The race steward would be watching the timing board in watch race (with the help of others if there are too many cars on track). It's a very accurate way of qualifying and very realistic (and stressful).

Oh and  nascar

Oh ok, didn't think about that, that seems a pretty good option then! Cheers :)

No wonder I didn't recognise him then haha, never watched NASCAR... F1's more my thing :sly:

I believe it's Kyle Busch from NASCAR, he's won a ton of races but no championships. I met him several times when he was racing in a lower series that I took photographs for (before he was in NASCAR) and he's one of the biggest jerks I've ever met. And he was only 15/16 at the time. 👎

That kind of qualifying is fun, and I'm currently trying to figure out a way to do F1 style knock-out qualifying, but I want the Capp Cup to be more of a "pick-up race" type feel that you don't have to put a ton of effort into. With the large group we have it would almost work better to just have about a half-dozen hosts so we could hold races nightly and whoever can make it is free to race. No real points, no schedules to follow, qualifying isn't as big of a deal and maybe not even needed, just try to have Capp rooms open for several hours throughout the day using whoever's available to host. Hosts could do whatever kind of qualifying they wanted, or none at all. But having weekly races with points gives us all something to actually race for and provides the inspiration to practice and tune all week.

Anyway, room's open for practice now. We can try out the simple, 2 group format I described a couple posts earlier and see how that works. 👍

Yeah I know what you're saying about the 'pick-up' thing, keep it a bit casual. Maybe races every night would be a little overkill, I mean, I do like racing other cars too haha ;)

I reckon though a few little extra sort of exhibition races would be quite nice, just mess about, try a few gimmicks which don't need to be taken seriously, no points, just fun. TBH, I'd love to give hosting a go, but I don't know how much of me being in the UK will affect that, be it timezones or connections... probably both lol. That and my total lack of experience in this at the moment haha :dunce:

We're still using the old room that you made. iforce said that after you left, it went back up to 4 bars.

So it appears there might be a problem with me hosting room. Apparantly my room shows up as very weak and it effects the handling of the car is a bad way. Once I left as the host the room was better and it showed a signal strength of 4 bars.

Does anybody have any suggestions or things I can do to try to improve my signal strength and room quality? I usually have my room set on Race Quality: High and Chat Quality: Standard, but changing those didn't seem to improve things. I'm not real sure what esle to try.

If that is the case Brandon, I'd suggest you don't host...lol. No seriously, if it's possibly going to lead to random disconnects or worse, guys lagging all over the place, then I'd suggest for this week at least we make sure and get a solid host for the race. You can set up the room and then leave when someone else comes in and check the connection strength of the new host or try to work something with someone you already know can handle a room without incident, have them enter right after you, and then you can leave and come right back.

I hope you have a mic too Brandon as I think that's a definite must for a host to be able to bark out instructions on the fly instead of typing things out.

When it comes to qualifying, I have no problem with an open qualifying session, that's 20 minutes or so long. Even in a controlled session with say 6 cars at Tsukuba, it's possible to catch up to another car, especially if they have an incident and with a really short qualifying session of just 5 or 6 minutes, you could quite easily have your best laps comprimised with no chance to make it up. The key to open qualifying I think is the use of mics, to announce when you're coming up behind someone with a good run. If they are on a hot lap, they don't have to pull over and make way, but if they are just cruising around because they already wrecked their lap or because they made a minor bobble and their first split was down a half second, courteous drivers will pull aside to make room for the faster car.

After Brandon left GVE-r Brosif,SohnVonstig, waz, and jett-racer and i ran some awesome races. In one race Brosif and i took the checkers with the mythical interval of .000. I was credited the win but in photo mode it looks like i was 6 inches behind. For what its worth the S/F line is actually after the line on the track. With the map zoomed all the way in there are 2 lines.

The next race ended with me beating jett-racer by a huge gap of .001.

Run a wired internet connection and better internet. :D
The only difference I've noticed when the host has a bad, or slow, connection is other people lagging. I've never noticed my car feel different, but I'm ot saying it isn't.

I am wired when I play online, and I have the fastest/best connection my provider (Comcast) offers. I've never noticed much difference either but when everybody left one room and came to mine they all noticed a pretty big difference. I found this thread which seems to cover this topic and when I get home tonight I'm going to try some of the suggestions. From what I've read, if the host has a solid signal the rest of the room should run pretty smoothly.

So is everybody ready for the start of the season tonight?? I should have a room open for practice by 7:30pm EDT at the latest but will try to have it open before then. I'll post the details on here when it's open.

Who's going to be able to show up tonight? I'd like to have an idea of how many people to expect. 👍

Brandon

I should be able to come, but if I cant I will come on and let you know.

I won't be, exam tomorrow, infact that's why I haven't added anyone yet, to stop me from being distracted :) Should be good to go by the weekend though, most of my exams are over by then!

Nuts and bolts! I got screwed! :)

I am going to try to be there. I am supposed to go see Bridesmaids tonight with the GF but I am hoping to convince her to let us go tomorrow. Ahhh, the things you do for vagi... love.

Edit: I should probably register,

#2 BrosifDuder (BrosifDuder) Capri Blau / Passionate Pink
If Mikchi (Mikchi9789) doesn't show up to the races I would like to use #21.

Tuesday: yes
Friday: sometimes
Saturday: sometimes

hahahahahaha!!! 👍

I won't be there, but when did the Tuesday time get moved forward?

NVM i was looking at the poll times. lol

So far it looks like we should have at least close to 10 drivers for the first race, should be a nice looking grid!

Here's the schedule for tonight. I will try to have a room open by about 7pm EDT and it will be open for one last chance at practice for around an hour. At 8pm we will get ready to start qualifying and around 8:10 or 8:15 we will begin qualifying. The race will start immediately after that.

For qualifying, I will reset the track to clear the times and will ask half the field (I will type out the names) to enter the track for 6 minutes of qualifying (should give everyone 3-4 good laps). Try to keep a good amount of distance between yourself and other drivers. If you have an incident or off-track excursion, please try to stay out of the way of anyone on a hot lap behind you. After 6 minutes has passed I will ask them all to leave the track (returning to the lobby is fine) and will ask the second half of the field to enter the track for 6 minutes of qualifying. After 6 minutes has passed I will ask everyone to leave the track. Once this is done, I will ask everyone in the room to enter the pits and stay there while I hit the start button. Everyone must stay in the pits during the countdown and must NOT enter the track.

I think that should go pretty smoothly, nothing too complicated but it should be pretty accurate. If I need to clarify anything about qualifying or the schedule let me know. I'm looking forward to FINALLY getting the new Capp Cup underway!!

Unfortunately not. I won't be home until 10pm but I might pop in and watch if space allows. Will definitely be in next week though.

I might actually be able to make 8:15 tonight, but I'm not promising anything.

I was kinda interested in doing this, but I cant at 6:15 my time. Ill just be leaving work. Oh well maybe next time.
