Budget Car Challenge

I absolutely hate this track now. :( The Challenger has no grip whatsoever on the banked sections so it just runs away from under me. Plus, because it's a 5 minute track, it's frustrating when it flags your lap. :grumpy:

I did manage a clean lap though, so I'll be sending that shortly.

I can echo much of that, I've been practising hard and have made a total of three clean laps. I find that because it's such a long lap, if I'm still running three or four minutes in, I start being way too conservative so I don't invalidate my time.

The worst part is the sloping run to the gravel hairpin section at the top of the hill - if I go fast, I can't get it stopped, if I slow down, the car is so slow that I have to turn left up the banking to vaguely stay in a straight line.

I don't know how fast the winning time will be this week, my three clean lap times are spread over 17 seconds, and I don't think they were anywhere near the maximum that could be done by someone driving flat out and accurately.

I know the section you mean. It was like trying to drive up a steep hill sideways. Then after that I had to brake ridiculously early so I wouldnt bodyslap the railings on the downhill run. :ouch:

I have to say though, the Challenger was a hoot to drive on dirt. Trying to keep 500bhp under control on dirt is fun. :dopey:

I had a good time with this one but I know what you mean about the careful driving on the last bit. One of my better laps was ruined by me drilling the guard rail as you come off the dirty onto the pavement.

Car handled better than I though on dirt but that's not to say it handled well. Found the steep downhill on the backside of the course very hard to control speed without slamming into a rail.

On one of my laps I managed to crash after the tunnel on the tarmac section at the end! I think the extra grip threw me.

Still, fun though, I wouldn't have tried a Camaro on this track otherwise.

Off the Bit

Exactly, I love that this challenge makes us do that. The Camaro was actually fun to take around there. More so than a rally car.

Certainly. I don't normally voice my opinion on the courses I choose for BCC events, but today, while posting the Founder's Time I figured out the true depth of the challenge I'm setting forward.

Some of your times are astonishing. How you managed to get your own times is beyond me.

Congratulations to all competitors this week for contributing to the closest BCC month ever so far!

Your next event will be from today to Friday, June 17, 2011 because I'm taking that trip on the 19th.

In American action television shows, old cop shows and equally old movies, wherever there is more than one muscle car, car chases are likely to break out, and all involved are going to go very, very sideways.

For your next test, you must emulate a car chase through a city by powersliding your way through a Drift Trial, Sectors Mode of Special Stage, Route 7 Forward. As usual, best score wins.

Damn so close! If only I didn't drive like a granny through some sections just so I wouldn't invalidate my time.

Drifting yay! 500bhp should be plenty. :D

Wow good race. I have a feeling drifting won't go so well. My only drifting experience is in Forza and this is just a bit different.

I find GT5 is easier for drifting, or I just suck at Forza.

Really? I guess what you get used to. I'll have to learn sometime I guess.

I find I'm generally all over the place on Forza, whereas on GT5 I can stay between the walls when drifting the 3rd sector of SSR7, which can I just say is an amazing feeling in my Challenger. :dopey:

It's difficult to get points in the first 2 sectors of SSR7, so I think the round will be won there.

Congratulations, very close between you two especially considering the tricky conditions and length of the track.

I thought I might be blown away but that was something else, I can't even imagine ever getting down to those times. Bronze isn't as impressive when there are only three entrants! Still, I'd better take a podium whenever I can, hopefully McRoflSandwich will be back this week. One day I am going to win one of these rounds*.

*But don't quote me on that.

I'm loving how close this entire season is for that matter. 2 points seperates first and last place. 2! Yeah I'm hoping McRofl comes back soon, we have a score to settle from last season. I've e-mailed my drift score to Airrider, hopefully my lone Dodge can out-drift the Chevy army. :scared:

Well, that was close between you two, VTiRoj and CMvan!

I hope to be back soon too guys! :D

I have the computer back up and running, I finally got round to reformatting that today. And my PS3's motherboard is currently sat downstairs cooling. Once it's done, I'll stick it back together, boot it up and let you know what happens.

Oh and VTiRoj, if last seasons drift battle was anything to go by, it should be reasonably close between the two of us :P Although that Supra I had last time was a dream to drift. It was epic.

Well I tried that drifting challenge a good 50 times now and my best score was my second attempt. I haven't got a clue if it's good or not but I guess we will see ;)

Oh and good luck mcrofl hope it works.

Well, I'm afraid its not good news guys... At first, everything seemed okay. But, it only lasted an hour before YLODing on me again :(

So, I'm definitely out of this for the time being anyway. I'm going to try to get a new console as quickly as possible, but at the moment I'm not sure when that might be. Hopefully I'll be able to borrow money off my parents to buy one, then just pay them back once I've worked a few more shifts :dopey:

So yeah, I will return at some point. I'll need to attempt to regain my crown haha :P

I think my RX-7 is a better drifter than the Challenger, but the Challenger's higher power suits SSR7 drifting so it's all good here. :D

Hope you get back into the season soon! 👍

Okay, it's time to announce the last round of the June Muscle Strain Budget Car Challenge, which shall take place from today, June 17, to June 24: next Friday.

I haven't gotten a Founder's Jackpot prize together yet because I'm preparing for my trip. And finally, I do have to apologize for this last drift challenge. Little did I realize what a headache it would be to try to drift the sectors of SSR7, and I will admit it was a mistake: I meant to bring you all to SSR5. At least it all ended up working out in the end, even though the big challenge was probably getting in the quadruple digits.

With the closest BCC score standing ever, it's time for me to put up a suitable finale to all this...so, here's my attempt to throw a curveball.

One place that muscle cars often gain a poor reputation is in European streets, particularly British ones. You will now go to the London Reverse course in dry conditions and try to pull off your best single lap time.

Seems I have the luck with the drift events, but 1 point away from overall 1st place again?! At least I've got another round ahead to try and overtake. I say try because those Camaro's are fast. :ouch:

VTiRoj that is an amazing score!

I don't drive well under pressure haha. Best of luck guys really is anybody's season.

Thank you! I got a bit carried away with the drifting I think. Way too much fun.

Nice win, although I'm glad everyone found it a challenge, I wasn't sure if it was a difficult course to drift on or if I was just being spectacularly bad at it (a bit of both it seems!).

It's very close going into round four, good luck everyone.

My Camaro REALLY doesn't like London... I'm driving like a grandma in some areas just to avoid voiding out my lap even though its a 1 minute track haha.

So... Today I bit the bullet.

I went down to my local Game shop and handed over £240 of my hard earned cash in exchange for a brand new 320GB PS3. Which means, I'm officially back in the competition! :D

Hopefully this time I'll be here to stay, as I hope the new Slim will be much more reliable than my old Fat.

Welcome back, if my maths is right you are still in with a shout at winning the competition overall, which would be quite impressive after missing two events. Hopefully your new PS3 is more reliable than your old one, at least with a 12 month warranty you won't be having to worry about DIY repairs for a while!

The strange thing I'm finding is that my first lap of a run seems to be fastest, even though I'm on cold tyres. I'm learning to hate the barrier on the exit of turn two (I call it turn two - it's the first right-angled turn anyway), lap-after-lap I'm coming to grief there.

My Challenger hated it but loved it at the same time. Really fun to slide aroudn London but at the same time, I rarely got out of 2nd gear.

My 250GB slim was £250 in November 2009. Damn it. Slims are very reliable anyway, so you'll be fine. :D:tup:

Grats on the new slim, I think they look better than the fats and definately more reliable.

This is track is a lot of fun but I found too it's my first lap that is my fastest. How does that happen?

Wow, its nice to be welcomed back, thanks guys :)

Yeah, I hope there's not going to be any DIY repairs for a while too

I'm liking the track choice for this one, I've just run around 20 laps. It took me about 10 laps to get back into it after not playing for nearly two weeks. I seem to have reached my limit now though I think. Not sure as I can push it much more, I keep hitting barriers now and invalidating my lap.

I'm dissapointed I missed out on the drifting event as I'd have liked a rematch against VTiRoj :P

Perhaps Airrider will add another drifting round for the next next season (I'm going to have to sit out of the next season, going on holiday for a month), for us to drift battle in. :D
