Can somebody please explain this?

You did turn your wheel a little left, and that is my finally verdict on this.

Just to visualise what is going on. The grey car is not driving straight. The red car is. The red car did not drive into the grey car. If the grey car was going straight, the red line would be exactly vertical:

Did you even watch the same video as me? The guy was telegraphing his intention to block the line repeatedly before the attempt. it was blatantly obvious, so no, it was not "simple" and yes it was obvious "exactly what the other driver was going to do"

I agree it should have been easy as he had the exit speed, but it was obvious the other driver was not going to let him simply pass.

I'm just saying you can't expect someone who is showing clear signs of blocking, to suddenly let you past because you deserve it

If this happened in the higher levels of motorsport BOTH drivers would be reprimanded, one for moving across dangerously, the other for not taking any REASONABLE action to avoid the incident. This is essentially the same as Nelson Piquet and Jean-Eric Vergne at this year's Monaco ePrix.

Yes, it's a clearly blocking move with the intention to force the other driver off, but the other driver should have backed off, just because it's a straight doesn't mean you absolutely must be flatout even if someone is in your way.

Nonsense, the gap was wide open, he made a clear move to pass. OP did absolutely nothing at all wrong. He didn't try for a gap that was closing, he went for a wide open gap that was then only slammed shut when his car was already half way up the other guys. He didn't try to block, he left the door open the when he realised the OP was passing, he rammed him off.

Okay so after reading through all the responses, there seems to be 3 distinct opinions on this incident.

1. The incident was entirely my fault. (I still don't see how some people can say this)
2. The incident was obviously the grey car's fault, and he's a dirty driver.
3. The incident was not my fault, but I should have backed off to avoid the situation.

I don't believe I was at fault. I believe the incident was due to the grey car's dirty actions. However, I do agree that I should have backed off in that situation.

With that said, the reason I posted this in the first place was to show a fault with the SR/penalty system. The point was I got an orange negative SR in that situation, while the opposing driver (grey car) did not. I clearly made sure to look at my HUD to see whether he would get penalized or not, and he never did.

I was about to write a whole argument about how the SR/Penalty system is flawed and whatnot, but I decided to create a new thread because I thought that would be more appropriate. Basically I believe that the SR system is flawed. I think most people would agree. However, right now not enough people are complaining about it. Look Polyphony is listening to the community, so if you want this to be changed then you need to voice your opinions. Right now, I just saw a lot of people trying to either justify the system or encouraging people to adapt to it, and I think that's the wrong approach. We need to complain and complain until PD finally attends to updates the system.

Anyways, here's the link:

Marshals and Stewards would blast him as well as the guy for not being smart enough to back out of it. He very clearly knew what the guy was going to do.
