Car List Criticism - Unwanted Premiums

Ok, first, I don't have any disapointment with the car list but i am not a car nut like the OP said we all are. I love driving and racing cars but know close to nothing about them. I barely know anything about my Honda Fit besides it get around 40 to the gallon and chicks dig it:drool:

Now my opinion. The car list and premium list are the way they are because Kazunori loves cars, all cars. And maybe sometimes the quirkier it is the more he wants to include it. But that is what makes GT great in my opinion, the variety. I'm not bothered by that because I don't have any makes or models I'm dying to drive. That and I drive from the hood cam so cockpit view is only useful for me when watching replays. I hope my opinion is understood and not seen as trolling the thread.

I'm not precisely liking the direction this thread is taking, especially given the comment of Slipztrem. I do not intend to make a wish list. All I want to do is bring into the spotlight some points where the car list can be improved so hopefully PD receives some constructive criticism.

A list of cars you would rather see as Premium compared to some that currently enjoy that status is a wishlist ;). Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing your intentions; we all have our own personal preferences when it comes to the car lineup. I'd be lying if I was said I was satisfied with it, for example. But stating the goal is to "spotlight some points where the car list can be improved" is always going to lead down this same path; it's not about "improving" the list, it's simply about aligning it with your personal tastes. It's debatable on if the suggestions are improvements, and thus, it just becomes a "I want x car" thread...

I don't want this thread to mess up because I'd like to open others later to discuss the other points I said in my first post. Mods, my intention never was cluttering the forums with another wish list or fanboy war, I just want some productive discussion 👍.

I know you mean well, CB, I imagine all of us do think something along these lines on a regular basis. Which is what I meant to touch on; this has definitely come before :).

I would want ALL cars in GT6 to be Premium, doesn't matter what they are, or how slow they drive.

And NO car in GT5 should EVER be stripped from it's Premium status.

I personally think that 2/3 of these interesting slow cars should stay on the list of Premiums.

Well, I don't drive from the cocpit view anyways, so a car being premium/standard doesn't bother me much. The quality/realistic feel of the drive is more important. I'm a car freak and I enjoy having a lot of variety and a lot of weird cars too. The fact that there is no use (read = fun races) for the majority of them buggers me a lot more but that's a different rant I guess.

I have to agree though, Prius premium / Veyron standard? This game feels a bit too much like developed in an ivory tower, really.

First post here btw, Wohoo! :)

I feel like they strived really hard for perfection and thats why alot of things are the way they are, goals set too high will usually always result in a compromise somewhere. I recognize the meticulous detail put into the premiums, and I personally enjoy the variety in cars very much(me and my mother raced in Schwimmwagons, she won because i crashed trying to ram her off the road).

Because they seem to have made it clear that development of the game will not be ending anytime soon, I would not be surprised to see alot of new premiums added over the next years so I am not sweating it, and that has me kindof pumped to see how the game will evolve.

Forgive my off slight topicness.

The sheer number and variety of cars in GT has always been one of it's biggest draws. But just as significant is the range of performance levels that they cover, from tiny classics with a few horsepower, up to group C racers and F1 cars.

I read a comment in Edge once, that highlited the way the low power cars in GT somehow help to validate all of the faster more exciting cars. In may racing games, the slowest car is often a hot hatch, or even something like an M3, and that makes what is normally a fast car feel less interesting. In GT games, the number and variety creates a broad space for any given car to fit into, so that those moderate cars feel as desirable as they might in real life.

This performance range seems to have been generally applied to the premiums in isolation from the standards, so we see a range from Copens up to 787s etc. I don't think the choices are perfect, and they don't line up with my tastes in a lot of cases, but there's enough there to keep me happy. And personally I feel it was the right decision to feature a range of performance levels within the premium sub-section.

And then there's the fact that the cars can be tuned. The idea of taking a lowly hatch and tuning the nuts off it is another big part of the GT series, and here the high power cars serve as a target to validate the perfomance gains made by tuning your lowly hatch.

I do feel though that the whole premium/standard split is a big compromise, and I'd obviously prefer a complete 1000-car set of shiny premiums. But putting that aside, I've been enjoying the cars that PD have managed to cobble together so far.

Hello GTP'ers.

Given that this is a hot topic, I do this only with the intentio of some constructive and sane criticism (Trolls, go away.) I'd like to discuss this topics in order so we can hopefully give PD some interesting feedback regarding what players want in the car list. We're car nuts after all. We didn't bought this game for grinding, leveling, being punted by robotic AIs, or watching glorified replays called B-Spec, we bought it for the cars.

So, I'd like to kick the ball rolling with the last item on the list: Unwanted premiums. This is to me an important topic given the fact that Premium models are the ones that take the most of PD's resources, are the most contemporary and "hot" cars, and are the ones delivered in their full cockpit-enabled, rim-changing, bodykit-equipping, race-modifiable glory. You would expect the best cars to get the best treatment, and on most it is, but there are some that in my opinion fail to deliver.

Take stuff like the Daihatsu Copen. The Tesla Roadster. The Autozam. The Prius. The i-Miev. And so on.

Wouldn't you prefer having stuff like the Buggatti Veyron (Absolutely essential), the Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo (Re-modelling a GT4 favourite), the Volkswagen Scirocco (Not everything has to be a monster car), or the E30 M3?

With the time dedicated to model a Premium car, why giving us boring (to the majority of the population at least) K-Cars and econo-crap-boxes? Why not old favourites and more recently released sports cars? Why just 3 LMP racers?

Discuss at will, but please be respectful. This is a sensitive topic and I don't want it to degenerate into a stupid troll-war.

Cheers!.

This is quintessentially a wish list. "unwanted premiums"? Why unwanted? To me it's the more the better! Personally I liked the I-car as much as the Ferrari 430 - did you ever watch Top Gear's "the best drives in this world"? Both cars were included in the documentary. Just because it's small it's slow doesn't mean that they don't have their significance in the automotive history. If it were otherwise, I'm sure you'll be satisfied if only the F10 and X1 were included in the game.

Personally I'd have liked to have seen things like premium peugot 207+307s and the two varieties of mini cooper replaced by premium RUFs. As a car enthusiast interested in sim driving iconic cars, there are plenty more iconic standards than premiums.

Who will care about the 207 in 10 years time? The 205 is the 2 series car that stands the test of time.

I would really like to see less standard threads and more premium threads in this forum.

We all know not everyone likes the car list. This can be put in a coupe of dozen threads that all say the same thing in a different way, or by now we could just accept that the car list is the way it is, vote in the feedback forum and hope for the best/the worst.

I would. I like the 207. Many people like to see their car in a game, so if they drive/drove a Peugeot 207 and it was in the game they would care. Someone, somewhere will care, maybe you should think about that. I bet you'd love your own car to be in this game, Premium even, whatever it was.

Not a Toyota Prius :) And while a VW bus is very cool in real life, it's not desirable in a racing game. I have never been more bored than I was in the TG challenge

Lucky then this isn't a racing game. It's a driving simulator. It even says so on the game cover. Go take a look.

A driving game and its vehicle list will mean something different from one person to the next. I've been driving cars for 13 years and because I work in the motor industry, I've been fortunate to drive quite a few different models over that time so 'driving' a Ferrari 458 is a good experience to me. But when I was 14, a friends dad had a Citreon BX GTI, and when I was driven around in it I thought it was the best thing ever.

Now I have a son who is 12 he was elated when he got the Volvo C30 (I know!!), and because I've had one in the past, he can relate his real life experiences to a computer game which means something to him. Not an Bugatti or Lambo.

Kaz and co. must have had to take this into consideration the world over, so a premium Prius might not be desirable to me or you, but I bet it is to someone out there.

Personally, I think they should all be stripped of premium status.

Doing so would accomplish two things. First, it would allow that disk space to be better used on more important racing aspects rather than eye candy. Second, it would put a crushing end to the most annoying of the elitists - the premium only elitists.

While as a Mustang fanboy I sort of agree with this but you might be taking it a bit far. Trust me I love Mustangs, I have one but I would be happy with just adding 2 or 3 different ones to the game. You gotta remember that there are a lot of other under-represented cars as well. But I would love a mustang you could RM, I mean you can do 2 camaros why not 1 stang?

Also does every NASCAR count as an individual premium? Even as a NASCAR fan that would poss me off.

The Mustang is so iconic here in the US in all forms of racing and daily life that I find it amazing how little representation it has received in GT5, especially considering how many generations, different trim models, aftermarket tuner versions, and special editions there have been over the last 47 years.

Is there a single Mustang between the 1971 Mach I (a poor enough choice) and the 2000 Cobra R in the game?

The 2010 Shelby GT500 would have been fantastic. We know they have the licenses for Ford, SVT, and Shelby, so I have no idea how they missed on this one.

I would have been happy to get standard ports of the 96-98 Cobra and the 99-04 GT that were in GT2. The Saleen SR widebody from GT2 would have also made for a great race mod for the 96-98 Mustang, or standalone car.

Adding an updated 03-04 Mach I would have made having the 71 model a little more enjoyable.

The 03-04 Terminator Cobra is another glaring omission.

Any Saleen, Roush, Steeda, or Shelby versions would have been a thrill to drive. They couldn't have all been too hard to add, building on the 2000 Cobra R's base code. They certainly made enough other "similar" cars.

You contradict yourself, surely.

Theres way too many Super GT and Nascar premiums. Same car, different livery.

VW kuebelwagen, schwimmwagen, samba bus
3 of the best premiums in my opinion. There great for taking a relaxing drive on the 'Ring. Tuned of course. :)

There are basically only 3 NASCAR models, and different textures to count.

I actually like the i-Mev and Prius. They are important cars from a technological and historical perspective. I find it interesting to see how they drive. If just for one lap. Like the Prius having a CVT and its computer balancing the motor/engine to the battery charge. It's unique. Gives variety and contrast.

And I like beating my newbie friends with my Racing Prius :)

And also, I have some friends who needed some cars to start on as they had never played racing games before. They tried the 458 and crashed constantly. Put them in a slow Prius, and it gave them some time to learn how to control cars in the game/simulator. Step up to a Civic Si, then Lotus, etc. It actually worked really well.

I happen to like the contrast. If we just had supercars, it'd be hard to appreciate them with no good way to compare them to awful K-Cars. And I really like cockpit view. It's more fun.

Of course, there were some glaring omissions in the Premium line. Veyron, Koenigsegg CCX, Ariel Atom (please!!!), Furai, FGT, Aston Martin DBS, CTS, Exige... And a Ford Transit van so I can try to beat Sabine Schmitz!

Absolutely agreed with the topic. Most of the premiums are really lame... There are such fantastic exciting cars out there... DTM, Ferrari race cars, Lambo race cars and much much more great cars. There is only hope for GT6 that we get an exciting car-list with ~500 premiums... I hope that standard "fail" will not happen again in GT6... I mean it´s a PS3 game and not an half PS2 remake...

There is no such thing as an unwanted premium. The only thing that matters is more premium.

I would. I like the 207. Many people like to see their car in a game, so if they drive/drove a Peugeot 207 and it was in the game they would care. Someone, somewhere will care, maybe you should think about that. I bet you'd love your own car to be in this game, Premium even, whatever it was.

I certainly wouldn't like my car in this game and neither could you, it's not fast enough and maxes out about 105 (awesome mpg though!!). I get my speed fix from kwak zx6r (and destroy people in 207s).

My point was just because you like the 207 doesn't mean it is 'iconic'. The 205 gti is an iconic car, the mk1 golf gti is, the RS cosworths are, something like the latest Focus RS will be in time. A 207 will not go down as car people look back on with great reverence. I couldn't care less if a modern hot hatch could blow away one from 15 years ago, I want cars that mean something in the car world. I think you are in the minority if the 207 becomes classic.

Given a choice of PD doing a premium of either the 207 or a Delta S4, please don't tell me you'd take the 207?

Not sure why some people would make a big deal about their car not being in a game. I mean, you drive it in real life every day.. I just wish PD prioritized adding a larger variety of premium cars. It just looks really awkward having the Nissan section having 8-10 premium cars and then other car manufacturers like Acura, Volvo, etc only having 1 or 2 cars.

This performance range seems to have been generally applied to the premiums in isolation from the standards, so we see a range from Copens up to 787s etc. I don't think the choices are perfect, and they don't line up with my tastes in a lot of cases, but there's enough there to keep me happy. A very good post, just highlighted the most important bit in my view and an aspect most people tend to forget, namely that the Premium list is the new starting point for the next GT-titles (or the future Standards ;)) and that all sorts of cars need to be included like it was in previous GT's (so it obviously will expand).
We can all debate whether certain cars were a good choice (and we can assume since some new additions are already replaced or facelifted in real life before GT5 arrived PD had planned it all differently too..) but to suggest, like some seem to do, that Premium cars need to be, well, Premium-category cars only is just ignoring what GT-games always offered (and were the first to do so, let's not forget that too, before GT all driving games consisted mostly of supercars, supercars, racecars and more supercars).
I won't pretend to like for example a Prius equally as, say the Miura, although I expected both types of cars to be offered (and to be honest the Prius is actually not bad in its own quirky and interesting way with a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution ironically, there, I said it out loud).
You can't however please those who only want high-performance cars though, some people thankfully prefer a wide and varied menu, others only want things hot and spicy.
Eclecticism isn't a widespread mindset unfortunately and will probably never catch on by the majority...

Great post Ryan. I couldnt agree more. GT2 was better as far as mustangs were concerned. I dream of an expansion or DLC that would revolve around all generations of the American muscle and American tuners like the ones you mentioned to be added to GT5. Along with some drag racing mode.

But we can only dram at this point my friend.
