Wednesday would also be my preference, but Thursdays could work too. I'm in Pacific time (GMT less 8hrs) so times between 2-6am GMT woulld work best.

My M3 is limited to 275 km/h from the factory. I now for a fact that I can reach 275. But 275 km/h on the speedo might be translated to 260-265 km/h when reading from a GPS.

And the cars are not limited to any speed in GT5.

It was a mutual agreement among the German manufactors since the "HP-war" made the cars become like rockets in the past few years. I believe that the first speed regulated car (because of the "HP-war") came out in the end of the 90's or the beginning of the 00's. Not 100% sure tho...

Interesting. I guess yours is delimited?

Found on Wikipedias E46 M3 Entry

EURO Models
  • 343 PS (252 kW; 338 hp) @ 7900 rpm
  • Torque: 365 N·m (269 lb·ft) @ 4900 rpm
  • 0-100 km/h (62 mph) — 5.1 s for Manual and SMG, 5.5 s for cabriolet
  • 1/4 Mile — 13.3 s @ 104 mph (167.4 km/h)
  • Top Speed: 155 mph (249 km/h)(electronically limited); 174 mph (280 km/h) (delimited)
  • Skid Pad: 0.89g
US Models
  • 333 hp (248 kW; 338 PS)
  • Torque: 262 lb·ft (355 N·m)
  • 0-100 km/h (62 mph) — 4.8 seconds for Manual and SMG, 5.6 seconds for cabriolet
  • 1/4 Mile - Coupe: 13.0 sec @ 104 mph (167 km/h),[13] Convertible: 13.7 sec @ 104 mph (167 km/h)
  • Top Speed - Coupe: 155 mph (249 km/h) (electronically limited), 170 mph (270 km/h) (delimited)
  • Skid Pad - Coupe: 0.89g, Convertible: 0.81g

Regardless, since you say they aren't limited in the game I guess we should do some Sarthe/Ring runs to record all the top speeds.

Have you driven a car "in to" the limited speed? I can tell you that you really feel that it's limited. The engine kind of "dies".. It's very obvious when driving and reaching the limited speed. On a car that is not limited, the acceleration kind of fades away before reaching the actual top speed, but when reaching a limited speed, the decrease in acceleration is instand and you can clearly feel it (at least in the more powerful cars). If a 330i is limited, you might not feel the limit in the same way as in the M3 since the acceleration is close to 0 in a 330i at that speed. In an M3, the acceleration is still pretty strong, and I think that an M3 E46 could reach 295 without the limiter. Though I have not driven one without the limiter yet, so I can not say with 100% accuracy. But as far as the limited M3 goes, I know for a fact that the limiter kicks in around (could vary, depending on what car you drive) 275 km/h.

Just because the manufactors say that the cars are limited to 250 km/h does not really prove thet they actually are. My M3 is not delimited, and still reach 275 km/h. But the actual speed if you used a GPS would probably be around 265 km/h even dough the speedo says 275.

The speed shown is not "actual" speed. Some of the Mercedes modles base the speedo thru GPS, and is therefore correct. But as far as M3 E46 goes, the speedo is a "happy speedo" if you understand what I'm trying to say. :)

What times of day are you considering? I would really like to know if our time zones are close enough for me to participate.

The events must start between 2:00am and 5:00am GMT for me to be able to make it.

My time zone is MST (GMT subtract 7 hours).

Wednesday at 2 GMT works for me, but works better if is at 1 GMT

Thank you

DiegoC

Ya im in CST (GMT minus 6) so it should work out fine for ya. I would like to run the races around 2:00-3:00 (GMT), about an hour race with 10 minute qualifying.

Good to hear. :)

Anyone up for a practice session tomorrow night around 2:00am GMT?
Can't make it anymore.

Do you have an M3 or a CSL? Perhaps the CSL is limited a little higher?

I get what you're saying... I like it when manufacturers do that. They undersell the top speed in a way to keep you out of trouble. So you look down at the speedo and see that you are going 5 over the limit, but you are actually at the limit. That way you can avoid tickets if you tend to drive a little higher than the limits.

Tire wear, tire and wheel changes (upgrading to aftermarket) also change how your speedo reads. It might make very slight changes but speedo's are never spot on.

Just want to remind everyone about the BMW Series voting thread. The link is on the OP, scroll to the bottom of the OP and you'll find it. Please take a few minutes to place your votes. A new poll will be up tomorrow, I'll keep the poll's refreshing daily. Also, if i haven't got your PSN on the signup list please copy the list and update it with your PSN on it (if there's 16 people signed up, add yourself anyway). I hope that Wednesday or Thursday sounds good for everyone (this isn't finalized). Also I would like to hear comments on my proposed points system (it will be readjusted for 16 drivers should we actually have 16 people).

Thanks

I'm aware of that issue, and what you need to watch out for is when upgrading to wheels/tires with a larger overall diameter. Too large and your speedometer will now be underestimating your speed. So when you think you're going 5 over the limit you may actually be going 10 over. It's smart to have your speedo recalibrated if you plan to use larger wheels.

@ Graham Trismo

It's a M3 Comp. Package.

A standard E46 M3, but with some details from the CSL:
19" magnesium wheels
suade steering wheel with "M-track mode"
Steering ratio (more direct steering)
Stiffer springs
Bigger brake discs (345mm instead of 325mm)

I also added:
CSL front
CF grill
CF side vents
CSL diffusor
Blacked out turn indicators
Last part of the exhaust changed to a 15 kg lighter version
brake liquid hose surrounded by metal to make sure presure is up even after working the brakes very hard.
Racing Brake calippers

The topspeed is limited exactly the same on CSL, CP and standard. I've driven them all in to the limit. 👍

Well last night went well. :D I was driving my shiny new Z4M, and pretty much wiped the competition. Sorry guys, but I won three out of three races that I participated in, and I was driving the "slow" car. ;) These cars are amazingly even, and it was really fun. So sorry redcouch and Denilson, but I think a general PP limit will work just fine. 👍

Oh, and I was 5PP under the limit too.

If I'm gonna compete I'm gonna use my best car. Not just my best M3 but my best car. It's such a fun car to drive.

Agreed... But you get a 300kg penalty! Haha jk. Ya I like just a general PP limit. We can do all the testing and tuning we want and might never find exactly what we're looking for. Now we have to determine what the PP limit will be.

From my last test with the correct tires and closer PP I showed that the three cars indeed are even in performance. It was your mistake to think I had any problem with things going your way.:)

Those three laps posted were all very solid laps in each car. Rome Reverse is a bit tricky, and hitting the blind left before the long straight mid way through the lap is what makes or breaks a good time. Honestly theres only tenths to gain from those times depending on how perfect you nail a perfect lap, so I consider these results to be pretty consistant and reliable. However, the CSL, as always, handled wonderfully and was super easy to set a solid lap, wereas the M3 07 and Z4M had the usual understeer. So theoretically with a tune the the two slower cars have the defiante potential to post closer times to the CSL. If you ask me, the way I set up these cars weights, power, and mods make them about equal in porformance. The reason the CSL shines every time is because at default it handles so neutral and the others have too much understeer. From this test I would say even PP or even weight/power could work for this league, but it could be in the way I set up the mods. Either way, throw in the fact that we will be racing endurance races with these slippery sports softs, and its going to come down more to the driver than the car in my opinion. I say lets race them with the regulations I have designated in this test.

Red,
Please refer back to my testing post... i think it's on page 10. I also put up very even times in my own test (testing the PP). I think either way we go about it, it WILL be fair racing. With just having a PP limit and a few "off limits" mods it will also be much easier to enforce while being fair at the same time. If we did decide to go with some sort of spec for each car I would have almost no way of enforcing it. I think for everyone it is just as fair and a lot easier to go with a PP limit.

I agree, the only way to spec each individual car is with exact weight, power, and PP. The only way to have a different setup and still meet the spec values would be to use ballast and power restrictor, which is more trouble than its worth I think. Any other mod that doesnt effect PP I dont know of any way to monitor, but thats moot since I'm fairly sure you will be allowing all the top powertrain mods and what not.

If you set a PP limit, and a power and weight target(say plus or minus 15 HP and kg for flexability) for all cars to follow I think it will be fine, yes. However, I was originally thinking if each car had different performance at the same PP level, we would have to have a set PP, weight, and power spec specific to each car. Seems when you put all the cars at a similar PP, weight, and power they are the same though, so I vote for that now.

Well, for me, it's was never a contest about whos suggestion to go by..

But to make a decition based on you winning 3 races against other drivers might not be the correct way to come to a conclution. You might be a very fast driver, right? :)

And on the other hand, you might be extremely slow.. What will happen when a fast driver uses the Z4 M with 5 more PP? :)

My apologizes, I shouldn't have assumed you would notice the two respective PSN accounts I listed underneath my avatar.

Not sure which PSN I should be using for this league, however my main PSN is EvoGT89, which I would prefer to use (attached to my game save data), and my other PSN account, GTP_EvoGT89 is purely used for WRS.
