But the white is reserved for backup lights, isn't it?

Reverse lights come on white (un painted globe), indicators still flash orange because the globe is coloured orange.

...Remember the roof problems?

Leftlanenews.com
General Motors has recalled its 2005 and 2006 Corvette models after receiving 21 complains about roof panels detaching from the car at high speed. The problem is believed to be related to the adhesive used to attach the panel. The problem was first reported on a number of Corvette online discussion forums and websites like Leftlane News.

Thats good. I wonder how many owners have had the problems, and how many of the Corvettes are going to get the full-replacement roofs... BTW: It isnt a Z06 problem, it is on the coupe models only.

...So there was a Sting Ray, but it was not what we thought it was...

The much-rumored “Blue Devil” Corvette will use the Sting Ray nameplate, according to AutoWeek. The $100,000 model is expected to offer a supercharged 7.0-liter 600-hp V8. Last month, GM’s head of performance cars Tom Wallace confirmed that the company will build the car. In January, Motor Trend claimed GM would use the Sting Ray name for a new Kappa-platform Chevrolet positioned above the Pontiac Solstice.

superfast
I think the Blue Devil is a cool idea, even though the Z06 is already crazy fast. Dodge's SRT boys are gonna have their hands full with this one:crazy:
Maybe not. The Diamondback concept, aided by McLaren, is being reworked and could go production a year or so.

As for the Sting Ray Vs. the LP640, I think Chevrolet might be underestimating them this time around. Every review so far has noticed the car is incredibly more race like. A factor on the Corvette's side maybe the low difficulty of shifting compared to the "brutalness" of the Murcielago.

I don't think they would be underestimating anything.

The numbers alone are absurd, 600 Hp, god knows how much Torque a supercharge will crank out of that thing, the 500 Hp, 3200 lb version hits 60 in 3.5, what will this do it in?

As long as they can get the power to the pavement, I don't think it will be hard to call it a full fledged supercar.

I don't think the 0-60 times can be lowered much more, maybe down to 3.2-ish, but top speed is certainly going to go north of 200MPH, a first for a production Corvette. It's probably going to come down to the gearing of the car, and just how much crap they take out of the interior. GM and Chevrolet have the means of doing so, and they are probably going to do it, but I doubt they are going with a Supercharger when they could easily pull an extra 100 BHP out of the LS7 as-is.

What worries me more than anything is how they are going to get rid of the "twitchy" feeling that the suspension gives off, according to so many magazines that tested the Z06. Not that it is bad, as it really isnt, but may as well go for it, no?

I'd hope that it winds up as a thinly disguised track car.

As close to a stripper as they can get it.

Just a stripper with a heart of gold...or raging violent aluminum, as the case may be.

I don't know, but my guess is they'll keep the Sting Ray name with Corvette.
The 3 words have always been together.

But I must say, it's an interesting name to chose after seeing the C3 (?) one for so long. It's body style just fit that of the name Sting Ray.

No, it would be a Corvette Stingray if they did this.

I'm still keeping my fingers cross for a Kappa Stingray.

If anything, a Super Vette should be a Mako, but an SS would still provide a better "Halo" effect for the rest of the SS lineup.

The 0-60 of the new killer Vette will not be notably quicker than the Z06, but the acceleration after that should start to widen the gap between the two. I mean 3.5 seconds is already fantastically quick and as the power increases the advantage it gives decreases, ie a 100bhp car will hit 60 in say 14 seconds, give that car another 100bhp, now it does it in 9 seconds, give it another 100bhp and it won't knock another 5 seconds off. 3.2 is possible and I wouldn't put it past them.

Eh? If your referring to my analogy it was simply to make a point, it's just an example not based on any real car.

I don't erally like the idea of downgrading the Z06. It's built quite a reputation and was is named after a race car. We don't need 4 different Corvette coupes--the base, Z51, Z06, and the Sting Ray. The Sting Ray was a street car, and it should be the name of the Z51, to get rid of the package name. The Z06, I think, should stay on top and promote its racing heritage.

Maybe, but don't forget the Stingray was also made into a race car.

This is absolutely lovely news. It's about time the Stingray tag resurfaced (pun not intended).

Perhaps, but then again I've talked to guys who actually own and run the things at tracks at Corvette Forum, and many are finding the "twitch" an almost complete non-issue. The caveat is, obviously, that the extra power of the Stingray may MAKE it more of a problem without suspension re-tuning.

It's a good thing that they decided to use the StingRay name for a Corvette. But yeah, as keef noted, I don't think there should be 4 different variants of a coupe.

Er...there's only 3 variants, if you want to be REALLY strict. "Z51" is just an option number for the base C6. It's a bigger change to the car than, say, getting Onstar, but it's not officially its own model.

There are more than four versions of the Corvette:

- Convertable: Base, Magnaride, Z51
- Targa/Coupe: Base, Magnaride, Z51
- Hardtop/Coupe: Z06, Sting Ray

Back in the day, there were quite a few more models that that. Not only did you have the different body styles, but then you had to choose an engine, many of which came with only one suspension, and vice versa.

...Keep in mind that before now, the Sting Ray was the title given to every Corvette from 1963 to 1982...

Which gives more option but then it will confuse customers and raise the price because there are so many different variations of the car that so many parts are required to assemble one.

That's the reason why makers are trimming down their line and consolidating similar packages into one. Easier for them.

well, some of the makers aren't trimming...

Eh, from what I've seen most guys who buy cars like this have a really good idea of what they want from it. It probably wouldn't be terribly confusing. And this is the way it's been for a while, and the MSRP is still what it is.

I don't see how the Corvette line is confusing at all. Quite frankly, a large number of Corvettes you see on the road are going to be either Z51 or Magnaride models, as no one in their right minds ever buy the "base" version.

Adding one more performance option to the lineup doesn't mean anything in the world of sports cars. How many variants are there now of the Gallarado? How many were there on the 360? The M3?

...Maybe it is because I'm a Corvette guy, but I really don't see what the problem is...

I'm not complaining about it complicating the Corvette line right now; but in the past there were a trillion options available for Corvette that almost made each one unique. There were only two variation of F360. Spyder and Coupe, isn't it?

GT4_Rule
Modena = Coupe.
Challenge Stradale = yeah it's a variation I forgot about.
F1 = huh? ;)

I thought the name Modena wasn't assigned to the first batch of coupes. Huh.

And I'm pretty sure I've heard at least one review tacking "F1" onto the model name. I'll look for it.

Well, these are the differences that I know of:

- Coupe (Modena)
- Spider (Convertable)
- Challenge Stradale (Racing)

...and I would almost consider the options of a true manaul and F1 gearbox entirely different cars as well, as they offered up two different flavors of the same car.
