"Blue Devil" News: Test Details Roll In

lol I didnt mean it. There are several cars out there with the xtreme.extreme moniker. All im saying is that blue devil would be so cool.

I never liked the 'extreme' name because we got a exteme packaged Ford Festiva that had a ugly body kit which a guy I know bought (Extreme Festiva) and he thought it was the best race car ever. Now I get bad memorys from 'Extreme'.

I would prefer GM to call it something more original, instead of falling back on previous Corvette names like Gran sport, ZR-1, ZL-1, L88 etc

I do love the name Blue Devil.

What he said ^

A ZL1 or ZR1 or L88 or GS would make someone out there unhappy as that is just taking a limited edition model run and making it less special.

There has only ever been one Corvette SS last I checked, and noone got to buy one.

You know, no matter what GM does to the Vette it will never gain worldwide respect. Even if GM stuffed a V16 under the bonnet and NA tuned it to 1200bhp and sold it for $75k USD Europeans (mostly anyway) would still hate on it and refuse to give it some respect. Conversely I think it's about time for a GM sourced V10 with 600bhp NA tuned for the next ZO6 and hopefully the C7 will use an NA tuned LS7 with at least 520bhp while still maintaining a 17-18mpg rating. [/rant]

Now for the specific topic, is it possible to say that the Blue Devil will compete with the Enzo, CGT, and Zonda directly? I'm curious to know what it's ring time would be if pushed hard. But having said that, why does GM bother with this? The ZO6 is more than enough--shouldn't they spend thier R&D money on sprucing up other current models? Is it too much to wish for a new "Z" trim for the Cobalt? Or how about using the money to develope saloon AWD systems? Or even *gasp* develop better interiors? Yes the Blue Devil is sweet as hell, but my question is "why bother".

No, I do not for one minuet think the Blue Devil will be fast enough to compete with the Enzo, Carrera GT and Zonda F.

Just curious. Why?

Just curious. Why?

You know why. Just look at all the TVR vs Vette discussions just on this forum alone. I base my opinion on what I've seen on many forums including this one--especially when the ZO6 is mentioned all the Vette bashers come out of the woodwork and it all starts again. But, keep in mind just because I am German doesn't mean I'm on either side--I'm looking in from outside the box really. I just needed an avenue to vent a little frustration and this seemed like the thread to do it. I still think the "Blue Devil" is pointless, the ZO6 plainly competes with most supercars and a few "hypercars"...whether or not anyone chooses to accept it or not it's a fact. May not be pithy but hope it gets my point across well enough so no one misunderstands my meaning. 👍

You know why.

No, I don't. That's why I asked.

I can't think of any reason that you might suppose that (mostly) Europeans would hate a Corvette no matter what it was like.

I actually think most Europeans, at least the one's that are aware of the Vette, think the Vette is a pretty cool car, it's a kid's that arn't old enough to drive that have access to this wonder called the Internet that tend to be the one's that bad mouth car's they will probably never drive.

Well ok then, if you don't then the rest of the post hopefully should explain where I'm coming from. If not, no big deal. Last time I'm mention it since we've pretty much covered this topic. Cheers. :sly:

Yes - I've read an awful lot of Corvette vs. everything - with awful being the operative word. But how you turn this into some European mass anti-GM feeling escapes me.

I'm asking why YOU state that (mostly) Europeans would hate any Corvette no matter what it was, simply because it's a Corvette. It's quite a staggering statement if you take a moment to think about it.

On the german car forums they rate the corvette, for what it is. However in the Uk it wont get much respect due to the price that theyre selling them for, and then theres also the fuel economy.

I think the vette is similair to the skyline. So many fanboys out there with the constant ZEE OH SIKS and OMG SKYLINEZ RULEZ can get very annoying to us normal folk.

And lhd only, but they're still seen as cool car's, just not many people are willing to get one here for thoes reasons. It's like when American's start going on about how much Carkson hate's American car's, it's complete rubbish.

My sig - ZEE OH SIKS :sly:

The reason for the high price of Vette in UK is due to the duties you guys have, the fact that it has to be transported across the Atlantic, and the conversions importers must make to make the Vette road legal. It isnt meant to compete with the likes of SLK55 AMG and TVR Sagaris. Z06 is only around $75,000 USD but those factors mentioned above push the UK prices to 49,999 Pounds (last summer's issue of Car magazine using Corvette hardtop, not a Z06) which is way too expensive.

Blue Devil:from what ive found, it will be a supercharged 600-650hp Zo6 with carbon fiber components. (as reported by Autoweek in a recent interview with General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz.) With a curb weight around 2900 lbs. and a price tag starting at about $100,000 (extremely low price for such a fast car) the European competition should be breaking into a cold sweat!

There is no denying this thang will drop jaws with amazing performance but the best --and worst-- part is the price tag. The price is the best part in terms of having an obtainable super car for non-millionaires. However, the worst part is the absence of status and exclusivity that comes with an exotic super sports car's astronomical price tag. Price it too low and the Blue Devil will never shake that second tier reputation no matter how good it performs. Bargains are for the frugal minded and in the realm of supercars this doesn't mix. It is well known that GM has the capability to build amazing cars of such caliber but in the midst of financial difficulty the Blue Devil is a bit inappropriate. GM should stop trying to shed light on its model line by creating an artificial halo effect from an affordable super car. Instead they should concentrate more on anticipating consumer tastes and make desirable products as a result. And I'm not talking about making more SUV's.

The C6 doesn't need much to make it legal in the UK, US law's are strickter than ours for production car's. The standard C6 Vette over here costs the equivelent of over $90,000 USD, thoes charges do not ammount to nearly that much extra, tbh though, the price isn't incredibly bad for the UK, it's still cheaper than an M3, but the car's that it compete's with more directly are most of the time, cheaper, the kick in the nut's is the lhd only when it comes to the UK, though I have to say, the interior leaves a lot to be desired as well for a 50 grand car. The vette is like the Skyline in that it has fanboy's, but so does any iconic car.

Nope, it's not, I actually got the prices mixed up with another model. The M3 is cheaper than the C6, but the C6 is the same price as the Sagaris and the RS4.

Nicely said. There is always a side effect to something...

And you said you're just 12?

Very nice post, and definately rep. given for that!👍

Cool, rep points. :D Thanks everyone.
@TVRfan: That makes more sense. Id rather have an RS4 tho. Hmm though Ive always loved TVRs. CURSE YOU, EUROPE, WITH YOUR TVRS, STREETLEGAL RACECARS, EXIGE S, AND ADORABLE LITTLE MINICARS!!!!!;)

By the way, did any of you read the most recent issue of MotorTrend, starring Hennessy venom SRT10 coupe (1000-something hp), Steeda 'Stang, and of course z06, among with a bunch of other American 750+hp supercars?
I assume not since I know a place that gets it 2 months early, its like the July issue or something.
Well they did another standing mile with the z06 and a bunch of 750-1200 hp cars, even crazy-faster then the last one that I think was Road & Track. Youve got to check this out!

Its the one where the mighty Z06 gets its azzzz kicked. Hard. Very, very hard. :D
Its a long fall from the top.... though the Z06 wasnt really at the top. The Ford GT and Saleen S7 TwinTurbo were (remember this is American only cars).
Anyway, check it out!
Heres some specs in advance:

You think it annoys you normal folk? How about the genuine enthusiast that have to put up with the young fan boys then the 'normal' folk come in and bash the car because they are sick of hearing the fan boys. Its a lose - lose situation.
