iForce, I'm going to do everything I can to get more gaps between drivers during qualifying. For the next race I will make it clear that drivers can only leave the pits when I release them via the chat box. I hadn't tested what we did last night so I was kinda shooting from the hip and I didn't do a good job of releasing people. Now that everybody has a feel for what we'll be doing I hope it will go smoother next time. Unfortunately, my live timing monitor rarely works so I usually have no way of knowing who's fastest/slowest and wouldn't have a way to group the drivers as you proposed. It would also be very time consuming to sit there and calculate everybody's times and figure out who goes in what group. I want qualifying to be quick and simple, and other than a couple traffic issues it was, so I think we're on the right track.
If your timing doesnt work for whatever reason than the host of the room needs to be different. It would probably be best if the host wasnt even in the race. That would make the room easier to run,and to kick the idiots who show up in the wrong car etc.

Those traffic issues 🤬:banghead:

I'm probably flame baitin here, but I like the traffic issues :P It's frustrating, but so is lap traffic in race. It's a part of "the experience." I'm not saying we shouldn't police it or try to keep people spread out, but if I'm catching someone and we're both on "hot" laps and he spins, that's part of life. Now having someone monitoring the track like a crew chief would could be pretty cool :)

I agree. But finding somebody who wants to host a room but not race is probably not very easy. It was also kind of hard for me to tell who was supposed to be there and who wasn't. I recognize a lot of your PSN ID's by now, but there's so many of us I'm now always sure.

I'd kinda like to do what other leagues do, put "Capp Cup" in your "greeting" so when you enter the room I know you're supposed to be there. But I noticed some people already had 3 or 4 leagues listed in their greeting so there might not be room for them to add another one. I do keep a list of the registrants on hand so I can double-check whenever somebody enters the room.

FWIW, real world racers do encounter occasional traffic during qualifying. But I think once we get everyone "trained" to leave a good gap between them and other drivers we should be in pretty good shape. I'll kinda try to harp on that point so everybody remembers.

Seems like yesterday that Jarno Trullihorrible used to complain every other race about how some traffic got in his way during his hot lap and ruined his qualifying session.

I agree that it is annoying but I think it will get better with practice and time.

Well since your connection seems better than maybe the private lounge would be a better option. If you wanted the room in the open lounge i could host Friday night since i have no plans to ever return to Tsukuba to race again. You or Mule or whoever wants the room later can enter the room in 2nd name slot (if my connection is good enough). As long as all the cars are in the pits T&S should show their best lap in practice.I would record the times-then set the groups-reset the room-send them out on track fastest to slowest in each group-rinse repeat until the field is set-then i would leave the room and the 2nd guy on the list would become host and the race begins. If its in a lounge then i can enter at any time and just watch and leave when the job is done.

I DO I DO!!!! :D :P

Good answer!

Depends on who she is...

Better answer!

Luckily the pictures are only of some java mobiles so no surprises here:

Very nice Pics.

Twitch aka my cappy, The big gold rims Still look race. Wooot so glad no ones called them DONK or etc. They'd been gone. My kids suggested it and to my surprise it really had a good look. IMHO.

I think the gold wheels look very good with the green body color. Reminds me of the early Lotus cars but with gold rather than their traditional yellow.

👍 This is my opinion. We'll try our best to make sure everybody gets a fair shot at a clean qualifying run but as long as there's more than 1 car on the track there will always be the chance of somebody else having a mis-hap and interfering with your lap.

Keep in mind though, this was our first time doing it and I didn't do a very good job of releasing people from the pits in a staggered fashion. On top of that it's a very small track and that made things a lot worse. At Deep Forest (REVERSE!) it will be much easier to open a big gap early and stay clear of other drivers. Each session will be longer than 6 minutes too since it's a longer track. I want everyone to have time for 4 good flying laps, plus their warm up lap. And, I will make sure to release everyone better.

My recommendation is that whenever a driver leaves the pits to begin their qualifying session, use the first half of the warm up lap to create a good gap between you and the driver in front of/behind you. The warm up lap doesn't count so take your time and spread out. Half way through the warm up lap start speeding up so you can be at full speed when you start your first hot lap. On the bigger tracks that should be easier to do. :)

Brosif, 👍 on the pics!! Thanks for posting.

Re Qualifying, I will slow down on purpose at the last corner or the next-to-last corner if I see another car in front me. I usually have little or no issues with traffic.

I would recommend to the fast guys to just take it easy and slow down, so you won't have issues with traffic...

Nice pics. I hope to be there Friday night. Q starts at 10 ET and race starts 10:30 ET, right?

 I hope you're joking, but if not that's still hilarious.
I qualified 4th and that lap time came on my first flying lap. The second one I went into the grass on the last turn exit so it ruined my next lap as well. I didn't run into traffic until lap 5 and that was just fatrabbit who very nicely lifted on the back straight when he saw me coming.

I think that's the plan. Mule is hosting the Friday night races so the schedule's up to him but he said 10 worked for him.

SohnVon, I am joking. I agree with Brandon that Q is trickier at Tsukuba because of the short track. Hopefully it should be better at Deep Mountain.

Whew, you should use more smileys :P  :dunce: :dopey:

More evidence that the internet needs a sarcasm font.

I had to go to page 2 to find this thread this morning, first time that's happened!! I guess everybody needs a fresh cup of cappuccino to wake them back up! lol

Is Friday's race at Deep Forest and then Saturday's at the Nurburgring?

I should be able to join you on saturday, but if I find myself awake at 2am tomorrow then I'll at least watch, perhaps join you all!

Friday and Saturday will both be at the much-hated Tsukuba. Each night has its own points standings and runs the same track for the week. Next week all three nights will be at Deep Forest - Reverse, the following week will be at Nurburgring GP/D.

Thanks Brandon - Guess I didn't read the first post properly. :dunce:

I don't understand why people hate Tsukuba. I rather enjoy racing there and find it to be one of my favorite courses for small-bore competition. The track demands precision and even small mistakes can translate into a trailing car losing the draft of the lead car. This is one of my favorite things about Tsukuba as it rewards the consistent driver and reduces the effect of GT5's unrealistic draft. The track allows for different lines for cars/drivers with different styles which still result in similar lap times. The kerbs are also pretty nasty and can unsettle the car and cause oversteer if you aren't cautious.

Tsukuba is a course that is easy learn and posting competitive lap times can be achieved pretty quickly. But to really master the track and run at the front you have to learn the track's nuances and be able to run error free lap after lap. Tsukuba challenges me and has helped me to not only develop and improve my driving skills but to also hone my racecraft and become a winning driver. And in the end, isn't that why we are all here?

The reason we all hate it is because we started this thing up before the PSN outage, and we all spent the next 4 weeks practicing on Tsukuba to get ready for the season. So, we're ready to be done with it and move on to something new and fresh. :)

Yup, this :) But I do agree with you brosif that Tsukuba is generally hated. It really does force you to be flawless every lap because the track is so short most everyone online knows it pretty well. For me it provides the most realistic racing because it is truly a mind game. When you have a group of highly skilled drivers, the ONLY way someone can win on tsukuba is through the other people making ridiculously small errors. That way there's alot of pressure on everyone to perform (if they want to take the win, which I'm sure everyone does :) )
