Whats wrong with wanting a car that has soul? Thats why so many people choose the 3-series over the IS, G35, etc...

I'm glad Alfa Romeo is going to be on sale in the US for Callendar Year 2007, finially some truely soulful cars will be available once again...

May have soul but the shield grille just kills me, especially on older models.

The G35 has soul. Though not as much as the 3. But I'd prefer a G35 over the 3. Alfas for sale here? Cool!
Wait... isnt this thread supposed to be about the Blue Devil?

It's not people liking a car that has soul that annoys me. What annoys me are people who dismiss the Corvette's performance and claim that it has no soul, or legacy. Right, it's only one of the longest-running sports car models in the world...

I think it is currently the longest-running nameplate that is still in production (constant production), uses an engine design that dates back to 1955, and there are those leaf-springs...

The Corvette is what it is, an American icon, if Europe or Asia likes it or not. It is cheap, fast, and looks damn good. Thats why it is probably my favorite car as only the Camaro and the Jaguar XKE come close.

I suspected it was, but I wasn't entirely sure. :)

I'll drink to that.

Perfect statement!

FWD Alfa?

Blech.

About those CGT times, where are they from?

I've never seen a CGT crack off less than a 3.7 0-60 run, much less a sub 11.5 1/4, and the weights I've seen listed for the CGT and Z06 were varying by a couple poinds, not 100 Kg.

Was the CGT stripped out before the test?

Cause, that would be just a little biased, dontcha think?

You need color= before blue, and /color instead of /blue.

people don't dismiss the vette because it doesn't have soul..

it's because like so many other cars, you see about 15-20 of them on any given day...No not z06's..but C6's in general.....Same for C5's....

Rarity plays a large part in people "liking a car"...And the fact that a z06 looks 90% identical to the base C6(and not many people can tell the difference) but it costs 70,000 dollars...

Not so much here, but if you visit other boards, you'll see it a LOT.

Corvettes are pretty rare here. I live in Ohio, and I've only ever seen ONE C6, a base model. I've seen a few more C5s, but never 15-20 on one day.

BX: Ah. Still tied for sports car longevity, however. 👍

I live in PHX arizona..

in no way corvette capital USA..

but they're extremely common..and no 15-20 a day isn't an exaggeration..

and that still doesn't change the 70,000 price tag for a car that looks almost exactly like a 40,000 dollar one

I dunno, I don't think I could ever mistake one for the other, even from a distance. However, I'm pretty good at spotting details.

me too...but the general public isn't..

I mean hell, i remember somewhere on this forum a while ago people were saying the 350Z and Audi TT look alike.....

Some people are just daft....and the sad part is, the masses with the buying power and the daft are one in the same.

How does that work in Europe then, given that "Europeans" are apparently dismissive of the Corvette, even if it were Concorde with a Chevy badge, and we see one every third Ice Age.

No, you miss the point of the question.

You said that people are dismissive of it because it is so common. Earlier in the thread someone said that it's "(mostly Europeans)" who are dismissive of it. I don't see how both statements can be true simultaneously - though I appreciate that only one of the statements is yours.

It's been my understanding that, despite not seeing many in person, many Europeans are aware that the Corvette gets large production numbers at home. Not precisely the same thing, but close enough to elicit similar complaints.

whatever he just said..
I was just saying people dissmiss it in general(as in the US)..
I could care less about people dissmissing it in europe....

That's europe...

I think everyone loves the Vette, but if you had $150K would you rather have a Z06/Blue Devil, or something more unique like your own customized car, a Hennessey Venom, or a used Italian, British, or German car?

I'd take the Corvette, and it's not just from brand loyalty. It's cheaper than many of the other options, meaning you have more money to keep for maintenance. It'll also outperform a lot of them, which (as I've already said) I consider a major factor in buying a sports car. The customized car is probably the only option with the potential to be faster AND cheaper. The problem with a custom job is the fact that you run the risk of a voided warranty. So if something breaks down, it may be tougher to get it fixed.

DB9.

And Elegy - I think Pov meant something like a Radical SR8/Ultima GTR/Westfield XTR2/Donkervoort/Ariel Atom.

👍 Yep the DB9.
elergy
Please tell me you mean an actual race car.
No, I think he mean's like an RS3, Atom or R500 Evolution etc, track ready, road legal car's, proper track day car's.

I was afraid of that. The Corvette is perfectly trackable, and also much easier to get your hands on here than any of those cars (which is too bad, because I'd like an Atom).
