures, then, because the Euro-spec Corvettes I've seen all have an orange-ish rectangle inside the two outer taillights which aren't there on Stateside 'Vettes.

unless a Z06 is a tacuma in deguise i dont think so

Corvettes are sold under Cadillac dealers in Britain. Check it out:

I don't have out of date pictures, I have a Bauer and Millet showroom that I see regularly that has a Z06 in stock ;).

I'm disappointed in the Z06 then. The SLR weighs a crap load more, and the 0-60 and quarter mile times are still equal.

The Murcielago was never built to compete. It's something like the SLR, without all the luxury features, and more supercar than GT.

The Z06 has a power to weight of 352bph per tonne, the SLR has a power to weight of 354bhp per tonne, so if your going to start *****ing power figures between the two, there you go. It really should be a suprise that the SLR is a faster car on a track, despite the fact it's heavier, a lot heavier. Also the SLR is a much better road car than the Z06 and thereabouts on the track, faster but it's not a world of difference, but then so it bloody well should be better than the Z06 overall, at least as a car for the person where price doesnt play much of a part.

At the Ring the SLR is 2.9 seconds faster than the Z06 and the Z06 is 0.1 second faster than the Murcielago, so the new LP640 should be quicker, but why always compare these premium supercars, most of the time they are faster or thereabouts, but so they should be. What I'd love to see is a T440R and Z06 shootout, two similar car's, the T440R is the more expensive of the two mind (even in Britain, now isn't that a change) but I bet it'd be one hell of a shootout.

Exclusivity is lacking, but you can say that with other MB and BMW too. There are lots of them on the road, but everyone still does not fail to notice one.

Also take into consideration that some people are not willing to pay a $450,000 CDN premium over Z06 to get the "exclusivity".

I think that's mostly because 90% of the world's people do not have $450,000 to spend.:sly:

It wouldnt take much to get the Corvette to top the SLR, and being as close as they are, I would presume that the difference would come down to driver.
