I'm just measuring it before the second corner, just make sure I can still take the second corner. I won't count the speed if I'm going too quick and I end up disqualifying my lap by hitting the wall. It doesn't count in my book lol.

Same. Although my RX-7 accelerates all the way to the end of 5th gear so it's not got much more to give even if I decide to not brake for the corner.

You could use the telemetry from the lap to display you top speed on entry of first corner as the lap time is also displayed on that screen then you would know that as long as time matches the time on leader board that lap the lap was valid and there was no contact with the barrier which is probably what I will do.
Bought some upgrades for car tonight and ran laps for about 45 minutes. I decided to take the Clarkson approach and use almost all of my remaining credits for power upgrades leaving the suspension standard and keeping the sports hard tires which came with car.
The car is quite twitchy and if you get on power to early mid corner you just end up spinning the rears and drifting the corner almost but its fun to drive and is fine as long as you are patient on throttle. Will probably wish that I went for upgraded suspension or at least a wing for more downforce when we move to a track with more corners though.

My time is in now too, I don't know how I'll do against everyone but I'm happy it's as good as I can get out of the car.
Getting a photo of the top speed was tricky because I could get the same top speed lap after lap, but only for a fraction of a second each time before braking. My reactions on the pause button meant I kept just missing it, in the end I had to video the replay and grab a frame from that!

Also just after sending in my times and top speed along with pictures. I also had the same problem trying to grab a screenshot of top speed from replay so I ended up loading the replay in the data logger and then using that to get top speed on the lap.

Initial thats over the hispeed ring gave me 210 kph in the end of tye striaght... lap time 1:12 but i could improve it. anyway, sure I will be in this week's.

Ironically, I have read every post in the 22 pages of this thread, but still managed to miss something important, four posts up from mine. Maybe there should be a special "can't see the wood for the trees" award, I think I've got a good chance.

This week's Founder's Jackpot winners are egriffith45, who managed to EXACTLY match my speed of 161 MPH, and VTiRoj, with a time closest to mine: 1:19.552.
You get a joint prize: either half of the BAR 001!
Next comes the track everyone's been anticipating.
Rear-wheel-drive cars, of course, struggle compared to FWD and RWD cars in bad conditions, especially snow. How well can you handle your cars on a track entirely made of snow?
You will go to Chamonix (the full track), Forward, and try to post the best time possible.
As always, good luck: sure, it might not help, but it doesn't hurt either.

The good thing about this round is that everybodys on the same tyres, but I feel my choice of car is going to let me down here. 430bhp + snow can't be a good thing haha. Let's see what happens

Agreed RWD on snow is alot of fun and I also spent entire lap apply varying degrees of opposite lock to try an keep car pointing in vaguely the right direction. Happy with time but think car is capable of lapping about 5 seconds faster at least in hands of someone with faster reflexes but I have reached the limit of my talents with this car using a controller so have just emailed best time from yesterday. Really enjoyed this week running though even if I did spend most of it pointing the wrong way.

Looks like I might have been first in sending my time in, it's a shame we don't get points for that!
I think I may be slowest this round, still, it's the fun of taking part that counts.
My snow-skills are gradually improving though and I'm finding that I can see an accident coming several seconds before I slide into a barrier - I just need to get the reactions to sort it out before the impact.

I originally set a time at some point last week. I tried again yesterday to imrpove it and the closest I could get was about 5 seconds off the pace. I think I was just trying too hard to go too fast and it just backfired on me. It is a hell of a lot of fun though.

Something has gone seriously wrong with my computer. It's broken; I should get one in the coming weeks.
Until then I am suspending competition until further notice. To make up for this, the RWD rules will continue. Depending upon when I get my computer, you can expect either one or two more events under the RWD rule scheme.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you can get up and running with a new pc soon. I think we all know the feeling when our computer finally gives up on us, I hope you haven't lost anything important.

Sorry as well to hear about that. We have all experienced something failing unexpectedly in our computers such as a power supply's or graphics cards and its such an inconvenience as we rely on them so much and don't realise until something goes wrong. Hope you have not lost any critical data off your hard disk.
