My night was a bit of a disaster last night as well. I'll put up the times now, although I know I'm half a day late.

But now, it's time to announce the theme for April, starting April 4th.

April 4th is the start of RWD Month!

Go to the UCD with 40,000 CR and find a rear-wheel-drive car. Any rear-wheel-drive car. System rules go as follows. 1 ABS or no ABS at all, every other electronic aid off, manual transmission only.

For this time only, dirt and snow tires are not counted in your budget because this will mark the first time we will be going to rally courses!

However, not this week: you will instead be going to the Autumn Ring Mini. Good luck out there!

The Founder's Car specs for this month will come later.

Third overall, I'm very happy with that. I'm still struggling with the wet so we'll see what happens when it comes to me driving on dirt or ice. Congratulations to acsr421 again and good luck to everyone for RWD month! Does anyone know of a car list which specifies which cars can/can't have snow/dirt tyres fitted? I've done a search but haven't turned up anything.

I would urge anyone who is reading the thread but hasn't taken part in seasons one or two to join for season three, it's great fun.

Anyway, I'm off to the UCD...

I was all excited to buy a premium S15 then I noticed it's UCD cars only, damn. Guess it's UCD diving time.

Okay... I have good news...

I took my PS3 appart last night, heated the motherboard up, turned it back on... and it now works :D No idea how long it'l last this time though, I got six months out of it last time.

So, I'll be back for this season :)

Good on ya!

Hold on tight, today is when we begin RWD Month, and now I will finally reveal the April Founder's Car!

Hopefully the Founder's Jackpot will go to someone who isn't just dead last, as I originally envisioned the Founder's Car to be a wild card.

Here's the April Founder's Car:

1999 Silvia Spec-S Aero (S15): 13737 CR
High-RPM Turbo: 20000 CR
ECU: 1000 CR
Racing Exhaust Manifold: 3500 CR
Racing Catalytic Converter: 500 CR
Racing Air Filter: 450 CR
Total: 39287 CR

Finally got the car I was looking for. Oil changes aren't a part of the budget are they? What about engine and chassis refresh?

Oil changes aren't part of the budget, but...I actually hadn't brought the other two services into consideration.

At first engine and chassis restoration were not allowed, but now that I think about it, these cars are cheap and we're all fairly good GT5 players, probably sitting on a good amount of money.

So, from now on, oil changes, engine overhauls, and chassis restores are not part of the budget. You aren't required to do them, but if you believe it helps, then do them.

I've finally decided on a car! After testing out five different cars, I came to the conclusion that this one was best. It was also a car I originally dismissed the first time it showed up in the UCD due to its price. But it showed up again with much more mileage and was about 8,000Cr cheaper.

Finally managed to get the time to run a few laps. I'll be e-mailing the times shortly. It's been a bit quiet here. :nervous:

^ I was thinking that too. I hope its not just the two of us entering lol. This has been my favourite of all the seasons so far.

I hope not too, although it would be funny if it was. Including Airrider, we'd be like the Top Gear trio.

I have to say the first season is still my favourite. Although I'm looking forward to the dirt/snow stage this season, so it might sway my vote. :P

Heh.

The Budget Car Challenge: Ambitious, but rubbish!

Hell, yeah, we're even going to go to a dirt/snow stage so it's JUST like the Top Gear RWD Budget Challense!

I've sent my time, so there's four of us at least!

I've spent a lot of time trying to tune up my original choice of car, but every adjustment I made seemed to make me slower, and I realised that if I can't control it round the Autumn Ring Mini, I'm not going to do too well when it comes to driving off road.

The car I've settled on is a bit slower but I've kept it simple and just added some sports tyres, mainly to stop me messing about with the suspension and making a promising car worse. :banghead:

It looks like I'm out this round as work will keep me away from GT5 for most of the month. So good luck to everyone and maybe I can get back for the next round.

An announcement: I won't deliver a Founder's Jackpot this week just because my week has been a bit of a disaster and the Car didn't...inspire confidence...on the Ring Mini.

Powersliding it like a bit of a yob was fun though. Maybe a bonus Drift Trial would be fun, considering we're all driving RWD cars...

Keep your eyes peeled, everyone. I'm starting to like this idea.

If you're going to deviate from the usual time trials, why not structure the Budget Car Challenge somewhat like a Top Gear Budget Challenge? 💡

Just thinking aloud here, but seeing as you're doing 4 round seasons, this would work out quite well. You could have something like:

Week 1: Buy car, no upgrades, normal time trial.
Week 2: Upgrade the car with the remaining cash and then a fun event like drifting or entering a ridiculously impossible race and awarding points for not being thrashed by a whole lap?
Week 3: Rally time trial or wet time trial.
Week 4: A final normal time trial.

Since the number of participants seems to drop every season, this might freshen things up. :) As I said, this is just me thinking aloud.

Very true. I'll keep this all in mind.

Thank you, guys, you're keeping the Challenge interesting.

The three-way fight for RWD Month begins with our week's winner being McRoflSandwich. Congratulations.

Considering the Top Gear Challenge vibes that the Budget Challenge honestly has that I think are now due for playing up to keep things fun, I'll also start giving short introductions to every track.

It is acknowledged nowadays that many of the world's most famous speed and power cars are rear-wheel drive. How do your cars measure up?

We will be going to the High Speed Ring to find out.

Your next task will not only be to post your fastest time, but your highest speed, as well. Points out of three will be doled out for the fastest single lap time, and three more points will be doled out for the fastest speed reached. As the Ring is not an oval, this should make things interesting.

This will also mean that I will be handing out a three-point Founder's Jackpot this time: two points for the time that most closely matches mine, and one extra point for the maximum speed that most closely matches mine.

Good luck and good driving to all.

Wow, I genuinley didn't expect first. I love driving the Supra though. I'm liking the new twist though with posting your fastest speed too. Also, really looking forward to the dirt/snow event, should be fun!

I think VTiRoj's idea could work too though, could keep things fresh and inspire new people to join.

This is what I get for choosing power over tyres. HSR should work to my favour though. My top speed should be pretty high in the FD. :D

I didnt realise there's RZ Supra's for under 40k. Damn. Nice find McRofl.

looks like my strategy of going for tires over power is going to hurt me this round. who knows maybe my little mazda can surprise me.

I like how we've both chosen RX-7's, but then decided to choose opposite tuning strategies.

Haha, well I was unsure whether to buy Sports Soft or just stick with the Sports hard and spend the extra 8,000Cr on tuning. But, I went with the tyres in the end because the Supra's power is pretty high to begin with.

I didn't realise you could get them that cheap either! I was originally going to be running a RX-7, because I'd seen a Supra RZ, but it was about 35,000Cr. So it was way too much. But then looking through the UCD at a later date, I found one for 26,000Cr because it had a really high mileage. I think I got pretty lucky with it tbh

Crikey! I need to visit the UCD more often. My RX-7 was 29k after seeing a load of older models for about 30-35k. Then apart from a wing, most of the 11k spending money went on power. :P

See, I was unsure about how much difference the wing actually made... So I decided against one this time. You should do pretty well this round though, I'm guessing you're producing a fair amount of power seen as though you didn't buy any new tyres.

Airrider, I assume you want us to pause the game to take a picture of our highest speed also?

The RX-7 was the car I turned down because the power v grip v my driving skill ratio was about 6:3:1, if I'm generous to myself.

I like the ideas you guys are suggesting, it's a great idea to follow the Top Gear style of having rounds where the rules are so different one car will be perfect in one race and a bit of a nightmare in another.

An idea for future rounds could be to vary the performance points rating or weight or max HP in different rounds - maybe the winner has to add x amount of ballast for the next round, or everyone has to run at 50% power in one round, which would affect different cars in different ways.

Also, we could all choose our car for round one, then have to swap for round two, with the last placed person getting first choice. It might be making things a bit complicated though to organise this.

Anyway, good luck to everyone for round two, I'm off to the High Speed Ring.

Hi just noticed this thread and these top gear style challenges sound fun so would like to also take part if its not too late. A Mazda éfini RX-7 Type RS (FD) '96 turned up in my UCD last night for 20638 credits so will probably use it as its quite a bit under budget so still leaves 19362 for upgrades. Should I post a breakdown of cost of the upgrades I bought in thread or do we forward them to you Airrider in a mail?
