I just witnessed one of the worst crashes in Indy history. Cars on fire, it was horrible. I never thought I'd be so shaken up by seeing something like this in person. I guess I might've felt it more 'cause I just watched Senna in theatres so the impact is really something else to see.

Someone's getting airlifted now, crazy. Hope every one comes out ok. Unfortunately Will Power (Mark Webber's friend) was involved and so the championship was just decided. Dario's a four-time champ.

Sorry if it's off topic, I just thought I'd share 'cause we're on a red flag right now and I know Owens and Brandon are big Indy fans.

I'm watching at home. Will is okay but Dan Wheldon is in bad shape and they think he was the one airlifted but not positive. I flipped to it in just in time to catch the end of the accident, I don't think I've ever seen so much fire in modern racing. Multiple cars were airborne and Wheldon ended up in the catch fence. This track is just too fast for these cars, I sure hope everyone survives this one. :nervous:

I'm watching the race on TV right now. I pray that everyone's alright.

I've been watching racing since 2003, at the age of 7, there's only been two accidents that have scared me. McNish's crash this year, and this one.

Yeah we're all hoping for the best. But yeah the track just got repaved and it doesn't have much character now, way too smooth.

They confirmed it was Wheldon that was airlifted. Pipa and Hildebrand are going to get checked for possible concussions but everyone else seems to be relatively ok.

It has been confirmed that Wheldon has died as a result of the accident. I would like to ask all my fellow Capp Cup drivers to run Dan's number 77 this week as a tribute to him.

+1

We'll miss you Dan.

Totally crushing, I can't believe it. I just got back from home. I saw him with my binoculars upside down and just thought he was ok... It was so sad to see it all. His family was here... there's just no words. I didn't know how to clam myself down, I was so distraught at learning of his death in the stands.

I can't imagine what that must be like. I've been going to races for close to 2 decades, I've seen some horrible accidents but never been at one where we lost someone. I've often thought about how it would feel and its not a good feeling, my sympathies are with you as well as his family. I'm honored that I got to see him in person for his last full race.

I would like it if we all ran with the number 77 this week and maybe even do a group photo of our tribute.

I suggest we do a 3 wide formation lap at Indy, like they did in the actual race.

Godspeed Dan Wheldon. I don't say rest in piece, because racers never rest. I bet he just out qualified Ayrton Senna and Dale Earnhardt in heaven.

I hope everyone is doing ok today. I'm having a bit of a hard time dealing with it, but as Tony Kanaan said "If he could pick anything in the world to do on his last day, it would have been driving a race car. And that's what he was doing." Keep the pedal to the metal Dan.

We do have a bit of business to deal with. I wanted to get this out for discussion yesterday but things got a little side-tracked. We did some testing on Saturday with the slipstream on "strong" to see how it compared to the pre-2.0 draft and the "weak" draft and the results were a bit surprising. The strong draft is still weaker than it was before Spec 2.0 and the biggest change (for the better!) is that when you pull out of the draft to make your pass you don't go by like a rocket. As soon as you hit that clean air you lose a bit of momentum and pass the lead car at a much more normal speed. This is how it should be and it's a great improvement. It also seemed that you had to be a little bit closer to the car in front for it to take effect, but not as close as the weak draft.

After our test races Friday at the shorter tracks it became fairly clear that these low powered cars will have a really hard time overtaking at short tracks like Tsukuba and Suzuka East without the help of the slipstream and the fast guys in the reverse grid race could have a hard time working through the pack cleanly. As has been mentioned, since we're already 2 Rounds into the season we want to make sure things stay as consistent as possible but we have kinda been caught off guard here.

I'm a big fan of realism but with the Capp Cup my main goal is more towards providing fun racing for all. So, here's what I propose for the remainder of this season and I'd like your opinions. I can do a poll if necessary but we're kinda short on time so hopefully we can just find a happy medium for the rest of this season.

• For Rounds 3 and 6, the Enduro's, we will use the "weak" slipstream.
• For Round 4 and 5, the Double-Header's, we will use the "strong" slipstream
• At the end of the season each driver will only be allowed to drop 1 Enduro and 1 Double-Header (to keep things balanced).

How does that sound? Any loopholes there I'm not spotting? Let me know your thoughts asap so we can make a decision for tomorrow's race.

Sounds good to me too! As we've only done two 'double-header' races so far, this shouldn't impact anyone, except those who miss a race night (looking at myself here!)

For future seasons we will probably pick a slipstream setting at the beginning and stick with it for the full season but this one caught us out, at least me anyway. I really did not expect a slipstream option in this update, or possibly ever. But I think it's one of the greatest additions they have made and I'm very happy about it!

As we discussed last week, changing things mid-season could have a negative impact on the points which we don't want. Since we haven't run an enduro yet I feel comfortable changing the slipstream strength for those 2 races but for the remaining double-header's we will keep them on par with the first 2 double-headers so the points will stay consistent. This will also give us the chance to thoroughly test both slipstream options so when we make a decision for next season we will have all the necessary data to pull from. 👍

Was that a Dale Gribble reference?!? 👍

I will be having a practice session tonight at Grand Valley Reverse so we can all get back in the Championship mindset. We will have the slipstream set to "weak" so this will be a final chance to test that out and get familiar with it. The lounge should be open sometime after 6pm EDT, I'll post details here.

I'm ready for Spa! Bring on the DLC!!!

If anybody's planning to come to the practice session tonight, please change your car number to 77. We will park outside turns 1&2 at Suzuka East and do another group shot, this time as a Capp Cup tribute to the late Dan Wheldon. I'd like to share this photo with the GTP community as we pay our respects.

Can we do one at Indy as well?

That would be a much better place. We can line up 2 or 3 wide at the yard of bricks. I have an all black Cappy with 77 on the side that we can put out front. Thanks Lancer. 👍

Got one of those yesterday. Now I gotta think about what to spend the change on.

I'll be saving mine for future GT5 DLC packages. My PS3 is pretty much exclusively a GT5 machine so I wouldn't really have anything else to spend it on.
