It wouldnt take much to get the Corvette to top the SLR.
how do you work that out  and then again the money you put in the vette to help it top the SLR,put that same amount into the slr and it will totally destory it

I don't know, but he has a good point.

For just $200K, I'm sure you can get the Z06 to beat it.
Many Z06 mods out make great power for the money, but then again, there is Mercedes' plans to make the SLR sportier.

true but just flash the ECU on the SLR and up the boost then you get well over 700BHP as we seen with the SLK-R

oh and found this ;)

apprently if there was one it would have been at the detroit motorshow in january.

Well, the Z06 is still plenty I guess. Besides, if someone's that desprate from a Blue Devil, I'm sure they can just get some aftermarket job done.

Z06 already pleases most of the enthusiasts. People asking for more power is just insane. I mean, how would the car even put the power down onto the road without AWD?

Umm, that story is from September 2005... Quite a while before my first post with the confirmation of the "Blue Devil"...

Take a look over at LPE (Lingenfelter Performance Engineering), and they offer two seperate options on the Z06:

- 616 BHP: $5,495.00 (Matches the output of the SLR for $375,000 LESS)
- 800 BHP: $45,995.00 (Betters the SLR with 185 BHP, still for $314,000 LESS)

lol@the comment about putting the same money you put into an SLR to make a Z06 go fast.

You could get a few Z06's, tune them up to be faster than an SLR, and probably STILL spend less than you would on a single SLR.

Not to mention, the SLR is Auto Onry, HUGE strike against to me, it isn't a Sports Car even, it's just a big fast GT.

Anyone can hop in an SLR and crack off an 11.7 1/4mile, put it in launch mode, zing the engine, and the car does the rest for you.

If you haven't heard me rant about them before, I'm not big on "Speed Appliances" much.

Defeats the purpose to me, cars that you actually have to be able to drive to handle sound fun, TVR's, Z06's, GT3's, CCX's, etc.

So... youre supporting me, right?
Who cares, the Z06 is 200 G's cheaper.
I'm supporting both sides to a degree, the Z06 does what it does great, the SLR is a better car. The people that buy the SLR don't care that it's so expensive. People will buy a Z06 for different reasons to buying an SLR.

The thing about the Z06 'ring time is that it was done on an empty track and engineers changed the suspension setup specifically for the track. How fast would it have been with the public on the track at the same time and with stock suspension setup?

Comparisons like this are pointless because I could just point to a Evo 8 FQ that with some money thrown at it would be faster than the Z06 and SLR for less money.

Or how about the my ultimate card, the Ultima GTR that would annalihate everything for performance to money ratio.

As would a Radical SR8 most Caterhams and Westfields, the JP1 etc. Like I keep saying, power and speed are not the ultimate buying guide to what makes a car a better car or a better choice purchase.

exactly, as otherwise instead of the 3 series being one of the best selling cars in the UK, all those people would have spent theyre £30k on a caterham or TVR instead.

No, you can really get a 600 bhp new C6 Corvette that is running and has no rust or defects for $5500
It's on top of a new C6. Note it's a performance pack.

so do they offer a better interior, cruise control, sat nav, better suspension etc for that price?

^^^Well, cruise control is standard on the Z06 to begin with. Sat nav is an option on the standard Z06 as well. Updated interior? What for? New suspension? If you wanted it, do it yourself... Lingenfelter is confident that the suspension is good enough on the Z06, so they arent going to change anything.

Know what I call updated interior on a car like that?

Stripping out everything non-essential, replacing what I can with cold CF, putting in CF buckets, and the lightest Rollcage I could find.

Luxury=Portliness, Portliness=The Enemy.

maybe so but your saying spending 40 odd k on a z06 is better than the SLR which the z06 never will be,overall the SLR will own the vette in any and every way
i.e. performance,practicality,driveablity, braking ,handling etc

I'd take a tuned (hell, maybe even stock) Z06 over an SLR any day.

The Z06, stock, is a better sports/supercar than an SLR.

The SLR is a better Grand Tourer than the Z06.

They are not the same type of car.

You're basically saying that the Porsche Cayenne is better than a Honda Fit, but where everyone else was praising the fits mileage and practicality, you're talking about the comfort and 0-60 of the Cayenne.

The SLR is a big, fat, uberluxobarge with a 5 speed automatic for god's sake.

The Z06 is a trimmed down, purposeful, ubersports car with a 6 speed manual.

Yes they are both FR with V-8's, yes they both produce more than 500 Hp, no they don't really have anything else in common except the use of Carbon Fiber.

Compare the Z06 to something similar at least, like, a TVR, and I wouldn't have an SLR even if I had the money, noone needs THAT much of a Phallic Replacement, do they?

It depends what you want, if you jsut want better track performance, you can make the Z06 better, but ultimately if that's all you want there are cheaper and faster track cars around. If you want the Z06 to be an actual better car than the SLR you mught as well rip it apart and start again, the SLR is different kind of car made on a different budget aimed at different people. The cabin of an SLR is a nice place to be, I've been there (NEC Motorshow 2004) the cabin of a Z06 isn't. The suspension on an SLR allows it to corner superbly well, but at the same time it absorbs the bumps and humps and ditches of our UK roads very well too. The Z06 doesn't, it works on the track exeptionally well for it's price, better so in that regard than the SLR, but to the SLR buyer, price is less relevent. The brakes of the SLR are quite possibly the second best on a road car, in the world if not the best, the best I would argue could well be thoes on the Veyron. The SLR is a more refined Grand Tourer the Z06 is an unrefined track monster, they don't really step on each others toes.

EDIT: Didn't notice the conversation stretched onto another page, but Onikaze summed it up quite nicely.

Considering how early on that test was, for all we know the setup used there IS the stock setup on the mass-production models.

Live4speed: I saw the weird taillights in photos from Evo, somebody's custom job, and some other European magazine (might've been German). I swear, there was an orangish rectangle in the outer headlights.

After seeing the Z06 beat out the regular Murcielago, I'd like to see the Blue Devil run against the LP640 version. That would be an absolutely glorious duel. 👍

I think the Blue Devil is a cool idea, even though the Z06 is already crazy fast. Dodge's SRT boys are gonna have their hands full with this one:crazy:

If GM sold the car in Australia they would have to do something like that to the taillights, we can't have red indicators/turn signals by law.

GT4_Rule
That sucks...red turn signals look better than some yellow/orange patch in middle of nowhere.

We can have clear indicators aswell aslong as the globe flashes orange.
